Solid place serving hearty, traditional Italian food of the Emilia-Romagna region. As this was our first dinner in Ravenna I went looking for a place that didn't look too touristy and would give us a real sampling of the region and I wasn't disappointed.
This place is small and cozy, but we were seated quickly (if it then took a little while to receive menus and order some water and wine to start.) My Italian isn't that great but even so the waiter complimented me on my attempts at correct pronunciation (and he spoke good English, too, so no problems ordering). We started with the mixed antipasti meat plate, which was HUGE and very good, and also the marinated sardines. Simple yet satisfying. I had to try the stewed rabbit as it's so rare to find on menus at home and yet it's one of my favorite things to eat. The rabbit was delicately cooked in a lightly tomato-y, herb and wine sauce. Grilled steak was simple but perfectly cooked and tender. Lasagna bolognese was just as it should be: hearty with a rich meat sauce, just a touch of dry cheese. This is the meat sauce my mother learned from her Northern Italian mother-in-law! We also had a nice side of grilled vegetables and a big salad we couldn't finish.
We had no room for dessert, just some coffee and grappa. In fact my favorite thing was our server bringing out different bottles of grappa to choose from, describing each in detail. Loved it! Solid recommendation here. read more
