5 stars for the Irish music…read more The whiskeys they poured at Peadar O'Donnels were probably the smallest I've had in the UK, and I had plenty of whiskeys during me 3+ weeks traveling there. The sign on the wall, if it was to be believed, made it seem like they were pouring between 18-20ml. Every other bar I had been to either used a 25ml measuring cup or the rare 35ml measuring cup (THE CEILIDH PLACE in Ullapool stands out in my mind as giving out 35ml), but this guy just poured from the bottle into the glass, and indeed it did seem a very wee dram. :) My wife got a beer though, and that was of a normal size. :) If you don't care about the music, I am sure there are plenty of other bars in Derry that can give you a good wee drink.

There is live music on saturday and sunday. It is essential that you be there early to get a seat. The bar food is reported to be very good and is only served at lunch time. Its a nice place to call into after a hard day shopping or just to experience the old premises itself! Many a Derry person likes this bar and its up there with the best.

Being in town for our honeymoon, and myself being originally from Boston in the States, I figured this would be a fun stop. Unfortunately, this wasn't. While the greeter did seat us without any wait (it was packed inside), in the 20 minutes we were at the table, not one server came to take our drink order -- as we were told was supposed to happen. Given how packed the bar was and no one who seemed to work there appeared not to notice us seated, we decided to move on to the next bar. It didn't make sense since other tables had been getting served around us, but not one server even acknowledged ours. On a honeymoon that appeared wouldn't have any duds for stops or experiences, this bar was the sole one.

Although there was nothing especially wrong with the place, it reminded me of every chain restaurant back in the US. The decor, the bar, the menu...everything. Nothing was authentic. We have traveled the entire northern coast and stayed, eaten in and visited a number of places, big and small. This is the first time that we left and were not excited that we had been there. If you are like us and want to feel you are truly enjoying Northern Ireland, I suggest a different place to eat and drink. Just my opinion.

Walk into Granny Annies in Derry and I will promise that you will be astounded by the unique décor…read more Whole rooms, for example, a sitting room with armchairs, fully laden table, television etc etc......nothing outstanding you say. Well, all of this hanging upside down from the ceiling. Siting there, sober, I wondered what this would look like after a few Guinness. The mind boggles. The staff in here are the friendliest, most happy people, I have ever met. Taking into account our age and they were youngsters, That didn't stop them chatting about their weekends and their aspirations for their future. Great bunch of guys and gals. Service was fast, even with the traditional length of time serving that perfect pint of Guinness. The lunchtime food that we partook of was delicious and plentiful. We noticed that in the evenings there was live music. Would loved to have heard that but......remembering our ages. I am sure, had we turned up we would have been welcomed. A fantastic restaurant and bar. Fantastic staff and good food. Thank you, one and all, for making our stay in Derry perfect. See you again.
