"My house is your house and your house is mine."
I love that Amsterdam has a diverse range of museums. I wasn't initially planning to visit Our House, but I had an unexpected extra day to explore. Purchasing a last minute ticket online was not an issue.
Visitors had an hour to freely explore the museum. There was a bar near the dance floor and drinks were allowed to be taken into the different exhibits.
The first half of the museum focused on the history, culture, and evolution of House music. The intro video was really interesting. I didn't realize that House music got its start in the underground clubs of Chicago and Detroit in the 80s.
They had interactive activities with sound boards, drum machines, turntables, etc. You could also listen to an array of DJs on multiple headsets and take photos with replicas of the Daft Punk and Marshmello helmets.
At the end of the hour, they had everyone come back to the dance floor to watch a 15 minute video. It felt like a rave with the vibrating floor, lights, and fog. The emcee was trying to hype us up, but I think everyone was pretty chill because it was a Wednesday evening.
I like House music and thought the museum was fun, but it wasn't necessarily a must see. Unfortunately the museum has permanently closed so I am glad I had the opportunity to visit when I did. read more
