Had a great pet exam visit today at Paces Ferry Vet Clinic. I've been taking our beloved Bambina here for several years now since moving from Dunwoody and leaving our prior vet at All Creatures. This location is convenient for those in the Paces-Vinings area around the corner from the Old Vinings Inn. For Bambina's annual check up she usually has a full exam, vaccines, and the vets will answer any questions or concerns. You should expect to pay for rabies, bordetella, and distemper (DAPP). One of them is administered via mouth and the other two are shots. Mandi, Erin, and Dr. Matthews were very nice to Bambina and handled her with care. Although Bambina might have been a little anxious/nervous to be there, she got her shots without yelping and was relatively calm to allow Dr. Matthews to listen to her heart and check her aging eyes. We have done the teeth cleaning in the past, but didn't do it this time, definitely worth considering if you have a small dog as it may require pulling some teeth to avoid abscess or infections. We look forward to future visits and health check ups with Bambina. read more

Disappointed in Paces Ferry Vet Clinic! We have been taking our two cats there for many years. At our last Vet visit with our 3 year old Gigi a little over a year ago she was overweight by about 3 lbs and the vet recommended Purina Pro Plan Overweight Management dry food...which requires a prescription. I placed an order with Chewy on the 8th and the approval was declined by Paces Ferry Vet....they are refusing to approve it so they can ship the food because it has been a little over a year since she has been in for an appointment....I see this as an unnecessary expense during a financially trying time where budgets are stretched thin. The ability of this practice to be inflexible on their policies is short-sighted, in my opinion. Gigi is healthy and has benefited from the weight management diet. I am definitely rethinking my decision to move forward with Paces Ferry Vet Clinic due to this. read more

I brought my cat in for his yearly rabies vaccine and they charged me an additional $70 on top of the $32 vaccine charge for TEN MINUTES only to tell me my cat was healthy. I know he's healthy... I didn't ask for an exam, I brought him in for his yearly vaccine! Then when I questioned it, they told me they checked his eyes and ears. I'm sorry... SEVENTY DOLLARS to look at his eyes and ears!?!? I'm clearly in the wrong profession if you can make $70 for ten minutes of doing hardly anything. I would even consider a $30-$40 exam fee to be somewhat reasonable but $70 is insane. They also failed to inform me of this fee beforehand and it wasn't on my previous years invoice (attached). I went in for an ear exam which turned out to be a yeast infection and was nickel and dimed for everything. They charged me for the medicine which is fine but then a surprise charge of $20 to have the vet show me how to put it in my dogs ear. Like I thought that was a part of the $70 vet visit along with the $100 in medicine and culture. Be wary of your bill and ask questions as to the charges. read more

We absolutely love this office! I have been using this place for a few years now with our recently passed dog and are going to begin bringing our new puppy here as well. The compassion of this team is absolutely astounding. During the last year of our dogs life they were very helpful and honest in treatment options and did not push any unwanted/unneeded treatments or tests on us. I see a lot of the negative reviews are cost related however, I have called almost every time to get an estimate ahead of time and they have always been accommodating so it isn't a shock to my wallet. There really aren't enough great things to say about PFVC! The entire staff is ALWAYS extremely nice, helpful/knowledgeable, and understanding. I've taken both my dog and cat here over the years- For normal checkups or vaccines to more complicated issues. The reception staff is always pleasant, but the techs are amazingly sweet! Always really gentle with my babies and treat them as their own. Docs too have always been very pleasant and explained things easily. They aren't pushy either and really listen to your concerns. We've seen 3 different ones. One doctor saw 2/3 of our pets and for each of their first visit referred us to a specialist instead of them being able to do the service(s) in house. One of them definitely needed a specialist, but the other one I felt they could do some testing there first instead of sending us elsewhere. Hospital is always clean and doesn't have any bad odors. Huge plus for an animal facility! Place does look a bit dated though. In the lobby they do have a separate waiting area for cats and dogs, which is really nice. Prices...well...pet care is never inexpensive. They do offer a free spa day when you purchase a year supply of heartworm and flea meds! I've always been able to get in easily, and even on a busy Sat they were able to see my sick cat right away. read more

