Fun little Osteria, they have a "hot meal" and "cold meal" primarily with a few other basic options like soup. This is a great little spot if you want a simple Italian meal in Siena. Service was good and quick, I would say typical. Wait staff were pleasant and ready to help. Food - we got both the hot meal and soup which were very good and simple dishes. I got the pesto, the pasta was slightly over done but fresh and the pesto was tasty but a step down from some others I've had, again still good. The soup was a really good Tuscan bean soup that was right on the money. They had a cold cut plate that I would go for next time around which looked great. Pricing - hard to beat, 26 euro for two with wine, so very good value right off the city square. read more

Hole in the wall Italian restaurant. We had to sit outside bc inside which is really small was full. We had a plate Of antipasto. Good but not overwhelming delicious. Ragu pasta which was good and little ribbettes.( small and fatty) we order a carafe of red wine which was good and a carafe Of the white. This was one of our favorite "finds" on our trip. It's an honest-to-God Osteria, which we love. A place where the cooks only make a few things a day and you select from the house specials. The day we went they featured an amazing lentil soup and I had a wonderful pasta con calcio e pepe. (The classic Italian staple.) My wife had the carbonara and everything was fantastic, including the service and house wines. Our favorite part of this meal was how it was both fun and delicious. I recommend reservations, since it's pretty small. We went right at opening and they cordially fit us in, but had we waited an hour or so, it would have been a different story. Some locals who were waiting with us for it to open, said it was their favorite place and we sure found out why. Please give it a try and enjoy! read more

Excellent Lunch, not many choices, you are essentially eating what Luca is cooking that day, but everything is delicious and fresh. The service was a little chaotic but good. The ambience is rustic, nothing fancy. Definitely worth the a try. read more

Small place a little off the main path, but great food! No menu. When we went, they had a meat and cheese platter and 2 different pastas and 3 sauces. We opted for the home-made fat spaghetti as opposed to the dried wide flat pasta (sorry not noodle fluent). The sauces of the night were tomato and garlic, truffles and butter, and sausage and mushroom. Between the 4 of us, we had them all, 2 sausage. All were excellent. Price wise, very reasonable. 60Euros which included sparkling water and 1 liter of the house chianti. read more

Came here for an early lunch. No menu. Basically we pointed out what we wanted and they put it on our plates. Total cost for 2: 17 Euros. Pretty good value. As for the food, we both thought the pasta salad was nothing special. The salami and prosciutto were quite good. The third meat was ok. The cheese was great, and my wife was happy with her anchovies. Overall a good spot to get an affordable lunch. read more

The experience of this place was really fun--it's a tiny hole in the wall, seems to be frequented by locals (loud locals), and there's not much on the menu, so they just bring you stuff to share for the appetizer and then there are three pasta dishes to choose from. Prices are very low. Sadly, though, we tried literally everything on the menu and really weren't too delighted by it. It was one of the weakest meals we ate in Italy. I would recommend anyone to try this place, just order anything they have and order as much as you can handle because it ain't going to break your bank. We just finished our meal there. It has to be one of the most satisfying ones we ever had. The two guys running this little place is no nonsense and very friendly. They don't have a menu so we asked them to fix two pastas and and a mixed cold plate. The cold plate tasted so good we asked the owner to fix us another one. For a little miscommunication we didn't get the second pasta but we were very full at the end of the 2nd mixed plate anyway. In the end, the two big plates, a pasta, and a glass of wine cost us a grand total of 30 euros. I would go there again but we are leaving for Rome tomorrow. Small, inconspicuous and rustic spot in a sidestreet. Nice waiters and maybe the best pasta I ever had. Nothing fancy or unusual but really delicious and homemade. Antipasti plate was also really good. Come and eat here. read more

