This is a very cute bakery in little Italy! The sourdough bread I tried had a great bite and stayed fresh on my counter for a week! The spicy fennel was a unique but very strong flavor which I had on a sausage egg and cheese sandwich. It was very good! The bread here is great. We've had their fresh bread before so today we wanted to try their prepared menu. The turkey havarti was great, delicious sandwich. The caprese panini had really fresh tomatoes and basil. The spinach and cheese quiche was tasty also. All great! Went back on a Saturday morning and it was very busy. Got the breakfast sandwiches on everything bagels and it definitely did not disappoint, super tasty bagel, perfectly cooked sausage, and light egg. I'm absolutely obsessed with Ovenbird. A relatively new business, Ovenbird filled the need for bread bakery in Baltimore. Its a small shop but they have a variety of bread (baguettes, loaves, bagels) and desserts (everything from pie slices and cookies to pastries). I've also had their quiche which I recommend. They also have a really awesome rewards program. They are always friendly and I havent had a bad experience yet. You dont have to deal with crowds unless you go in the morning on weekends. read more

Ovenbird has become my go to breakfast & lunch spot. I t's open 8-4; closed M & T. This very new Little Italy bakery has many fans, and it's worth a few minutes in line to get inside the tiny goody-filled shop. If you arrive at opening time, you'll see the breads still coming out of the ovens. The wide variety of gorgeous breads makes choosing difficult, but get a scone of any kind as they go fast. The berry lemonade is house made and so popular that it's sometimes gone by mid afternoon. It is worth trying it with a shot of ouzo, something "dangerously delicious." It's great without the ouzo but the combination is surprisingly good. The orders are taken and filled at lightening speed, and on the sidewalk, there are clean, brightly colored tables/chairs for four. I went to Ovenbird for the first time yesterday. As I was walking closer to the bakery with my mask on, I was overcome with the scent of freshly baked breads and pastries. It was delectable. They are currently only letting one party in at a time due to COVID, and there was a short line of eager customers waiting to get their bread-y fix. It was well worth the wait. The baguette I got was perfectly crunchy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. It smelled and tasted fresh and homemade. Perfection. The staff were kind, helpful, and patient as we tried to figure out which of their foods would be safe for my many allergies. They were already sold out of everything else that was safe for me, but I already told my husband that we're coming back and I'm trying one of everything I can have! Very excited to try this new, local neighborhood bakery. We placed an order via their website, walked up to the door, picked it up, and started eating the bread on our way home. Smelled great as we approached the bakery. Bread was fresh out of the oven. We ordered a sourdough loaf, challah loaf, and brioche buns. Came home, put some butter on top and tried all three with the morning coffee. Really delicious bread! The brioche is so delicate, it almost melts in your mouth. Great buttery, slightly sweet taste! The sourdough has a nice crispy crust and a great taste. The challah is subtly chewier than ones I have had in the past, but we thought it was great and hope the recipe stays the same. Funny how this bakery has managed to be right under my nose and I've only just recently managed to visit.  It's probably for the betterment of my health that I haven't found this bakery earlier.  :-)  Upon entering, everything looked delectable in the showcase.  After a quick conversation with the counter staff, I settled on the French Baguette that did not disappoint at all.  As iconic as the Eiffel Tower,  it is such an important stable to French culture and brought me nostalgia to the times eating bread every day in Paris. The French Baguette: FRESH! FRESH! FRESH! The textures are unmatched. The Crust was CRUNCHY and the center was aerated and elastic when pressed between my fingers. It is best enjoyed the day it is bought, otherwise, you might have a tough time when it loses its moisture. Also, do yourself a favor and use a proper bread knife for satisfactory auditory ASMR. There is sometimes a line in the morning so please provide yourself some ample time as space only allows for one customer at a time so save yourself some time by ordering online (weekends only). SO DISAPPOINTED!!! My daughter's friends raved about this place, and we waited for a special occasion to try it (delivered by GrubHub). We could not order the breakfast sandwich--problem with the website? We could not specify the kind of single bagel we wanted. Despite these problems, we believed the hype. I got lox and cream cheese on an everything bagel, with a "handpie" for dessert. She got turkey and havarti and a single bagel, as well as a baguette. EVERYTHING WAS BURNT! We are not picky eaters, and our enthusiasm was high, but we ended up throwing away the entire VERY EXPENSIVE order. The photo does not show how burnt and dry the food actually was. Because of the price, I kept trying to eat my lox order, but it was so salty that my mouth turned into the Sahara and I--truthfully!--could not muster up the saliva to chew and gulp down the food. Maybe it was a one-time problem. Maybe the person in charge of toasting got distracted and didn't notice that the food was ruined. Maybe the expectation was that, with so many favorable reviews, one "We-will-never-insult-our-mouths-and-stomachs-by-eating-here-again" would make no difference. We don't know the reason, and certainly the best of places do have off days and, sometimes, heedless employees. What we do know is that we cannot, in good conscience, recommend Oven Bird to anyone after our costly, very unpleasant experience. In fact, we feel that we need to warn others not to get their hopes up too high. Sigh. What went wrong, Oven Bird? We adore good baked goods and were eager to try yours, since they were so highly recommended. Sorry that we cannot offer a good review, but we ended up having to throw $61 worth of food (I didn't list all that was delivered, but none of it was edible) in the trash. My hubby and I've come here two weekends in a row. We've tried the morning glory muffin (grainy and not too sweet like it should be), breakfast sando on English muffin (pretty good), the.amazing quiche w gruyere, the almond and chocolate croissants (almond is bigger and better balance of flavors and legit), overnight rye bread and simple cream cheese on eth bagel. That everything bagel - I'm from NYC, and it took my husband to help me realize that I'm a bagel snob. While that fills up life outside of NYC w many disappointing trips just to try a bagel shop, that also means that coming across a proper bagel lights you up like no other while everybody else is just munching along. That happened to me today. See my photo of the bagel - you can just tell from the profile view of the texture that it'll be crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. It's not beyond amazing per se, and has ways to be improved (slightly more dense and bigger, no air bubbles on the skin, too burnt on the bottom) but it's what a classic bagel should be. And I'll take that from a Bmore bagel. Two notes - go early on weekends. They didn't have croissants last time when we went past 9am, and there was a ~10-min wait to place an order. Their hot food order takes a while, and they messed up our order and seemed to never find the owner to an avocado toast the busy Sun morning we were there. read more

