At lunch time on a weekday, very busy with all tills ("registers" in American) having a queue ("line") of four or five patrons. The self-checkout had an interesting coin-acceptor that I've not seen before. Very tight parking lot. There is a petrol ("gas") station.

This is a fairly good-sized store, which carries most of the usual Sainsbury's range. This has happened to me several times, even when I've gone in the early afternoon. The fish counter is excellent, and the staff are happy to give advice about how to cook and serve your fish. There is also a very good deli counter, and a fresh bakery. Although this store doesn't sell any clothes at all, they do have some jewellery stands near to the pharmacy, and a very small entertainment section at the front of the shop where you can sometimes find a bargain cd, dvd, book or game. The staff at the tills are quick and efficient, and I don't usually have to wait for too long to be served.

The store itself is bright, airy and well laid out offering the usual Sainbury's fare food and drink wise. There isn't much in the way of clothes etc nor homewares but there again, as I mentioned before there's the Homebase next door. They have a number of special sections including organic, bakery, cheese etc. They carry a very good gluten/wheat free section. There's nearly always enough tills in action so I've rarely had to queue. The customer toilets are well maintained (situated off the corridor that joins the supermarket and Homebase.) A seperate J cafe is next to the supermarket. Being seperate it doesn't get the shop noise and they'd blare in music so its a nice quiet spot for a cuppa before you tackle the weekly shop.

Fresh flowers, cards and newspapers are the first to catch your eye, leading you to the well-stocked aisles packed with produce from fresh and vegetables, to a variety of fresh meats and fish. Their famous meal deals are also prevalent, as are the dairy and fresh food. Most of them M&S branded goods, but some well known high street brands are also starting to invade the shelves, which adds choice. The variety of pasta, bread, tinned goods, frozen food, confectionery, fresh bread/rolls etc. are equally impressive. Staff are friendly and helpful, and there is never too much of a queue. The price would prevent you doing an entire family shop here, but its a great place to come for a treat, where you know the quality of the food is high.

I have moved relatively close to this store in the last 6 weeks, so have visited a few times with…read moreit potentially becoming the store where I do my weekly shop. However, I shopped here on the 29/9/2024, spending a total of around £120 (our normal amount), only to receive a parking notice yesterday for £85 for staying over a time limit. Now I have a few problems with this: 1) Punishing customers who spend a lot of money at your store is daft. 2) Most stores have a 3 hour limit, not a 2 hour limit. (This can be seen at the ASDA up the road) 3) Customer Services fobbed me off this morning when I went in to ask for help with it, saying there is nothing they can do, I have to talk to Euro Car Parks. (I know this is not the case, as I previously worked for Sainsbury's, as a customer service manager who had to manage these issues regularly. It is a case of Sainsbury's liaising with Euro Car Parks, a simple email). So I also feel like I have been lied to. As it happens I had a little shopping to do today, but at the point blank refusal to help, I took my custom up the road to ASDA. Furthermore, the same will be the case at the weekend when I need to do the full shop, and this will remain the case, unless something is able to be sorted. So well done, I guess.

Once, at the counter, the clerk scanned my items, and just walked away, with no help in packing. The walnuts we got once were stale. I really wish there was a proper Indian store in the Nottingham area. At this time, there appears to be no choice whatsoever.

The majority of the shop supplies foreign food (mainly German) at a discount, with chocolates (and various other snacks), dairy products, fruits, meats, alcohol and various gifts, stationary and misc. Not everything in the shop is cheap, but often have bigger sized portions which makes them more economical. If you are not big on brand names, I would recommend Lidl to you. There isn't a great amount of variety and often products that are there one week aren't there the next.

We had planned to eat outdoors but it was a little breezy and an empty table at the Apple Tree offered some shelter and so we grabbed the table. This is where things went wrong. The staff was not at all friendly when Mrs G went in to order (I was sitting outside with our beautiful Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix Ricky Martin) and the staff was not trained. After the order was placed they can out to ask which baked potato we had ordered (really - I told you!). When it came out it was ok - but £8 for a baked potato - huh!? And then the brought out the wrong panini (she specified NO cheese because she has to avoid salt). So Mrs G essentially left hers uneaten and I ate mine but was still starving. That delight with 2 sodas - over £24! Will we be back? To the marina yes, to the Apple Tree - no thank you!

As it was raining this afternoon we decided to grab a drink & came at The Appletree. A cafe in a beautiful setting next to the Marina with a high ceiling, fancy lights, mirrors and a baby grand piano. I had a glance at the cake counter there was a good selection of cakes but I decided to go for a cream tea. My partner wanted the same but with coffee. I had to pay extra for coffee but not much. We waited a little while for the drinks etc to come. The only thing that spoiler the tranquil setting was a child screaming which was amplified by the vaulted ceiling. My cream tea arrived, a large pot of tea with a fruit scone accompanied by jam & clotted cream. It was all lovely. Our visit was only marred by the noise of the child but that happens everywhere we go and the toilet being out of order and the nearest public toilet being at the top of the Marina. Glad the large pot of tea didn't take effect.
