Gintilli is conveniently located close to the port and central business/tourist area of Cagliari…read more It's small, but fits about 8-10 tables worth of 2-4 party groups. For lunch, you can order from the regular menu or a special lunch set, which is a good value. For about 10 euros you get to choose two dishes, and get water and bread. You can also add a dessert for 3 euros more. The food is Italian/Mediterranean based, and the basil pasta I had was truly excellent. My partner got this as well, and separately we got a tofu dish and zucchini dish. We enjoyed all the food, but pasta was by far the best. Wine selection here is pretty large and can be a little high (though could be normal for the area.) Beer selection is typical of European restaurants, albeit mostly organic and some gluten free. HappyCow notes reservations are required but we walked right in and got seated without them. However, note the server was a one person show, so it could be a bit of a wait depending on when you go.

Maybe it's because I was a solo diner. Aside from that she was friendly and helpful in explaining the menu to me. I started with a yummy, unique carrot orange soup. Then, I had the fregola risottata with tomatoes. This dish was simple but very good! True comfort food in my opinion. For dessert, I had ordered the budino alla vaniglia but the waitress brought out a chocolate brownie instead. This was delicious and I enjoyed it even though it wasn't what I'd ordered. Interior decoration was sleek and modern. The food was excellent. I would return on another day for sure, hopefully the missteps in service I experienced were just a fluke.

My favorite dish was the appetizer of Prosciutto di Cinghiale, cured wild boar wrapped around a filling of smoked ricotta, served with almonds and chopped seasonal fruits (pears and plums). This went especially nicely with their homemade brown seeded bread, a nice change of pace from typical plain Italian loaves. A whole section of the menu was dedicated to stuffed baked potatoes--the Boscaiola was made with cardoncelli mushrooms, smoked ricotta, pecorino, and Grana sardo; and the Chili Purpuza was stuffed with a slightly spicy combination of purpuza sausage, tomatoes, and Grana sardo. The Maxi salad was a crunchy combination of lettuce, carrots, radicchio, fennel, caramelized onions, boiled egg, goat cheese, apple, and mixed seeds. Finally, we had two of their main dishes--the Torreta di Polenta Fritta was a "tower" made of a fried carrot/pea pancake, topped with a layer of polenta, served with a sauce made of vegetables; and the Stracotto di Manzo was cubes of stewed beef served over zucchini cream. Everything we had was flavorful and delicious, and the presentation and service were definite highlights of this restaurant!

We started with a small amuse buche Parmesan ball that had a magnificent aged, balsamic reduction underneath it. That balsamic was lick worthy! Next they brought a basket of traditional breads and also the ingredients to make bruschetta at your seat: a beautiful burrata wedge that was slightly Smokey, perfectly seasoned garden fresh tomatoes and grilled bread. This was my favorite dish of the evening. Calamari was fresh and light. Not as crispy as we get in the USA but it wasn't as highly battered. The grilled lemons were a great addition, be sure to save them for your dinner. The farro with seafood was well done. It was fishier then many enjoyed due probably to the dehydrated caviar but the grain texture and seasoning was lovely and the shellfish was soft and perfectly cooked. We also had grilled sea bass (not shown) which was fresh and flakey. The dessert made with almond milk was a nice sweet taste to end the meal. Service was spot on, including the wine service. Servers spoke some English which was very helpful. Owners speak fluent English as does the manager. If you are in the area and looking for farm to table definitely give it a try!

By far my favorite pizza in Torre Delle Stelle, Sardinia and I would go as far to say all of Italy! They have a perfect mix of traditional pizza along with creative options. Then you add the ambiance and staff, perfetto!! The grounds are absolutely stunning if you are coming by for a drink, awesome bartender and cocktail menu, or dinner. I hope you get the opportunity to enjoy this spot. I can't wait to visit next year and see what other great additions this team has to offer.