happened to find this local bakery on my way to the bank in East Harbor during the lunch. It is corner bakery store, seems like baking daily. Honestly I would love to try every breads there. I am sure I will go back. I had avocado toast with salmon ($12). It may be little pricy but considering avocado and smoke salmon, I think decent price in this area. And I got really really full after eating this within 5min... It was toasted perfectly, crunchy but not too crunchy. I was not sure what kind of bread they were using, I should have asked.. It may be little salty side for some folks, but I love smoked salmon and salty food, so it was perfect for me. There are a couple of outdoor seating with small table. Nice day like today, it would be nice sitting outside and have a couple of coffee and lunch. They open at 8am. I will defiantly try to stop by and grab coffee and breakfast on my way to work. Parking may be tricky since it is in Little Italy residential area but it would be nice walk even if you walk a couple of blocks. Wholesome goodness. I started getting my sourdough bread from here instead of buying it at the grocery store and let me tell you, the difference in taste, is unbelievable. Buying and supporting local, small businesses (bakeries) is the absolute way to go. Also, I'm OBSESSED with their drink called the Staycation. It's an espresso tonic mixture and I would've never thought that I'd like something like this but it's so refreshing and crisp and delicious. I go to ovenbird weekly. Their beads and baked goods are outstanding. The breads are rustic and full bodied. They have an assortment of sourdough. Wile I try to eat them quickly, they do last. After a couple of days in a PAPER bag they just need refreshing in a toaster oven. If you keep them in the plastic bag they usually put the breads, the crust loses its crunch. The focaccia is superb but only stays fresh overnight at most. But even stale, just heat it in the oven and pour tomato or pasta sauce over it. Their baked goods are uniformly outstanding quality. Their quiches are delicious, my favorite being the mushroom over the spinach. Cookies are dense and rich. The mosaic cake is crazy good and one slice is enough to put 2 people in a stupor. Not all is perfection but that is mostly my taste. The rye is too heavy and the scones, while yummy, are not very scone like. I was not a fan of the meatballs. They pull a mean cappuccino. And their bagel and lox sandwich is great. Super nice folk too! read more

Ovenbird serves sandwiches (breakfast & lunch) as well as baked desserts like danishes and cookies. I discovered Ovenbird upon visiting Lexington Mrkt and trying their samples of their blueberry scone. I was transcended - this is undoubtedly the best scone I have ever tasted. More recently I came for late breakfast and ordered a bacon egg and cheese sandwich and raspberry danish. After ordering, the owner Michael asked me if I'd like to try a new version of the sandwich with garlic paste and arugula. I obliged and got to talking further with Michael. He was so kind, told me about his history growing up in the Philippines and his excitement about opening Ovenbird. If he wasn't already kind enough, he offered me some free cookies: salted chocolate chip, MINDBLOWING. And of course the sandwich, with Michael's suggestions, was delicious. We are excited and wanted to try a lot of stuff... ordered the breakfast sandwich with sausage on an everything bagel, the borek, a blueberry scone, and a loaf of the sourdough. Everything was great. Breakfast sandwich: egg was perfectly cooked, bagel was great, and the sausage is beyond what you usually expect from a breakfast sausage. Borek: delicious and unique Scone: blueberries were really fresh and delicious. Also had a lemon glaze we really liked. Sourdough: so, so good. Fabulous. A great breakfast spot. The coffee is excellent. I had a Matcha latte with oat milk. The havarti w turkey on sourdough with turkey was fabulous. Everything bagel was very good. Could do with a little bit more salt. Service was fabulous with the real amazing delight was the salted chocolate chip cookie that they gave us for free because it was our first time.
