Marisa the owner and lots of licorice
    Neluta G.

This is a specialty licorice store, the owner was very pleasant and took her time explain to us how licorice is made. She buys her products from local manufacturers. I am not a fan of licorice however the store was very interesting and worth seeing if you are in the Jordaan neighborhood of Amsterdam. Apparently there is no such thing as red licorice that we sell and eat in large quantities in the US. When we left she gave us some free licorice to take home.

Go here instead. Much nicer staff

This woman is as miserable as everyone says. Not friendly and rude. I wanted to take a picture to show my family, and was told no. She points to a tiny sign posted up high in the corner with a camera and a line thru it. I don't see what the big deal is. She acts as tho she's going you a favour serving you droopies. I found a much better Dutch candy store on on Regulliersbreestraat 30. More variety, more accessible, nicer staff.

    One happy girl!

Shop is beautiful, but owner is extremely rude towards tourists. So it's worth visiting but be aware.

I later found out that they have Papabubble in the US in Manhattan in New York. And the other day,…read moreI saw they are making one in San Francisco in Hayes Valley... I'm happy that they are successful bug I kind of don't like globalizations... One less souvenirs from Amsterdam... But I guess, now I can go get to see the candy making day at the store since I missed that in Amsterdam. And they still have branch store original designs for the souvenirs.... 8(

If you're just visiting Amsterdam, buying a bag of candy from this amazing little shop is a must…read more First off, the candy is beautiful. Yes, candy, beautiful. How they make it is an art form of its own. I was lucky enough to encounter a demonstration they were doing for a school fieldtrip one morning after stepping off a KLM redeye. Essentially, they start with giant strips of colourful, slowly solidifying sugar, layer, wrap and press it into the shape they want and then roll it from a giant wide cylinder down into the tiny long one and cut it into the hard candy pieces you buy by the bagful with kiwi/strawberry/faces/animals in the middle. I like to stock up and give bags as housewarming gifts to people I stay with or as edible, ever-fresh presents when I return instead of stupid souvenir items that just gets dusty in the closet (clogs, keychains with clogs on them, life-sized windmills). Obligatory slapstick joke: It's the best damn hand-rolled thing you can legally bring home from Amsterdam.
