I had one of the best dirty martinis to start things off. The bartender was so knowledgeable and helpful, made great recommendations with the menu. Slow service & unapologetic staff. Skip it. Was seated 15+ minutes after our reservation, even though there seemed to be adequate staffing and many open tables. Food was good, bartender (ahead of being seated) was great, atmosphere was good. Service was SLOW and inattentive. There were multiple times where we waited 10-20 minutes with no food or drink in front of us. No one ever followed up for additional drink orders outside of the first. After about 1 hour & 10 minutes, I flagged down a bus boy and asked them to find out why we still hadn't gotten the main course. They said we were behind a big table and it should be about 5 minutes. 5 minutes later I flagged down my waiter and asked what was up. I was told that it was my fault for asking for our focaccia, appetizer, and main course to be spaced out. (the only options that were given were to have all items at once or spaced out) At this point I asked for a manager. The manager (owner) came out hot, acting like the soup guy from Seinfeld. He had the waiter repeat what she told to me earlier and when I tried to interject, told me to stop and listen to her. I reiterated that at this point we'd been there for over an hour after being seated (late) (also at this point it was almost and hour and a half since being seated) and that it was unacceptable to still not have been served the main course, whatever their excuse was. There were at least 3 servers, and not over 20 tables in the entire place. Instead of offering anything at all to make up for it, acknowledging any of the issues, or least of all apologizing, the owner told the waiter to "get us out of here". The waiter wound up bringing the entree in a bag and the check (including the entree) to us. I had to demand I wasn't, at all, paying for the entree in order to get it removed from the bill. (I left it on the table) The bottom line is that, the entree could've been the tastiest dish in the world, but this place doesn't deserve your patronage. read more

For mains, the veal chop was outstanding....tender, expertly cooked, and paired beautifully with roasted vegetables and potatoes. The house gnocchi was everything you want it to be: pillowy, comforting, and deeply flavorful, clearly made with care and skill. Dessert was beyond indulgent and the perfect ending to an already incredible meal. Wow! We had three dishes and split them all. Our server Sawyer made super recommendations and was fantastic in general. Risotto balls to start were unique and delicious. I went back twice this past weekend to explore more of the menu. They have a small farm/massive garden behind the restaurant where they grow their most of the ingredients they use, and they source everything else locally. Over the weekend, we ordered their housemade focaccia, meatballs, Bruschetta with burrata and prosciutto, Mare e Lago with fried calamari, whitefish nuggets, and zucchini, Branzino, and a Porcini mushroom-rubbed Filet. Every bite was delicious, and we felt the Bruschetta was our favorite, but the Branzino and Filet were close runners-up! Saturday night, we received great service from Carmen, and Sunday night, we received great service from Olivia! Osteria Tre Tassi is a place I make a point to visit whenever I'm in Door County, and I highly recommend you do the same! They take reservations and book up quickly, so try to plan ahead. read more

We came to Osteria Tre Tassi for my birthday as a party of five. We had a reservation and were sat immediately. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered appetizers, the plain focaccia and the crostinis. Both were extremely good! We all got pasta and thought it was delicious! They were out of mussels and clams for the seafood based pasta, but did offer to sub in shrimp and calamari, which our group accepted and really enjoyed. The food was really good, but I will say it was a slower dining experience, with us being there for 2 hours. We waited for a while for each course, including drinks, but our waters were refilled often which I always appreciate. They also never brought our salad out, but were obviously happy to take that off the bill when we pointed it out. They don't do anything for birthdays (candle, dessert, etc.) which is also fine and I can always go without the singing! It was overall a good experience. The food was delicious and the staff was friendly, I think it just could've moved more quickly because the restaurant was less than half full. I would recommend giving it a try and definitely would order pasta! read more

