Absolutely delicious!! The matcha pan was the star of the show for me - perfectly flakey and crispy and the matcha had just the right punch of bitterness. It was only about $12 for 3 pastries, which is such a steal for the size of these pastries and for being pretty special. I love the layout of the inside. There are two doors to enter/exit and they both bring you right to the front counter. It's self serve where you grab a tray and tongs and whatever snack you'd like. Go to the counter to pay and order any additional drinks or desserts in the refrigerated display. They have cute takeout boxes and they have a bright seating area on the other end of the bakery. Parking was easy, though it is in a shared lot with other businesses. It was steady busy there, with a constant stream of people coming and going but I didn't have to wait long, people were very courteous about grabbing their goodies and moving along. Overall, highly recommend!

Love me some fresh baked pastries. The squishy goodness makes my toes curl!! It smells so good when you walk in to this place. Mouth starts watering and there are so many choices to pick from. Freshly baked and different fillings that will make your heart scream. Grab your tongs and fill your hearts desire. They have savory items as well as dinner rolls and sliced bread.

Oyatsupan Bakers is one of my favorite bakeries around Portland. I've visited many times in the past (although my last visit was about 5 years ago) and each visit, I've always left with a box full of pastries. They bake some stellar Japanese breads and buns, every single one baked with care until perfectly delicious. On our most recent trip to Portland, we of course had to stop by Beaverton to pick up some more. We actually ended up going here two days in a row since we couldn't get enough! Matcha Pan ($3.30) - This is one of my favorite melon pans. There's perfection in the cookie crust layer on top. It adheres so well, yet is crumbly and gives a firmer texture versus the chewy and soft brioche-like bun underneath. The toppings isn't too matcha-forward, but it's definitely there and not too sweet. (5/5) Chocolate Chip Melon Pan ($3.30) - All the melon pan that Oyatsupan sells are fantastic and this one is no exception. Great cookie crust, this time more neutral flavored but with chocolate chips mixed in, on top of the same stellar soft bun. (5/5) Matcha Frangipane Croissant ($4.70) - This croissant is rolled into a somewhat cruffin-like format. It has great flakiness and the interior is nicely laminated, creating delicate airy layers. They add crunchy sugar on top to give even more texture. Matcha paste is spread along the interior surface of the spiral. It has a pleasing grassy bitterness. The pastry as a whole isn't too sweet at all which is great, especially since typical matcha croissants from American bakeries tend to be too cloying for me. (5/5) Kare Pan ($3.90) - Even remaining in the case for what I assume have been several hours, the exterior of this curry pan still retains a delicate panko crisp, especially with the little uneven bits strewn on top. The dough is fried, so it turns into a chewy bread, almost yeast donut or frybread-like in texture. The curry inside is excellent. Unlike most other kare pan that can be found in the US, that use either ground meat or completely omits meat, this one actually has chunks of braised beef inside mixed with tender pieces of onion and carrot. The gravy has a heavy curry powder flavor with sweetness and umami. (5/5) Bacon Epi ($4.95) - This epi baguette consists of six segments, each filled with chewy, ham-like soft bacon, and topped with cheese. The bake quality is excellent. Due to the fat in the cheese, it's almost as if the baguette is fried, creating a spectacularly crunchy crust that doesn't shatter, similar to the bottom crust of a Detroit-style pizza. The cheese caramelized and turns into essentially fatty and slightly bitter frico on the baked surface. The interior of the baguette still has substance, being chewy and well developed. (5/5) We actually went back the next day about 15 minutes before closing and they still had probably 50% of the items still available. All four types of melon pan, the kare pan, but unfortunately no more bacon epi! Oyatsupan serves some really great Japanese-inspired pastries. It's remained my favorite Asian bakery around Portland for years now for good reason. As a side note - there's a reason the Uwajimaya grocery stores up in Seattle sell bread and pastries from Oyatsupan! Bathrooms - Single unisex room Note: Oyatsupan charges for boxes/bags. See pic for pricing.

Such an amazing place. Wish we had one in Seattle but it's okay- gives Portland more local charm. I go here every time I'm in Portland and always get an array of pastries which are freshly made and not too sweet. I love their red bean bun, pans, jalapeño hot dogs, and egg sandwiches. You can't really go wrong. Take a pack of thick cut bread with you for home as well. Workers are friendly and there is seating if you want to eat in or they offer a wide variety of takeaway bags and boxes for a small charge. The kohuko(?) cold brew was really good!

    Custom order cake
    Anna T.

I have always enjoyed going to Oyatsupan for their fantastic baked goods, SO fluffy!! So when I heard that they did custom cake orders I was ecstatic, but I was a tad disappointed with the final product as it did not live up to the standards set by the rest of this wonderful bakery. I paid 62$ for a birthday cake to feed 6-8 with some "squirrel" designs(long story short, mom loves squirrels) I was expecting something that was cute, playful, original, and very neat. The topper they chose was just that; The fondant squirrel wearing a party hat! However, it appears that they used AI to create the band around the center, and it printed in some very odd colors that look like the printer was running out of ink. It also was poorly attached and the seam was showing on one side of the cake. The AI squirrels(while cute) felt impersonal and lost the flair and originality that I love oyatsupan for. The cake itself was delish! And their options for fillings and frosting was way more than your standard Fredmyer bakery.

