AVOID....terrible repair, customer service and after care…read more I took my engagement ring into O'Hares in August 2023 to have the setting rebuilt as one of the claws was catching everything and I was worried about the safety of the diamond. I spent a total of £320 having this work done along with my three other rings replated. When I collected the ring almost a month later after being told the work would take approximately two weeks, the setting had been rebuilt in a totally different style to the it original so my engagement ring, wedding band and eternity ring didn't sit together. All three of my rings then had to be left for a further week for the setting to be rebuilt AGAIN. Not a great experience to begin with, let alone how it has continued since. I have since been into the store on at least two if not three occasions as one of the claws continually catches on fabric. Each time the jeweller in the workshop has assessed the ring and confirmed it is all ok when it clearly is not. All that was done on each occasion was to push the claw down to try and prevent further catching - ironic that this still happens when this was the reason I originally took it in and decided to have the setting rebuilt. As I was in Liverpool a couple of weeks ago, I decided to take the ring into Goldsmiths where we had originally purchased it from to get a second opinion as I am fed up of it catching things all the time. They have told me the diamond in the ring isn't level and all four claws are different in both build and height. They have recommended it be estimated to see how much it is going to cost to have the ring fixed and put back into a satisfactory condition. In hindsight, I should of gone back into O'Hares and insisted it was repaired to a better standard but for obvious reasons as outlined above, I don't now want to take the ring back into O'Hares to make a further mess of so respectfully requested a refund of the money I originally paid as I am now going to have to pay again to have this work done AGAIN. O'Hares have refused to take any accountability, stating the condition of the ring is down to daily wear and that the claws should all wear at different stages and will be subject to different impacts. They said that they wouldn't consider any refund as the repair was done 15 months ago, but they are failing to consider the fact that I have been back in since to state my unhappiness with the work. When I told O'Hares I would leave negative reviews as I am so unhappy about their total lack of customer care, they responded by telling me they would post pictures of the ring when I collected it, so I will save them the trouble and attach it to my post. It does show the ring looks ok when it was collected but what O'Hares have again omitted to mention is the fact that I have been back in since, so whilst it may of initially "looked" ok, it clearly wasn't. Trading Standards have been informed.

In fact I think I had a discount, because of the specific company the ring was from. They are security-concious too as you might expect. They have a window display, but to actually get in to ask about something you've seen you have to knock, as they have to release the door. Although initially this did put me off asking a bit, I did also realise that it was probably a good thing. I've also pawned old jewellery with this shop. It's the first place I think to go if I want something specific.

I stopped in recently because I just can't resist a red Sale sign especially when they put how much it was in big numbers. I digress. Yin Jewellery is a sweet little jewellers with some standard pieces alongside a good selection of pearls and precious stones, some exotic looking Chinese and Japanese pieces, like an amazing brooch that was unfortunately still out of my price range, and their own designed jewellery to boot. Great for wedding pieces. They also offer jewellery repair.

From Tigers Eye through to Agate, Amethyst and Red Coral, Yin sources the best stones for their gold and silver settings. One thing I was sad to see though is that they succumbed to the charm bracelet phenomenon that's sweeping the nation at the moment (buy your bracelet then collect your beads, you know the drill) but I guess times are hard and trends are hard to pass up.

We left without ordering anything and I felt no pressure at all. My fiancé and I visited many other jewelers and it was just as Lizzie described - lower quality, higher price. I was really surprised HOW spot on she was. We decided to go back to Walton's and again, we were greeted happily. Lizzie gave us great advice, talked to us about every possibility, and discussed how things could be modified to fit my unusually shaped ring. Now, because we don't live in the UK, we cannot go for fittings or special cuttings. Lizzie didn't blink- she gave me great tips on how to get it done properly in the States. We left feeling extremely satisfied. Just yesterday, I emailed her to ask for a special request, and I was immediately given the answer, luckily the one I wanted.
