The category Dive Bar that the Owl Club comes up under in Yelp is fitting. As far as dive bars go this ranks up there but I'm reviewing the steakhouse portion. Four of my friends and I went to dinner here last Friday night and while we were waiting to be served they were complaining about the last time they had been in and how long it took to get there food. This time was no exception. The place was somewhat busy and I believe there was only one waitress. The atmosphere was noisy, the waitress was friendly and on top of it as she could be. The food was average and took a while to get. This being said it is Eureka NV with not many choices for places to work or eat so if you decide to stop in you will have to just grin and bare it. read more

Two stars for being the few food spots open around noon on a Sunday afternoon and for decent food in the middle of the desert. We wanted the Mexican spot next door but they were closed. There wasn't much of a choice. Service was ok, I think the poor boy was overworked managing the whole dining room himself and rude demanding customers screaming at him. Interior was nothing special, felt a little dirty. Had to ask for condiments. My hubbys cheeseburger was good but my chicken Philly cheesesteak had gigantic chicken slices so I can't pick it up and bite into it without the chicken falling out. I'm used to small, shredded pieces of chicken in a cheesesteak! Lemonade tastes like cough syrup. Afterwards, I had the worst stomachache the whole way home back to California. I know it's the desert but I would skip. PS: what is up with all the broken and chipped plates??? This shows this place truly does not care about the perception and the dining experience. Let me qualify by saying in fairness this is a very rural and small town. It's not on Route 66 so there's no real nostalgia. It's on the loneliest highway in Nevada (50). Eureka hasn't been the friendliest place I've been to in Nevada. I think most of its citizens still work at the mines and the population in 2020 was 415. That may include stay dogs and deer. The good... plenty of seating and great salads. Typical roadside decor with pictures of mines and indiscernible heavy equipment. The bad... overcooked, super salty wings. The ugly... horrible service. saw the server three times. When she Took the order, when she put the dish down and again when she dropped off the bill without so much as a "thank you". I arrived kinda late on a Sunday night, but the owl club was still open and serving food at around eight or 8:30 PM. I had the roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes, it was excellent, felt like a home-cooked meal. It also came with steamed vegetables. The folks who work there Are very nice and did a great job. The place itself has a dining area and a separate bar area with slot machine, machines and jukebox. Very rustic, but also nice. read more

This is a great place to stop on the highway 50 survival trip. We got dinner here before spending the night. It's a super busy local hang out, with bar and restraunt. Everyone here is super friendly! Be aware that you will not get a check at your table. We were super observant, and saw that people were going up to the counter, so we asked, and yes you must go up to the counter and they will find your order so you can pay. What went right: the server greeted us promptly, took our soft drink order, delivered the soft drinks and food, recommended a chicken "cutlet" sandwich for my husband. The older female cook made a chicken sandwich my husband liked very much. The very very bad: the server ordered some a burger, when I told him if they didn't have blue cheese, I'd order sometime else, he did not ask how we wanted our burgers cooked (we had been driving 8 hours, so I didn't think about it), he didn't bring catsup, cutlery or napkins until asked (he was talking to a girl when he should have been working), and served me a burger he knew I didn't want. The cook made the burgers well done which, of course dried them out. She put my burger on a cold bun. She, of course, should not have cooked my burger without at least asking if I wanted it without the blue cheese. She overcooked the fries and tater tots and, after forgetting to make them, burned 1/2 the onion rings and overcook the rest, so they had no hint of onion flavor. If this is what they think a diner should be, then don't bother. It's a staff problem. read more

