Great old school diner. Seems family owned and operated. Had the Haystack which his the spot. Hash browns, biscuits, sausage patty, eggs, gravy. Hella good.

The grill, deep fryers and TV.

If you want good old fashioned diner food, this is the place to go. Friendly staff and owners will treat you right. The booths were installed in the 50's and are now a little snug for the average American.

So, this place feels like you went back in time. It's an old school diner with a few new things. They accept cards now, btw. The food is definitely diner food, but it's filling and tastes good. I could eat their pancakes without syrup all day. I love a pancake that isn't bland. My 2 pancakes and 4 sausage links were filling and I literally could not make myself eat my last two bites of pancake. The haystack my fiancé got covered the plate and he had to leave 3 bites on the plate because it was so filling. The service is not bad. Especially since we chose to sit at the counter. It's not a big place, so I don't suggest coming with a big group, but if you need filling, good food at a good price this is the place. The menu is not huge, so it makes it easier to narrow down if you want breakfast or lunch. The bill came out to be $19 and some change before tip. Of course we'll be back. It's a Rantoul staple to eat at Ott's.

Awesome biscuit and gravy. One of the best I've had, and I'm a big B&G snob! Place is a bit small but very casual. Excellent service.

Super affordable and tastes homemade. Seating is not the best, but it's vintage so they are more snug

On our way through, stopped in Rantoul for an early dinner. Saw great reviews for another place,…read morebut they were closed, so we tried the Red Wheel. This is a cross between a truck stop and a generic family breakfast and diner restaurant. There was a lot of options in the menu and daily specials. No trouble getting a parking space or a table. (It was 4:15pm in a Sunday.) Only a handful of people in the restaurant, although they had a kid's party in the party room. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. I was skeptical of what to order based on other reviews, so i played it safe and ordered breakfast. I had the ribeye steak and eggs, which was totally fine. Don't expect a great steak with your eggs, but it wasn't bad. They cooked my steak medium rare and hash browns extra crispy, just like I ordered. (It's shocking that I almost never get either of those cooked the way I ask.) My sun said his omelet was good too. My wife's got Turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy were not so great. Better than a frozen dinner, but not a lot. I think you can count on a solid breakfast, and should just be realistic about keeping it simple here. (I bet they make a decent club sandwich too.) Not bad for a quick meal at a roadside diner.

I know that's a weird flex for a restaurant, but listen, usually I'm playing Tetris with plates and elbows, so having actual room to breathe? I appreciated that. Now I started with the Wisconsin cheddar soup, and let me tell you, it came out HOT. I mean fresh off the stove, don't play with it hot. Flavor was there, but I'm not the biggest bacon fan, so I couldn't quite finish it. And that's okay, because the main event was waiting. The chicken stir fry? Oh, now THAT'S where things got serious. Best thing on the table, hands down. I even added my wife's eggs from her meal, yes, I mixed cuisines, yes I took risks, and baby, I was gone. I scarfed that plate down faster than a horse at the Kentucky Derby. No shame, no regrets. And let's not forget our server, such a sweetie. Always nearby, refilling waters, checking in, chatting just enough to make you feel taken care of without hovering. Exactly how it should be done. All in all? Great food, great space, great service. I'll definitely be back...probably for that stir fry alone.

The location is a little unusual, being part of an old mall turned into an artsy shopping hub. There is a door outside of the mall to access the restaurant directly. Two notable dishes from our visit were the breakfast quesadilla (soooo good!) and the biscuits with mushroom gravy. The service was slow, however, it was a Sunday. We loved the place so much we booked a reservation for our next visit down to see our son at U of I. The restaurant also has a coffee bar where you can get special coffee drinks, and some random handheld foods. The seating area is eclectic and inviting. The menu looked delicious but I choose the Ruben based on the servers rec. it was great. The corned beef was tasty, the cheese was the perfect amount. Nicely warmed on a seedless marbled rye. The salad was so fresh with an incredible greed goddess dressing that is house made. The restaurant has a cozy cafe feel. I do feel it's a bit pricey for a college town. I know if I were a student that I couldn't afford over $20 plus gratuity for a sandwich, side salad and soda. I know, it's fresh and homemade and the economy has changed but I'm just stating the facts.