Don't let the 1 star reviews deter you from coming here. We went on a Thursday night, did not have a reservation, and were able to get seated after about a 15 min wait at the bar. We chatted with the bartender while he steadily made some pretty fun cocktails. We sat in the covered patio area and our server was excellent. We ordered four different starters - bread, meatballs, deep fried risotto and burrata. All were great. We split the gnocchi and pesto pasta and both were excellent. I love homemade pasta. My friend got the whitefish and she said that was really good too. They do take reservations so if you are planning to come during a busy time I would call and make them. A cold, snowy night made for a perfect evening dining out at Osteria Tre Tassi in Ellison Bay's historic Griffin Inn. Our evening there was sheer perfection on all fronts. Our wines were delicious, and a specialty Italian crostini with a name I can't pronounce was absolutely fabulous and a great start to the evening. I'm a picky eater and I normally don't eat food that is unfamiliar to me, but I took a gamble with this appetizer and was greatly rewarded. A standard small romaine salad, actually so well sized that I couldn't finish it, served as the introduction to my pepper and sauce rubbed filet, which was done to perfection. I love a good steak, and this was one of the best that I have ever eaten. My wife selected the beef cheeks for her entre, and they were deliciously tender, tasty, and smothered in gravy. Later she ordered an interesting Pistachio cake for dessert. I selected the Italian cannelloni, which was very well done with nice touches, but not far from most cannellonis that I have eaten over the years. The Griffin Inn just exudes atmosphere and, happily, we were seated next to the roaring fire in the dining room. Life doesn't get any better than this! Our thanks to Shannon, our wonderful waitress, Joey, the host, Robyn, the fabulous chef, and Dustin, the bartender. We have dined here in the Griffin Inn in all of its fine dining restaurants over the years, and Tre Tassi is a worthy successor to all of them. We came toward the end of the evening, in February, so it was just us and several tables of locals. The place is beautiful, the lighting is relaxing, great service. We started with the burrata and the crostini, then moved on to the octopus special and the gnocchi with fennel sausage. The octopus was cooked perfectly, and do yourselves a favor-- add the homemade fennel sausage to whatever you can, because it is beautifully done. We finished with the flourless chocolate cake. We dined on a Tuesday evening--just the four of us--and felt so welcome from the moment we arrived. The host greeted us warmly, and our server, Peter, was attentive and made us feel right at home. We had an amazing dinner experience. We Enjoyed the bruschetta which was a delicious meal almost unto itself as an appetizer. We then Enjoyed two of the nights specials. First a pasta w eggplant, fresh tomatoes and white Fish that was at the same time light and rich. We had to stop ourselves from licking the plate. I so badly wanted to enjoy this restaurant. I'm first generation Italian, watched the You Tube video on the chef's story, and was hoping to have found a 'gem' in Door County. As others have mentioned, service was not good: Waited 20 minutes for water, 30 minutes to order drinks, wrong wine delivered to the table. Long dinner with below average service. In terms of food, Supli was very good, not great. Salad had no arugula (as stated) but loads of salt and several wilted pieces. The pasta was very good; however, overpowered by the salt in the sauces. The setting is beautiful, the chef seems passionate, but our experience was mediocre. I'm hoping that it was just an off night. If not, it will be hard for this place to remain open. read more

For starters we had meatballs which are light and delicious, calamari cooked perfectly and a special of the night bruschetta- delish. Salads all were excellent and we tried all between us. The lemon dressing on the tender kale salad was a flavor punch. I would eat it every day. Priemi- spicy pasta and gnocchi were stand outs. Segundo- steaks, branzino, beef cheeks, and parpardelle were our favorites. Dessert we had cannoli, lemon cake, tiramisu, and flourless chocolate cake. Everyone had a favorite- all were winners. To start, the craft drinks and the bartenders were awesome. Very informative and engaging even when busy. Unfortunately, our positive experience ends there! We were sat in a very dark small room with one other table. Our waitstaff pretty much forgot about us in there. We ordered an appetizer with our wine, the wine came out eventually, the food did not. When, we asked our waitstaff about our food, the staff brought out the wrong appetizer an hour later. No apology. When, the prosciutto bruschetta finally came out, it was tasty. I wish I could say the same about our main courses. First, one at our table ordered the Lobster pasta, it was COLD and fishy tasting. It was so bad it had to be sent back. The bolognese was tasty and hot. The filet of beef was also tasty but lukewarm. The pasta is NOT served with bread, so when we got the pasta we asked for bread from the staff, which was working in the kitchen. She replied I'll get your sever and ask her. Well, they must've heard me say forget about it because by the time we see them we'll be done! The kitchen staff brought out the bread right away then. The bread was light and very good. Unfortunately, despite some positives, I would definitely NOT recommend! To start, when we go out to restaurants we look at 3 things. The Atmosphere, the Service and the Food. Here is our review of Osteria Tre Tassi: We had a 7:00 reservation and arrived 2 minutes early. The host said our table would be ready soon and asked us to wait in the bar. From the bar, you can see directly into the dining room and we saw many open tables, including the first 3 on the right as you enter. We were approached by a waiter who asked if we wanted to order drinks, but we said "no" because we were expecting to be seated shortly. However, we stood there for a good 5 minutes before the host came back and took us to a small 2 top directly next to a table of 3. This is the kind of set up where we had about 15 inches between tables, so the table next to us stopped their conversation and had to go into whisper mode. First, service. Our waiter was nice and attentive. However, he never smiled and was not engaging - you know, asking questions, being conversational. We could compare that to the waiter at the table next to us who was very outgoing and friendly. However, due to the tables being so close to each other, he kept scooting between the tables to pour water and serve food, so we got to know his backside really well by end of the meal. I can never understand why restaurants seat people right next to occupied tables while there are open tables that don't have other diners next to them. Our waiter took our drink order and when he came back and served them he told us about the menu. He started by telling us that the special ravioli of the night was already sold out, along with the bruschetta, Ceasar salad, and chicken. If we had a later reservation perhaps that would be understandable, but we were a prime time 7:00 and to be sold out of the feature of the evening, along with the Ceasar salad, bruschetta and chicken is just poor food management. We defaulted to the focaccia for an appetizer which was ordinary and ordered a lobster pasta and short rib rigatoni for entres. The rigatoni was good and pasta cooked al dante. However, the lobster pasta immediately tasted like spoiled fish. Now there is "good" seafood flavor, such as the saline deliciousness of a fresh oyster, but this was the "bad" seafood flavor of something that had gone bad. I had my wife try a bite and she agreed that it was not good. The waiter came over and asked how we were liking our food and I explained that my entre was not good, and he politely asked if I wanted another of that one or different entre. I ordered a potato ball pasta in truffle mushroom sauce and it came fairly quickly, which was nice. This dish was just okay. Unlike a good Gnocchi, these were marble sized balls of potato pasta and were really rather mucky. I ate half of the dish and didn't bother to take the rest home. So far, the atmosphere was not good because we were seated so close to another table and had to look at the neighboring waiter's butt all night. Our service was good, professional, but the one thing I look for is "did the service enhance our experience?", and the answer here is unfortunately "no". Some people are meant to be customer facing and others, while competent, are not. So it was with us. The food was not good and the fact that there were sold out of so many items, including standards such as the Caesar salad, was a real disappointment. But the real reason I give this restaurant a 1 star rating came as we were leaving. From our table we could see into a room where the wait staff gathered. The host and our waiter had a conversation, and we could see them looking at us. The host came out and started to come to our table, but stopped and walked away without talking to us. No biggie. But after we paid our bill and were leaving, he gave us a parting sarcastic shot of "hope you enjoyed your meal" as the door was closing behind us. He knew we didn't, and we felt by the tone in his voice that this was a snarky jab. It's one thing to have some things not go well at a restaurant. It's another to leave feeling badly. There is another reviewer who posted an email exchange with the owner after a bad experience. I suggest you find and read that and my sense is that this attitude comes from the top. We will never go back and hope that this review is helpful to other potential diners. There are so many wonderful restaurants in Door County - I would focus on those. read more

