We were in Rome, Italy last year on the hunt for the best gelato we could find. We found it in Nice! On a sweltering hot August afternoon a few weeks ago, our first Mom & son overseas trip, we'd eagerly hunted for a pleasing looking spot for ice cream in the old town, Vieux Nice. I'd followed some yelp reviews to a different spot beginning with an F and had some extremely below average gelato. I figured maybe this was the best we could hope for in town. I was a bit disappointed but my son was happy enough just to get some ice cream at all, so we went on with our day. After a blisteringly hot climb in the mid afternoon sun to the highest overlook at the chateau park followed by a gorgeous dip in the sea, we were wending our way back through the old town once more towards the tram and back to where we were staying. Crossing the pretty square containing the Palais de Justice, my son was drawn to Qui, Gelato! and pleaded to go in. I'd mentally moved well past ice cream, it was now early evening, but it only took a moment to let go of the boring "we've already had one!" mindset and remember we're on vacation, he'll only be a kid this happy for ice cream a short while longer, and hey, life's for living. SO glad I did, because this compared to the stuff we had earlier was like night & day. Holy gelato - I'll be dreaming about this ice cream for a long while... we shared a two scoop cone: dark chocolate (son) and pistachio (me). They actually paired beautifully. Chocolate had chunks of dark chocolate inside and somehow felt so rich despite being gelato. Amazingly rich flavor without being too sweet. I'm a sucker for pistachio and this was honestly one of, if not the best I've eaten (& I've eaten a lot!). Again nothing like the overly sugary stuff we have in the US. Just heavenly. Tried to wrangle another visit to old town next day just to go back to Qui gelato on our way to the airport, but ran out of time. So please go and enjoy a scoop or two for me! read more

4.5 stars for good quality gelato but will bump it up for good quality. Not the best I've had but very good. A bit pricier than alternatives in the area but their quality makes up for the premium. They do have smaller servings as well compared to the ones around. Good decoration with the wafer on top. We came here 3x and would do more if we stayed longer. I recommend trying it out! read more

At the heart of many shops and a day market area. Staff are friendly and the gelato is very good. We had the chestnut and hazelnut. Hazelnut tasted buttery and creamy and the chestnut was tasty and had a lot of flavor and it was very sweet. There are seats inside and outside so there is a choice of atmosphere. read more

A fun gelato and dessert store in Nice. You'll walk by it on the way to Viex Nice, and the people behind the counter are super friendly. I ordered a tiramisu dessert and my husband had a pistachio/hazelnut gelato on a sugar cone. YUM! Delightful. Some seating right out front. One of the best gelato I have ever tasted. Yes I have had gelato in Italy. It is just a few blocks up from the beach and from the place we just had gotten lunch. Although it was sprinkling we decided to grab some gelato and sit on the sidewalk to people watch. We walked in and everything looked bright and inviting. I ordered a double scoop of hazelnut and pistachio. Paid and grabbed a seat outside. Man was this gelato tasty! You have to stop by here and satisfy that sweet tooth of yours! read more

Having arrived in Nice after spending time in Italy, you bet I had a developed palate for gelato. I had already eaten some of the best gelato in Rome, Florence and Bologna. Oui, Jelato is a local gelateria just on the lovely place du Palais de Justice. They have a few tables outside the shop where you can relax, people watch and eat your gelato. The gelato itself is delicious. There a good assortment of flavors (parfums) in fruit or non-fruit varieties. I really loved the pistachio and the various chocolate flavors. The shop also does a variety of mini-gelato desserts and novelties. Surprising to see creativity put into gelato treats! This is my favorite gelateria in Nice. Family run - I think. Just make sure you have cash. There is a minimum charge in order to use credit cards. read more

Of all the Gelato places I've come across in France and Italy so far I like this place the most. Just when you think French desserts cannot get more divine looking, they have to put gelato in little shot glasses and add toppings in such a way that makes it so perfect. I honestly only stopped by this place because Fennochio was closed, but I'm really glad I did! There are many flavors to choose from and the prices were very reasonable. It's centrally located in Vielle Ville and there are a few seats out front. The girl working there was very friendly. She offered to let us try a few flavors and explained some others to us. We came here almost every night after dinner. After trying many jelato spots, this one was it. The flavor is so rich and tasty. We really loved the dark chocolate but trying almost 6 different flavors, they are all a delight.