This place is a gem. It is not the easiest to find, but the food makes it worthwhile. This is a very tiny restaurant with maybe seating for 30 people including both inside and outside. Due to this, I wouldn't recommend bringing a large group of people to eat here and I suggest getting here early during busy season if you want to get a seat. The staff does not speak very good English, but the choices are simple. I highly recommend learning some simple food phrases or using an app like google translate to look at what you are ordering. We had almost no problem ordering food and we don't speak very much Italian. We sat outside on our visit and the menu was handwritten on the wall. They had Baccala (an Italian fish) with fresh vegetables, spaghetti with ragu sauce, or a mushroom (funghi) soup as well as an appetizer platter with selected meats and cheeses. We had the Baccala and spaghetti. They were both very delicious and filing. We shared a 0.5 L carafe of house wine and a bottle of water. I can't complain about any of it. I can't remember if this place charges a coperta (cover charge) of 2 euro per person. I would just ask before sitting down to eat. read more

found this through Rick Steves. it's on a small side street off the main path in Siena. it's not a fancy space and as promised, the menu is minimal. it's simply based on what they are cooking fresh that day. i liked that. my mom did not. she wanted more variety. i had the pici pasta with a tomato gorgonzola sauce. i never would have thought to put those together and it was really tasty. i ate every bite! we sat indoors at a large table that we ended up sharing with another group of diners. the server was really friendly and helpful, the food was great and the price was right. i couldn't have asked for more apart from a toilet that doesn't open up right onto the people sitting at the end of the communal table :-) read more

So read great reviews so we decided to try this place. The server was kinda off putting. Multiple times asking who we were and whether we had reservations. He showed multiple people without reservations away and let some with reservations like us stay. Not that in the hour we were there from 7 to 8 pm there were ANY guests with reservations that walked up. Bizarre. The cold platter was okay. The bread was hard and dry. The pasta was NOT home made. It was packaged pasta. That right there was a non no for us. It tasted heavily of beef broth despite the ask for pomodoro. Anyways, for the 70$ for 4 none of us was impressed with the experience. Reasonable price, amazing taste of Italy. I was with my mom and we ordered Gorgonzola cheese/balsamic vinegar risotto and Carbonara. It was best Carbonara I've ever had. I ordered house wine and it was ok taste. My mom and I enjoyed every bite of all dishes we ordered and made a great memories. Home meal cooked food, not a fancy place, seating outside. The owner had a table - a couple of tables apart from us- and was constantly smoking, which was really annoying and not appropriate as restaurant owner. The waitress spoke zero English and I didn't speak any Italian so it was difficult to communicate. I figured being in Siena, they can cater to English speaking tourist. Well, not in my visit. Well, this spot is on all the lists. So, it seemed unavoidable and we decided to give it a try. Osteria in general is quite a nice genre. Simple food, done well, relatively low prices. Despite many positive reviews we were not lucky there. The food is just not tasty. Avoid any primi and secondi. The best choice is just something ready like a nice tagliere with meat and cheeses. The pasta/pici for 10 euros was heavy, overcooked, lacking taste. The meat was so burnt that you can hardly understand what exactly you were eating. 12 euros was not the price for 3 pieces you were given. It looks like the place was really a spot of local attention for many years under a previous owner who served just drinks and some salami/cheeses. But with current owners the charm may not last long. Unfortunately after this dining experience my husband felt seviriously bad all night through and all day after. A coincidence? Can be, can be not. read more

The food is wonderful here, I go every time I am visiting Siena and will continue to recommend it to everyone I know. It feels like proper home cooked food at a reasonable price. Osteria il Grattacielo is the Skyscraper which is made funny by its location, but is well worth a visit. You wonder in and get a plate by asking for what you would like on the counter, and they will bring you wine to your table. You can sit and eat what I would arguably consider the best lunch in Siena. I like that on each occasion I have eaten here I have been surrounded by both locals and tourists and that it really feels chilled out. read more

Can't recommend you stop here. Penne with Ragu sauce was mediocre at best. My wife had the only other pasta option for the the day, which was a widE noodle with an also not so good pesto sauce. This place is not that great, they told me it would be 8 euros for the food. I had ordered cheddar soup as well. I never got the soup and when I went to pay, the guy took my 10 euros...I asked why you told me it was 8.... He charged me extra 2 euros for the free water and bread. We went here based on our hotels recommendation. There is no menu so we went with the only pasta dish offered that day. The pasta came with very little sauce and I think I've had better pasta from a can. Couldn't even finish it. Look for any other options than this restaurant. This was our first meal in Siena. Short 5 minute walk from the bus station (Piazza Antonio Gramsci). For lunch, they have an assortment of prepared foods - various salads, vegetable items, meats and cheese. You pick and chose what you want and how much you want and they assemble the plate(s) for you. The food was amazing! I think I had at least 7 or 8 items on two plates.