Sad experience....we had 5pm reservations (when they open) we arrived at 4.50. We saw cars and people at the door, but no spots available so we parked in their other lot. No side walk or walking path to the door, my wife stepped in mud and ruined. Her shoes, then we find out we are at the wrong door. WHY DONT THEY HAVE SIGNS ON WHERE TO PARK AND WHICH DOOR TO UISE??? We when sat down, we ordered right away. Then people that arrived 10 minutes after us which sat near us, got their food and were done eating before ours arrived. With their opening in the former Wickman House, this restaurant had big shoes to fill. The good news is that the shoe fits perfectly!! We have visited three times this summer and food, service (shoutout to Mary!) and ambiance have been superlative. We have ordered diversely from the menu and have never been disappointed. UNDERCOOKED PASTA, TASTELESS CHICKEN, BWAN SOUP THAT IS NOT SOUP, MEATBALLS MADE MOSTLY OF FILLER, ATROCIOUS SERVICE--THIS IS NOT WICKMAN HOUSE; DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY! We were regulars at Wickman House, which was superb. We mangled a reservation at Osteria Tre Tassi to celebrate our anniversary. We were seated at a small table in the bar next to the bathrooms It was Sunday at 7PM, with many open tables in the dining room. We asked to be seated in the dinner room and were shown to a double table next to the fireplace, the same table we had sat at two days before Wickman House closed. Our waiter came to us and asked, "Would you care to start with champagne?" We had just been talking about the need for a champagne toast,so we were happy to learn that they had champagne, and said yes. We asked which kind and which label, when the waiter responded quickly "It's Italian, Prosecco, so you know it's going to be fantastic." He was gone before we could object, (does he not know the difference between Champagne and Prosecco?) returning with two chilled glasses of Prosecco in red wine glasses. It was young and tart and distinctly flat. We ordered the meatballs for appetizers, along with the Tuscan bean soup and a green salad. The soup was not soup at all, it was simply white beans coated red. This was supposed to be ZUPPE (soup) Fagioli alla Toscano, but we received only Fagioli Alla Foscano. which is a plate of cooked beans. My wife took a bite and asked me to take a taste. Other than those two spoonfuls, we left the rest. When the waiter picked up our dishes we told him that the soup was not soup. He said nothing as he took away the dishes. The meatballs , Polpette Alla Napoletana, which were supposed to be veal and pork, was filled with breadline stuffing. We ordered two glasses of red wine.to go with our entres My wife ordered pasta, homemade MEZZE MANICHE, and I ordered the roast chicken. Tge pasta came under-cooked. It was tough to chew. Getting pasta al dente isn't difficult. It requires only that the cook watch the clock. Sampling during cooking also is a guide to whether the pasta is ready. The cook evidently didn't follow this simple instruction. We left more than half of the pasta. I divided the chicken with my wife. The chicken came without any discernible seasoning, except salt. It was tasteless. When our waiter arrived back, we said the pasta was under-cooked, and again he said nothing. He asked if we wanted desert, I handed him the credit card, saying to just get us the bill. He returned quickly. Nothing had been renewed from the bill, and he was as speechless as before. He vanished. The co-owner and executive chef of this rest is Robin Brown. He has good intentions, to mimic close Wickman House's commitment to freshness of ingredients and makes bg meals from scratch, such as making his own pasta. But before he can have uniformly the highest quality, he needs to have uniformity in his process. We were customers on Sunday evening. May d that's a day when he has his second string staff running things. All I know is that on Sunday evening, the food was bad and the service brusque to the extent of being rude.
