A Turkish grocery store in Lombok? Wat leuk!…read more I come here a couple times per week and I really like this place. It must have the best selection of spices and grocery type stuff on Kanaalstraat. They have an extremely large deli area where you can buy dolmas, hummus, olives and other stuff by weight - and it's excellent. They always seem to have a good variety of produce and prices are reasonable. It's not the cheapest on the street, but it's worth it. They do NOT have a butcher counter like most other stores, and they are not open as late as the other vendors .

I love this shop. Ever since we moved to the Netherlands and my father found the Kanaalstraat, he's…read morebeen dragging me there. Yes, dragging, I don't really find Kanaalstraat all too interesting. We used to have a few shops that we frequented that have now gone that I didn't mind going to. But this shop, this one I even volunteer to go to! My dad loves to find some of the stuff that we buy in Israel and can't usually get here and quite frankly, I do too! I must say that the shop has lost a little bit of it's charm with the redecorating they did last year, but it does look a lot neater and it means more room for the gigantic assortment of nuts they added, including chocolate covered nuts. Mmm... Other than that, the shop has a nice array of cheeses, high quality fresh produce, lovely snacks and ingredients that you just can't get at a Dutch store and also a lot of different pasta's, pulses and sweets. The only thing I can't quite figure out is why the store is called Perse Polis and it says to be a Persian grocery store. My dad being a chatty Cathy of course knows his vendors and these guys are Iranian! Oh well, I'm not sure it's even a mystery that I want to solve. ;)

Good, affordable meats here at Kema Vlees. I walked by here a hundred times before I went inside…read more It's not very large, but they pack a lot of meat in to that space! I was more shocked at the low prices and huge portions. I am not a huge "meat eater" but love chicken (Kip) and some pork. The lekker smell of smoked meats overcome you when you walk in (a good thing). So many choices of smoked meats, sides and anything you want. You could make a full meal and call it your own from the chicken shawarma prepared meals they have here...all you have to do is cook and serve! It is right next to the Ten Kate Markt on the Kinkerstraat....so some competition, but the market (generally) does not have raw meat sold in this capacity. A bit crowded at times...lines form down the street during these Covid-times...but I can't imagine how busy this place would be if there were no restrictions on capacity. A good, friendly place...huge selection. Check it out!

It's well-stocked with all kinds of meats (not fish of course!). There are staff members there if you need help, and they were all smiles today, something I truly appreciate. I asked if they had breakfast bacon, and sadly they don't, so he gave me something else to try. It's a clean and open area so you can easily see everything. It's all well-marked with what it is, prices, and weight. But I really couldn't believe the prices. Between three different packs of meat, a few fruit and vegetables from the market around the corner (http://www.yelp.com/biz/ten-katemarkt-amsterdam-2), was about 10 euro. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? Obviously I've been living my life wrong. But it's okay, because I have found the way. My tip: Go here and the market first, then go to the grocery store for what ever is left on your list. My guess is that you will save at least 30-50% on your groceries! I know they take pin and cash.

Louman is also the only butcher in Northern Europe that has to date cut a proper Tri-tip. Every Thursday morning they receive cow shipments and every Thursday I pick up a beautiful 2.8 kilo average tri-tip specially cut for me. These ladies and gentlemen at Louman are professionals, educated, hygienic and incredibly nice. From what I understand, they will be offering a Santa Maria marinade tri-tip for sale on Saturday's only. I highly recommend to order in advance.

Ordered 2 Cote de Boeuf via their online portal, paid the EUR10 deposit and received an email confirmation showing total cost (EUR43.20), amount already paid (EUR10.00), amount due on pickup (EUR33.20). Set a time to pick up my order, and went in as scheduled. There is no accomodation if you've already ordered/paid, you simply wait in the crowd until they get to you. My order was ready, I paid, got my order and left. Looked at my receipt and realized that the amount charged in the store was higher than the amount quoted as due in the confirmation email. Full disclosure, it was slightly lower than total amount originally quoted, which I'm assuming meant the actual quantity of meat I received was slightly below what I'd ordered, so they adjusted accordingly, fair enough. But in total, I was still over charged by EUR7.00. Not a huge amount, an easy mistake, so I went back hoping to get a quick credit. Instead I was told that I was in the wrong, no one expects the butcher to charge exactly what was quoted, and I was dismissed, 'I'll look at it at home, do you still want your order?'. So I'll reiterate, good quality, crowded, long wait, unreliable online ordering, and attitude/indifference to any issues. Make your choice accordingly.