'there might be some in the bottom of the freezer", they were GROSS, cold and no flavor.. the service we were the only ones there and it seemed to be a bother to them we were even there.. and What Ambiance.. The small town of Eureka, Nevada is located along U.S. Highway 50 - known as The Loneliest Road in America" - nearly 100 miles from the "big city" of Ely, and nearly 100 miles from the nearest town to the west, Austin. There aren't many dining choices in town, and Eureka isn't known as a dining destination ... but if you're hungry thirsty, you're in luck as you can visit Owl Club Bar and Steakhouse, located on Main Street, in downtown Eureka, Nevada. As you enter the cafe... or restaurant, you'll notice the rustic, western atmosphere. You'll note the many western paintings, and the knotty pine paneling. True to this day in July, 2020, tables are dispersed in respect to the "social distancing" that even seems to be happening in Eureka. The order counter is at the rear of the restaurant, with Jay, the manager behind the counter. Owl Club is a full-service restaurant, but soft drinks and coffee are dispensed from behind the counter. You can sit at any open table, and Jay will bring you a menu. The first page of the "Lunch" menu features all of the local favorites, and just about anything that you could ever hope to find on a diner menu. I was truly tempted to order a "Fish and Chips Basket," but like my friends, from the "Classic Homestyle Burgers" section of the "Lunch" menu, I went with a "Hamburger." From the "Classic Homestyle Burgers" section of the lunch menu, all three of us placed identical orders of "Hamburger," and "Tater Tots" as our side. As far as sides are concerned, you can choose between "Tater Tots" or "Crinkle Fries." Gee... I should have ordered the fries just to be different! Although the restaurant wasn't busy, it took nearly 45 minutes for our orders to arrive... hmmm. I can forgive the long wait time, but face the fact that you're in Eureka, Nevada, not Eureka, California! The "Hamburger" started out with a generous sized patty of ground beer - I'd guess a third of a pound - cooked perfectly medium. I "guess" that one of us had asked our server to order a burger cooked in a different style, the chef would have been happy to oblige. The meat patty was tender, juicy and cooked perfectly. Each meat patty was placed on a lightly toasted bun, with a little melted mayonnaise to add to the flavor. The menu advertises each burger "comes with all the fixins" and the "fixins" include lettuce, dill pickle slices and white onion. The "fixins" were crisp, fresh and complimented the fine burger. The "Tater Tots" were deep fried to a perfect golden brown on the outside, and white and tender on the inside. They were neither salty or greasy and were cooked just the way I like them. I confess that I dipped them in ketchup, which brings out the "kid" in me. The burger and tots were delicious, perfectly cooked, and very basic. No worries, as Eureka is very "basic" and so am I. My friends and I left the restaurant happy, full and satisfied. The dining is basic, the atmosphere is rustic, but the food is good, the price is right, and the beer is cold. When you're traveling on the "Loneliest Road in America," and you find yourself in Eureka, Nevada, stop by for some great food and a cold beer or two. read more

We were traveling and were ready for a good burger. A local at the gas station recommended this place and it was just what we were looking for. My husband was happy with his burger and my chili burger was delicious. The fries arrived super hot and crispy, which is very important to me. The portions were generous. We both left some food on our plates. The owners were serving that day and they were very friendly. The cafe adjoins the bar so it was a little smoky, which might be a consideration for those sensitive to smoke. They also had some fun souvenir shirts, etc. for sale in the bar area. We would stop in again. Oh, and they had the cutest owl figures on the tables holding the salt and pepper. I've never seen anything like them. read more

Stopped in for lunch after a few hours on the loneliest highway. Good service, good food! Fryer was broken and they gave us a free side salad because we couldn't have fries; nor did we need fries. But, somehow the chef came up with an alternative cooking method and they brought us out nummy fries. Excellent customer service, such a cute place, very clean. read more

I was visiting this quaint town and found that this restaurant had a great selection and amazing service. I was even more impressed with the food and the amazing portion sizes. If you are in the neighborhood and you need a drink or something to eat, this place is a great place to stop and enjoy some local time with some new friends. So glad I found this place in Eureka. It's a nice saloon with nice wildlife paintings, owl themed shakers, and a huge dining area. Great food, fast service. I suggest ordering half of what you need here because the portion sizes are gigantic. Truly HUGE. Ordered the club sandwich and the pastrami melt and my gf and I ended up eating it for 2 meals. The sandwiches are so huge you'll need to deconstruct them to fit it in your mouth. They taste great though. The side salads come swimming in dressing if you don't ask for it on the side, so I recommend that. Best place to eat in Eureka in my opinion. read more

Had the club sandwich on the recommendation of a couple of locals. Eureka has a surprising number of good eateries considering it's practically a ghost town. My son and I were on a road trip and were driving on the official "Loneliest Road in America" (it says that right on the signs), highway 50. The town of Eureka NV is basically in the middle of nowhere (hours from anywhere else), which is what makes it interesting. It is a historic town that still survives. The Owl Club Bar & Steak House, is according to the person at the gas station, the best place in town (but there were not many choices!), so we went there for dinner. This establishment is half bar (the Owl Club) and half restaurant. The bar was very smoky and the smoke drifted into the restaurant, so we asked to be seated away from the smoke. My son had the Meatloaf ($14.00), which included a small salad and mashed potatoes. He found it was good after a long drive from Reno. I wasn't feeling too hungry, so I wanted something light. The friendly waitress recommended getting a bowl of Chili ($4.50) and a Baked Potato ($2.00). It was just the right amount of food for me and reasonably priced. The combination of their chili and the baked potato was very good. If you happen to be in Eureka NV and it is meal time, this is the place to eat. read more

