The interiors are cool and clean with a more minimalist feel than the usual trellises and vines and pottery that you're accustomed to. The atmosphere here would suit a place in the city centre rather than suburbia - the staff are friendly and efficient, the music evocative but not overpowering and the general feeling is that you can have an authentic Greek experience without someone smashing your plates. The food is amazing - I'm a big fan of Mediterranean flavours and after spending some time living in Cyprus I'm an even bigger fan of Greek and Turkish tastes. For meat lovers, the Keftedes meatballs is a good place to start. Lefteris' house special Ouzo Chicken is also something not to be missed, although I'm a fan of the traditional Mousaka , Kleftiko and Stifado. If you're a veggie, you can't go wrong with the Houmous, Tzatziki and Tahini dips to start, and then there's veggie Mousaka or my favourite, Dolmades (stuffed vine leaves) which are delish. Prices are reasonable - you're looking at around £14 for a main - and if you're a fan of all things Greek, this is somewhere you must try.

I got the garlic mushrooms starter and the moussaka as my main, which was exactly what I needed. The mushroom starter was excellent as it was a super augmented mushroom soup. Steaming hot full pieces of mushrooms bobbing in cream, a great way to warm up quickly. The moussaka was filling and flavorful, with eggplant, minced lamb, potatoes and cheese sauce. They even served the main with a side of perfectly made fries in case you needed more food.

There's banquets to share and a good range of dishes, all of which look good enough on the menu to take a hopeful punt on. In fairness, they ARE all worth taking a punt on! The bar is as well stocked as any restaurant bar and the wine list is... well... I'm not a wine expert so I wouldn't know. From the look of it, it seems good enough unless you're Oz Clark. The staff are all pleasant and clued up and, on certain nights, they have traditional Greek music and, well, let me just say that, if you're after a quiet romantic night in, avoid this one (ring ahead to find out when it is as I can't remember) as it can get a bit loud. People here really properly cook it, not just deep frying everything or re-heating pre-cooked and pre-packed meat, like the most even expensive restaurants do this days. He gets really involved with the people who eat there. Whenever I have been there, he has made me get up and dance with him on a table at the front. After the dancing he gets everybody outside and lets us all smash a plate. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is the best I have ever experienced in a restaurant. I highly, highly reccommend this place to people of any age for birthday meals, anniversary meals, a fun night out with friends, anything! You will have fun, guaranteed!

Name issues aside though, The Greek Taverna is a lovely restaurant to dine in and represents a refreshing change from the usual swarm of Indian and Italian restaurants that litter the local area (talk about overkill). The dishes available there are both varied and delicious, with the lamb keftedes being a particularly favourite of mine, as well as the kalamari. The Greek Taverna also does several special offers which are well worth checking out, such as the Early Evening Menu (2 courses for £12.95) and a Sunday menu, both of which represent excellent value for money considering the rich and flavoursome food on offer.
