The teachers are very caring, knowledgable, accessible and involved. Here are some of the things we like about Seacoast Waldorf School: 1) the emphasis on creativity and a lifelong love of learning (my kids LOVE going to school!) 2) the fact that kids learn two languages (Spanish and German) starting in 1st grade 3) the emphasis on integrating arts into learning (for example, knitting helps with math, prepares kids for reading and improves concentration - who knew!) 4) music (violin and recorder in the grades; songs and movement, too) 5) outdoor/farming/nature emphasis (great for my two very active boys!) 6) an academic program that is deep, rich, and experiential. 7) being surrounded by like-minded families that want to give their children a real 'childhood', are engaged and involved and value all of the above. We've been sending our son to PCA since elementary school. We knew we wanted a strong academic…read moreprogram and the full breadth of extracurricular activities (sports, theater, etc.). And we wanted both of those things laid on a Christian foundation that upheld basic tenets of character formation. It was a challenge for us financially and geographically, but after trying it out that first year, it became clear that PCA was able to deliver on what we wanted, and more. Our son thrived academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. They quickly advanced him in the academic areas in which he demonstrated giftedness so that he continued to be challenged. Regular conversations around the importance of persisting (in the face of boredom, subject matter that's challenging, lack of personal interest), developing healthy habits of mind, flexible thinking and more contribute to a child's growth beyond the textbooks. Now in Junior High, we're seeing our son being given opportunities to lead and to serve. We appreciate being treated as partners with the teachers and administration in our son's education. The teachers, principal and head of school all make themselves available for conversations. And I love that the teachers reach out with recognition of "good stuff" our son is doing before contacting us about infractions. We love the setting of the school...open green space, beautiful river, small classroom sizes. Yes, we make sacrifices to send our son to PCA, but seeing first-hand the "product" they turn out makes it all worth it. We would do it again in a heartbeat.

This is a school where children love to learn for the love of learning, not because they have to…read moreknow something for a test. The students learn that grace and courtesy are just as important as their math facts. The students are inquisitive and respectful. The faculty are dedicated, supportive and enthusiastic. My children have been attending Cornerstone since they were 3 years old. They are now 9 and 11. Their knowledge of the world and their academics are very strong. I am always impressed by their level of maturity and respect for others and their environment. Cornerstone has shaped them to be strong, positive children.

At first we were so happy to have our son attend Cornerstone as a full time student in their…read moreToddler-house program with 10 other students. (It was his first school ever- He is only 2 yrs old.) Then suddenly in January their teachers informed us that they would not be able to keep him as a full time student the following year. We have two children and my husband and I are both professionals with strict schedules. It was a shock to suddenly be told that our child could only be a student from 8:30 to 11:30am. When we asked them why, they said he would not take naps. Strange, both our children nap regularly EVERYDAY. I was able to talk to the some of the other parents who have children in the same class as my son. A few of them mentioned that their kids also do not nap, but their children WERE attending full time next year. It turns out these families have have other siblings attending Cornerstone. That made us feel that the school was exhibiting some bias against our child. We had heard very little communication from the school during his first 6 months, just mostly generic daily comms, but suddenly we began getting communications 2-3x per week detailing complaints such as our son stepping on bugs, playing with sticks too much or even chewing his food with his mouth open, really?! He was only 2! This continued for weeks which made us feel bullied. This school makes up a lot of stories to cover up their own lies that they tell to parents. The toddler teachers and the Head of school, Lee-Ann are very judgmental. Once the She finds out that you are asking questions about the teachers, some of which are not certified, or questioning their "curriculum", She will make sure that you and your child will have a terrible year filled with multiple early dismissals which cause you to scramble for babysitting coverage or take personal time. Since we been there, the Toddler House class size has dropped by over a third. Do your research, this school has had a lot of issues with the Board of Education and has had multiple lawsuits filed against them, all in the public record. The upper school has a good reputation but their Toddler House leaves a lot to be desired. The reason for my review is to help parents really ask the RIGHT questions before going into this school. Good luck to anyone who is considering entering their child into the Toddler-House.
