Look. I knew I wasn't in LA. I knew there was no way the ramen here would be as good as what I'm used to eating. But I figured, I'm not a ramen snob. As long as it tastes warm and comforting, I'll be fine. And even then, the ramen here exceeded my expectations (in the bad direction). I'm not someone who craves ramen that often but this evening was chilly and I was looking for something broth-y. I figured I would give this shop a try. I was seated very quickly and was able to order within minutes. The price for the miso ramen seemed pretty reasonable, and it's my ramen of choice when I do eat it, so I figured I'd give it a try. I knew it wouldn't be a "traditional" bowl as the toppings listed were definitely out of the norm and mentally I was fine with that. I'm open to nontraditional toppings as long as everything tastes good. As soon as I took a bite, I was severely disappointed. The noodles honestly tasted like the type you get out of an instant noodle pack. The broccoli was hard and definitely not cooked all the way. And the soup had a strange taste that I can't quite describe, but definitely isn't normal for ramen. Again, I'm not a ramen snob--I've eaten lots of bowls of ramen at all sorts of restaurants (albeit in LA) and they've all tasted fine to me. But this was actually inedible. I was starving and had to eat something, so I just picked out all of the noodles and some of the corn and honestly left the rest of it in the bowl. I feel a little bad giving this place such a low rating, as the workers were nice enough, and it's not like I got sick, and maybe their other food is much better. But I really can't give this place a higher rating than I'm giving it because it truly was an inedible bowl of ramen. Sorry, Otani. read more

overall a very confusing experience. we dined around 7 pm on a saturday with 3 other parties as context. orders were taken promptly, but over the next 45 minutes, we had 3 different wrong orders brought to us. it was slightly frustrating, and after 6/7 plates were brought out, we asked about our last dish only to find out it wasn't put in. aside from the service, the jigoku ramen was oily and bland for a tonkatsu broth. the meat and egg were cooked well tho. the extra spicy wasn't spicy at all. the chicken katsu don was pretty yummy! crispy, and a bit too saucy even for me, but enjoyable nonetheless the cavaliers roll was super confusing. the cream cheese did not mix well with the dried anchovies or rubbery razor clam atop the roll. read more

They kept messing up our order. Like so so badly. I think they brought us three rounds of trays of food with the wrong order. It was such a mess. And they would act like it's our fault. When eventually told them our order and they finally brought everything out except one dish. We are all eating and my friend who is missing her dish finally says something and they said that we never ordered that. At this point I wanted to just leave but they brought it out. My friend said it was just very sour and hard to eat. My sushi was decent but it was just the fish, rice and seaweed nothing special. The tonkatsu ramen was just okay, nothing special but what stood out most was the bad service. The only person who ever apologized was the sweet hostess but even then she blamed it on the large group who was before us (who was pretty much done eating by the time we sat down btw). Came here after an NFL game for dinner and it was very busy, clearly a popular spot. They have TVs playing games on the inside and lots of seating which is nice. The servers seemed a little overwhelmed with the capacity and forgot some things we asked for, which is the only reason why this place isn't a 5. Food came pretty quickly. The pork belly appetizer was delicious!! Juicy and loved the veggie mixture on it to add texture and some creaminess. I got the chicken katsu don and loved it, the chicken was well done and the dish overall was tasty. My sister got the jigoku ramen and liked it, the broth wasn't exceptional but still good. The pork was also very well done, and tasted a little like bacon on the edges because it was so crisped. Overall: affordable spot for Japanese dinner in CLE, expect to wait for a table on game days but worth the wait for good food. read more

Visited Otani Noodle for the first time with my coworkers and it was great experience! The service was quick and the server recommended that I try their lemonade and it was really good - I will return for that alone! I ordered the Torikatsu as my entree and it was a good selection. I've only been to a couple of noodle restaurants so although I don't have much to compare Otani to, I enjoyed it. I visited during lunch time and it's definitely a convenient choice if you're looking a casual place to get in and out. read more

The was a very average meal. It likely survives based on location as the food was middle of the road. The sushi doesn't seem of high quality and the pork belly had little flavor and more fat than you would want in a bowl. I have never had a bad experience at Otani Noodle. I've gone several times, what I loved! Is when you order take away they keep the broth separate from the noodles so everything doesn't get soft while your driving home absolutely wonderful. Serving sizes here are fantastic. The Mrs. ordered fried rice and it was a lot. I ordered the Electric Eel Roll which was pretty good. The seaweed salad serving size was too large for me to finish. The chicken gizzards were also something I would highly recommend. We also shared a gyoza appetizer which I also enjoyed. Reviews were great and they were pretty spot on, stopped for a meal on our last night in town. We both love Asian food but have different likes, he'll eat it all and I'll eat Ramen but prefer something else and no sushi- otherwise love it. I ended up ordering Chicken Fried Rice, Yakitori and we shared the gyoza. My preference is pan fried gyoza and this was half fried half steamed and delicious, so was the fried rice and yakatori. On this visit we, both requested a #1 Char Siu, which includes roasted pork, noodles, scallions, mushrooms, seaweed, corn, and half a boiled egg. They have four different broths for the ramen. The Char Siu includes tonkotsu broth, which was delicious. The flavors of the bowl were excellent and my co-worker especially loved the pork. This was a cute ramen shop. The food was nice and hot and the lady who helped was super nice!!! My only qualm is its not authentic. The food was good don't get me wrong, but if your looking for something more authentic this isn't the place. I do recommend the coffee thought. Was nice as I walked around. It felt more like winter than fall at the time. I got the curry fish ball. Was fresh and you could see the steam coming off. I had to make a video of how pretty it looked. I'm here in Cleveland for 2 days only! At the lobby bar of the hotel I'm staying at, I met a nice couple who lived in the downtown area for a year. I mentioned that I loved ramen and they spoke highly of Otani. It was walkable from my hotel. I went for the Jigoku, which is the spicy version of their Char Siu. The ramen came out hot and a full bowl. The service was great. I wouldn't rate this the best ramen I've ever had as the broth could of been more flavorful and the pork could of been a bit mor tender. I had three hours to kill between landing in CLE and picking someone up to head to Cedar Point and found myself here! The menu is large and there's definitely something for everyone, which I appreciated. The staff was very nice, thought slightly overwhelmed with a lunch rush. I ordered the ramen with crispy chicken katsu. First off, the noodles were fantastic! Exactly the right balance of chewy and slurpable. Everything else was good but not as good as the noodles. There was no spice and the broth was yummy but not excessively flavorful - I can't remember if it was chicken or pork broth, so that could have been the difference. The broccoli cooked really well in it, but I thought the mushrooms were a weird texture. Chicken was very good and juicy. This ramen place is one of those "place your order at the counter and we will bring it to you" kind of place. Their menu is on the right wall when you come in, and pictures are very helpful. The broth is not bad. What brings the score down is the noodles themselves, as we have had few other places that are better quality and gave us a little more for a 12 dollar bowl. I had the pork ramen and the pork tasted more of chinese soy braised. It was also a bit tough and an awkward giant chunk that was hard to eat. They also didnt seem to understand when my husband asked if they fried their shellfish item in the same fryer for the katsu. This only docks a point because my husband has an epipen quality allergy to shellfish so we always ask. We would eat here again but likely to try another place when we visit again. read more

This place has really good noodles but what really stood out to me was the broth--so robust and complex! The noodles were cooked really well with a really good chewy texture. The portion size is perfect, not too much, not too little. Parking is a bit tough, bear that in mind. There is ample seating inside as well.
