Finlay Park offers a GREAT playground with slides, rope ladders, climbing limbs, splash pad, and turf slide. Plenty of room to relax or log a few steps. There is a beautiful water fountain, grotto and pond where they offer sailboat rentals . There is also 2 miles of sidewalk and pathways for walking or taking advantage of the roller skate rentals they offer. Not to mention pickleball courts, ping pong, soccer goals, and fitness court. A round of applause to the City of Columbia for this amazing recreational and public space.

Martin Luther King Jr. Park was an awesome public park, both for the way it honored Dr. King's…read morelegacy, as well as providing a nice public space and geographical information for city residents. I went to the park on MLK Day 2026 (1/19/26) and was happy to see that others had already stopped by to lay flowers and place a wreath at the park, and pay their respects to Dr. King. I took one lap around the park and liked reading the plaques about wetlands and detention ponds, as well as looking at some other symbolic markers around the park. To conclude, this is a great public park, and I'll definitely be back in the future to walk around and collect my thoughts. My favorite Martin Luther King Jr. quote: "The time is always right to do what is right."

There are a number of benches and picnic tables which would make this a good spot for bringing lunch from nearby. There did seem to be a small population of residentially-challenged but they kept to themselves and I was able to enjoy the park today. The large fountain is pretty and there are some other tributes to the late Doctor King including a stone carved with a small portion of one of his more famous speeches. There is some street parking. It's still a nice place to run or walk through, or sit down for a little while, but I feel that the experience could be greatly improved if just a few simple adjustments were made. For example, many of the signs in the Cancer Survivors Garden were faded, and you couldn't really make out what they said. There was also what I think was supposed to be a fountain that was out of water, and quite a few patches of dead grass. I don't think any of these things would cost much to touch up, but like I said, would greatly improve the experience. On the plus side, I loved the native vegetation, little stream that ran through the park, and the benches that were covered in shade from the trees. All-in-all, I think this is a cool park, that I hope will one day reach its full potential!

It is a safe environment with plenty of people out walking, plus it's dog friendly. Beautiful scenery and homes along the trail and not to mention you're surrounded by water and the sound of the stream will keep you going. I did see a few people out riding bikes as well. I'm a biker myself, but didn't think that the trail was large enough for large groups on bikes. But then again, are most trails ever?? If you're in the area please do plan to check it out and go for a stroll. Parking is limited, but also available down the street.
