The field is turf which makes for a nice give for doing exercises on foot. There's also a great set of stairs to run m and work the glutes and hammies while also raising the heart rate for cardio. Getting to the field can be daunting depending upon where you park. The track is marked for any distance you choose to run. There's almost always people working out, running, playing soccer, or training in the mornings and on the weekend. Remember, this is a school so you're unable to access the track during school hours.

Next to the playground area, the park extends to huge grassy fields, basketball courts, bathrooms, and tennis courts. It's honestly such a great public park for South central Berkeley. Alameda's Southshore is a man-made landfill, which was developed in the 1950s-1960s. In the heart of the Southshore area, are 2 schools, and Rittler Park. It's level ground and there isn't alot of trees. Why? Because Rittler Park is also the multi-purpose sports complex for Lum and Wood schools. I graduated from both those schools. We spent PE classes on Rittler Park. Basketball, soccer, softball, running and volleyball. Later it became the home of Little League baseball. Rittler Park is the park of Southshore.

I could see people coming from miles away to get to here. I think the best part is probably the lighting. Its very bright and very fancy. That means if the sun sets it won't put an end to your fun. There is a gym equipment section near the entrance. Good for pullups or situps or stepups. When was the last time you did some of those? Lets be honest.... Toward the back there is a play structure. Good for young kids. It wasn't too popular I think because this park is known for the fields. So might be a good option if you want fewer kids around your own kids. Tons of parking. The lot is more than large enough. Overall the park is very clean and new. Its almost surprising that it is technically Hayward, CA. You just don't expect anything that nice from this city.

It is also very much baseball-centric with multiple baseball fields, batting cages, etc. There is also a large grass field that could be used for a variety of other activities, including soccer. Although I'm not sporty, I do like local parks and beautiful spaces for people of all ages to participate in physical fitness activities. There are a a few picnic sites with 7-8 tables each and two are nicely covered with giant shade structures. There are also lots of water fountains, garbage/recycling bins, and lots of individual picnic tables and benches. There are bathrooms and a snack shack on one side, but I think those may just be for use during baseball games. There is a small playground and they seem to have plans to upgrade.
