We brought it up with the waiter, and all he said was, "Sorry for the mistake." Unfortunately, nothing further was done to resolve the situation, aside from offering us a complimentary dessert. We feel the waiter should have been clearer in his communication and taken more accountability for the misunderstanding. The manager also made no effort to address the issue.
