When I came in with my two brothers and our dad we were one of only 2 groups there: the other being a group of 6 or 8 people at a cluster of table pressed right up against the end of the bar. The bartender (the only staff on at the time) seemed to know them, and basically spent the entire time we were there standing at their table talking with them. We walked over to the pool table, which is in plain sight from where she was standing and proceeded to shoot an entire game without ONCE being approached, or even called out to... finally, my Dad had to go over and point out that we'd been completely neglected this whole time and retrieve our drinks from the bar (which, I don't know how this place works, but that would never be the case in the city - with an almost empty bar like this they should be able to easily make a round now and then). Over the course of the 3 or so hours we were there, that group left and another smaller and younger group showed up, setting up camp not far from us, and still there was no service in our area save for one brief appearance. I can't imagine what had her so busy all that time. I'm giving this place a second star because the building itself was very well kept, the pool table was in good condition - everything NOT related to service was perfectly fine... nothing to write home about, but fine. The service on the other hand was pretty terrible, and the lack of business at that time of night was completely confusing... until I talked to a friend who's a local, and I was told that at the time we were there (8 to about 10:30) is when "people are at home, drinking for cheaper. They don't start to get busy until later when all the pre-drinkers show up." Yeah... not exactly my kind of place.

Old Cinema is a decent place; Only when you are hammered…read more As an Augustana student, it is an alright place if you go with friends. However, like Will M. said, the DJ is absolutely terrible. This place needs to be audited badly. The bartenders get drunk, they let customers come behind the counter and serve drinks. They only take cash there. It's a real pain. The place needs desperate renovations. It is slowly falling apart on the outside. The inside needs to be refurbished. There is always small pieces of glass down the sides of the couches. I have cut myself on them. OC's needs to be a more friendlier place, with better standards and bartenders. The bouncers are rude and ignorant. Like I said, its a ton of fun when your drunk out of your mind, because your drunken self doesn't notice the muck and the grime and the arrogance of the employees there. Sober you, however, will find the place disgusting. So basically, only go if there are Augustana students there.

The crowd has definitely changed as the drug dealers and rig pigs are barely seen in there anymore. It has been way more busy as the new DJ does not play crap techno or youtube videos at all. He will play some techno as long as its good techno. The guy in the bathroom is no longer there, they kicked him out a long time ago. The seating is a lot better with a row of couches on the side. The OCs does become a strip joint on wed and thurs but no longer hire the "rejects" of Edmonton clubs. They come straight from an agency in Edmonton that i am surprised the Manager dishes out the money for. The situation on the drink prices sadly remains the same as you will prolly not pay the same price for the same drink every time. As i was saying with the DJ situation he actually DJs and not just plays song beginning to end with no mixing, he mixes and he mixes good, he also plays the music videos when he has them. The new DJ is probably the best thing The Old Cinema could have done as he has increased business. So the best time to go to the Old Cinema... all year round now... good music... good bartenders. Although i will say this..... the place definitely needs a renovation. For the safety issue they have hired some really good bouncer and kept two of their best who have been there for a number of years. The amount of fights that go on there have decreased substantially. Even though it is so much better than before... the other review was right when he said the best time to go is when college is in... who doesnt love college girls.

Which has lead to an extreme diet restriction. Mr.Mikes was willing to adjust there mushroom chicken burger to my needs and at first did a great job at making sure it was modified correctly. Over time they got lazy and ignored the modifications and nearly sent me to the emergency room over not removing the aioli. In one night alone they had to remake the meal 4 times because they kept messing up the food from burnt to incorrectly made. I was not asking for anything crazy in fact I was paying to have a chicken burger made as plain as can be. After having the food repeatedly made wrong I was told the owner would contact me and they never did. Tonight I ordered take out and the food was disgustingly overcooked. The chicken and mushrooms were literal rubber and the bun was rock hard. I was told they'd remake it but it be at least a 30 minute wait as the modifications were "a lot". Once arriving back at the restaurant we were told they will not ever be remaking food for me and if it's made wrong I can just deal with it or not come back ever. You win Mr.Mikes I will absolutely not be coming back. The food you remade tonight was disgraceful. Your customer service is lacking compassion and basic understanding of making sure you don't attempt land someone in emergency surgery. Now I know mistakes happen but over a dozen have happened now and at some point you being to think are they purposely doing this because I'm annoying? I never asked to have an organ fail me. It was also my sister's birthday (her daughter) so we explained she was in no shape to be taken out of the hospital, but that we'd 'bring East Side Marios to you'. We called the restaurant and explained the situation and asked what they would do to help make the meal in her room as authentic as possible and whether they could give us a menu so she can feel like she was there. The manager obliged, saying he'd certainly do that. They delivered everything for us including two menus(incl. drinks menu). We played beautiful Italian music and had a fantastic time, even though she could only take a few nibbles of it. Thank you, ESM's. You helped to make this a special day for my mom.