Do not eat here!! Heed my advice...was the worst food and dining experience, ever! Options are pretty limited in Eureka, and I've been to the Owl Club numerous times in the past when traveling for business, however, after my last visit, I will NEVER eat here again. My co-worker and I stopped for dinner, and both ordered a French Dip. When it arrived, it looked pretty basic. I lifted the top of the bun, and noticed a slab of what appeared to be a few slices of reheated microwave dried up meat. We both kind of looked up at each other and shrugged our shoulders. It's not like we were expecting a 5 star dining experience, but something edible would have been nice. So, I thought to myself, "Well I guess I'll order an IPA to wash it down, eat it quickly, and it should be enough to calm my growling stomach." Well, I was wrong. We took a look at the hot Au Jus sauce, that looked a lot more like hot tea, we dipped our sandwiches took a bite, and was totally disappointed. Not only did it not taste like Au Jus, but it also didn't taste like hot tea. It was more like dipping it into hot dirty toilet water. 'Scusting! I ate a few of the frozen fried fries, took another bite, and was like naaaaaahhh... "Excuse me?!" I uttered to the pimpled-face waitress. "Do you happen to have any hot sauce?" "What kind? She questioned. "Anything, really, this sandwich has absolutely no flavor, and I need to add something to it," I quipped. She handed me a bottle of Cholula which I quickly smothered all over my sandwich, as my co-worker looked on. She had already given up, but I was starving, so I was willing to give it another chance. I took a bite, and was like mmm Cholula, and then again, one more bite, and finally decided I just couldn't do it. We notified the waitress shortly after, explained the log of poo sitting in front of us, was just not edible, and we'd prefer to order something else...anything else. At this point, I was thinking about how good a rolling hot dog that's been spinning under intense light bulbs in it's own nasty juices, at the local gas station for 12 hours, would be. Probably delish! She was confused, and told us she would have to call her manager over, since we ate half of our sandwiches, so didn't think it was doable. Uhhh excuse me? My co-worker gave up after the first bite, and I, well I attempted to eat it after dousing it with Cholula. But, we waited. What else did we have to do in Eureka? The manager finally came over, from the bar side, looking sloppily disheveled, with no bra, torn tank top, flip flops, shorts, and what I assumed was her child, in tow. Was she over there drinking? It appeared so... Anyway, we explained our situation, to which she responded, "Well I am a little leery of your claims, everyone says our French Dip is the best, and our chef is the greatest chef there is," or something to that effect. No, we are the Half Eaten Sandwich Bandits. A gang who loves taking advantage of small town diners, eating a portion of our food and then claiming to be appalled by the crap of slop we receive, and requesting something new. She saw right through us? I asked her to try it, take a bite, tell me what she thought, which she refused, and luckily so. She then went to talk to her chef, came back, and again told us we were wrong. At this point, I couldn't wait to get out of that place. Order something else from these freaks? Never...I was paid for my beer, and was forced to pay for my french fries, but I would never be forced to eat there again. We ended up driving up to Sloppy Joe's, who are under new ownership as of May 2015, surprisingly the same cooks who used to work at the Owl Club for over 20+ years, and informed us they were recently fired when the old owner, recently let his no bra wearing daughter, take over the establishment. We also found other people, who were also dining at Sloppy Joe's, overheard our stories and shared similar experiences. Unfortunately for the Owl Club, they lost some awesome cooks, who cook really good food, but fortunately for Sloppy Joe's, when people are looking for freshly prepared well cooked experiences in Eureka, they will know where to go. read more

My friends and I were passing through after his motorcycle broke down just outside of town. We came in past 11pm absolutely starving and they had just closed the kitchen down. After talking with the bartender and ordering some drinks she went back and talked to the cook who agreed to make us some sandwiches at least since everything else in town was closed for the night. This small gesture meant the world to us after the day of riding troubles we had previously. The world needs more people like this. read more

Just came through town looking forward to country style breakfast decided to eat here sorry now that I didn't take pictures to show you how little was eaten the toast was not toasted the potatoes were supposed to be country style potatoes with peppers onions which the peppers and onions were in abundance that was good they were sauteed , but the potatoes have been deep-fried and the onions and peppers just added on top of potatoes eggs ordered over medium came well done hard !! French toast showed up cold I think I've indicated enough what wast of time and money and the server never asked was everything Ok ( Not) we ask her to heat up the cold French toast she did do that ! Traveling through with my son and stayed at local RV park. Nice comfortable clean place with friendly staff. I had Ground Steak (16oz) which was probably the best I've ever had. I also did the mashed potatoes that were equally great. I was unable to finish so took some back to RV where my dog was also very pleased!