Iced hojicha latte, "chewy oats & choc chip cookie," and "chocolate chip sable cookie"

I really enjoyed their hojicha latte. I've had both hot & iced, but I can taste the roasted/nutty flavor more when it is the hot version and just one pump of sweetener. Their "chewy oats & choc chip cookie" has pumpkin seeds on top and is so yummy. Very nice customer service and clean environment.

Top left to right: Prosciutto & Gruyere Croissant, little pizza, and katsu beead Bottom: Vanilla Cornet
    Kendall D.

I was randomly in the area and needed a quick lunch so I stopped in for some savory and some sweet pastries! As expected, they delivered the creamy, soft, uniquely japanese pastry treats I was hoping for! I think you can't go wrong but the Vanilla Cornet was delightful and had cartoon eyeballs, or the mini-pizza was super well-seasoned! They have an interesting self-serve model which I liked because I tend to hold up the line with my indecision!! Definitely would recommend for a sweet or savory treat if you have the chance! The cold brew was also tasty and refreshing (but I didn't try their syrup or sweeteners).

    Kare Pan is the Best!
    Maria H.

We come here for the Kare Pan! My kids and I love it! we havent found any Kare Pan in Oregon or Seattle area except here! Their Matcha latte is delicious as well! we come here everytime we visit Portland area.

So GOOD!! Super clean, and the employees were great! I made sure to ask if I was missing anything that is a best seller, definitely got those too! But, my favorite was the BEEF KARE DONUT, best savory donut I've ever had! It was crunchy on the outside, light and soft on the inside with a good amount of curry beef filling. I wish I would've gotten more! We loved the Prosciutto&Gruyere Croissant & the Double Chocolate Melon Pan. Everything we bought was really good. Even bought a package of the thin bread package. No complaints, only that I have to drive 3 hours to come back soon! If you're from out of town, get extra, you'll thank me later!

    Variety of pastries
    Dana B.

Wow, just wow. We ordered a bunch of sweet and savory pastries and every single one was so good. I don't remember the names of each so I apologize for that, but I feel like you can't go wrong with any item that you choose. The flavor, texture, sweetness, etc., everything was simply divine. I can't speak to the ambience or service of the location because we placed our order for delivery but the quality of the food itself was outstanding!

    Michaela D.

Don't even think twice,,go here!! This bakery is so delicious and there are so many options to choose from, sweet, savory and grab and go options! I got a variety of different pastries and tried both sweet and savory options. I just have to say if you think something looks good just grab it. It's going to be good. the service was great and friendly! The ambiance was also great and there was an ample amount of seating for everyone coming in.

    6" custom gender reveal cake
    Jon P.

I reviewed them already but I feel like I have to do it again with ordering a custom cake through them. We had a gender reveal cake made for us and Tara Mead was super helpful through email and made the process so easy. I was afraid the staff would spill the beans when I picked up the cake but they had a piece of paper with details im sure to keep it hush hush. What was icing on the cake (pun intended) was that the cake was sooooooo gooood!!! Moist, perfect frosting and just delicious, fresh fruits. Btw, we're having a girl!

    Hee Y.

We arrived at 12:50pm on a Saturday and 80% of the pastries were sold out! They had already restocked at 12 and apparently there were more patrons than they anticipated. There was plenty of seating. The curry soup was very good; it came with a slice of bread. We picked up a slice of cheesecake, chocolate cornet, black sesame croissant and cookies - all very good. We'll have to come earlier next time to have a wider selection to choose from!

I thought we'd go there for some to-go, and hubby found a parking spot, just around the corner, in the shade. As he was turning right, I also spotted a 'bakery' written on the window. I was thinking of waiting for him, in the car, and just grab a chicken sandwich. But, after he left, I decided to go inside the bakery to browse. He was standing at the corner, reading the menu of the shop, when I called him to 'Come over here!' I didn't know what I just walked in. Ooddles & oodles of cookies, cakes, pastries, sandwiches, like a one-stop bakery, cafe to-go. I started to take a video, of the whole shop, but sadly, as I turned it off, I realized I was just turning it ON! Instead of buying one sandwich for each of us, we ended up buying 4 of our 'look scrumptious' pastries that could fill us up. (Photos are not good quality, because I thought I was video-taping it. That's the result!) We each shared everything! We both agreed, it was probably one of the best lunches we've eaten. The pastry were still warm, the cheese in our ham was melting in your mouth. The spinach was just out of the oven. Everything was just wonderful! We will surely stop by here again, and buy twice as much, should last us a week.