The staff at Paces Ferry Vet are outstanding! They have been so accommodating to us and our little girl loves gong there - I guess as much as a puppy can. We had a terrible experience at another vet before coming to Paces Ferry so I was worried but the entire staff put me at ease right away. Our little girl has some special needs, so I'm constantly calling and Brittany is usually the one to answer. I feel like we are on a "it's me again" basis, but she has never been anything but friendly and understanding and it's so greatly appreciated. Paces Vet is awesome! They've always taken great care of my dog & have fit him into the schedule countless times. Anytime I called with an emergency, they were quick to get my baby in to see a doctor! With this being said, they are a bit pricy. For some, this would be worth it for the great pet care! Paces Ferry Veterinary Clinic was highly recommended by the shelter where I adopted my first dog, Ruby. Since day one, the entire office has been wonderful, so when Rufus joined the family a year and a half later, he also became a patient. All of the vets, vet techs, assistants, groomers, and receptionists take excellent care of both dogs. Most recently we've seen Dr. Hardeman and Dr. Minicozzi, but seriously, you can't go wrong with anyone at Paces Ferry. Still absolutely the best around. Charlie was here again recently for shots and help with a nasty outbreak of hives. The folks at Paces Ferry Vet were able to squeeze him in within 2 hours of my phone call. Everyone from the front desk folks, to the vet tech, to Dr. Merritt always treat Charlie like he's one of their own. Even though he is kind of a whiny mess, no one seemed irritated or bothered by the fact that he had no interest in listening to what anyone was saying to him. And when I called bright and early the next morning because of a suspected reaction to one of the vaccines, I got quick and thorough advice about what I needed to do to get him back on his feet. We just took our new Atlanta Pet Rescue pup to the Paces Ferry Vet Clinic for her first check-up and heartworm/flea meds. We knew they did a lot of pro bono work for APR and that's where my in-laws take their dog, so it was worth the short drive to Vinings. Stella had a full exam at APR, so they just did a quick check to clear her for the meds and they didn't charge us for it! Nice touch! I brought my 5 year old cat here one Thursday afternoon after he'd been vomiting for 4 days and experiencing loss of appetite. I called around 1:30p and asked if they had any appointments available that day because I was really concerned. They were able to fit me in at 3 o'clock, so I was really happy about that. They took basic information about me and my cat, Butters, over the phone and once I got there, I just had to look over the info, fill in a couple of emergency phone numbers, and sign. Not a lot of paperwork. The waiting room was big, bright, and clean, and the receptionists were all very nice and seemed genuinely concerned about Butters. I was only waiting for about 10 minutes before a vet tech came to take us to the exam room. She was very gentle with Butters and remarked on how handsome he is (all the ladies love him). I explained the situation to her and then she took him to be weighed and to take his temp. When she came back, she was accompanied by Dr. Merritt, who was also very nice. I didn't have to explain everything to her all over again, and she had already given him the once-over while he was being weighed. Dr. Merritt offered some treatment options, and suggested that we go with the less expensive option first. I was glad that she didn't take advantage and try to sell me on hospitalization, expensive medications, etc. because I probably would've gone that route if she said it was necessary (what people won't do for their animals). Overall, I was extremely satisfied with my visit. Everyone there was very friendly and seemed to really care. Even the girl taking my payment expressed her gladness that Butters is going to be OK. I will definitely visit again should I have any more cat-related crises. read more

My kitties are getting older. They have more needs now than before. We've been struggling to maintain a veterinarian that is close that we like. One of my cats became very ill, so I leaned on Yelp to help my ailing kitty. This brought me to Paces Ferry Vet Clinic. I had an appointment in the morning with Dr. Mackey. I've read some reviews saying this isn't really a cat office. Mostly dog people. That initially disheartened me, but one of the vet techs informed me that Dr. Mackey is a cat person! A cat person she was. When she examined my buddy Meegs, she was very sweet. She was also very informative about treatment and clear with instructions. Fast forward to two weeks later, Meegs is bright eyed, bushy tailed again, back to his old self and nearing the end of his treatment. Dr. Mackey personally called me to check in on him, which I have NEVER experienced from a vets office. Paces Ferry Vet Clinic will now and forever be my go to for my cats. read more

OK. I picked PFVC to be our new vet based off of some really good reviews and the seemingly endless photos of smiling faces in the pictures posted online. Being new to the area and having my 6 yo beagle have to go into the clinic on his own, i really wanted to get this right. I was a little unsure about the curbside visit that vets are having to employ due to covid and even brought an iPad to FaceTime in JIC my beagle decided to voice his disapproval in that way with pitch and volume only beagle owners understand. My pup has some separation anxiety and can't stand the thought of me being in the next room or on a dial in without laying on my feet for the past year. We were greeted by Erin in the parking lot. Super friendly!! She met with my dog and we discussed his records and preventive meds as well as what the checkup visit would entail. I watched as they strolled up into the clinic. About twenty minutes later I was on the phone with Dr. Minicozzi. I was impressed with her knowledge of beagles and positive feedback from the exam. I was able to ask questions and shortly after I was reunited with my fluffy sidekick. They took a cute picture when he first got in which came in the bag with some other goodies like a spa day for him. It's certainly been a strange year and even going to the vet is impacted. That said the Paces Ferry Veterinary clinic staff greatly exceeded my expectations and ensured that I would drive home happy with entrusting them with my pet's needs. I asked friends, read through reviews online and was excited to find this place even listed in Atlanta Magazine as a place pet owners rave about. We met Dr Merritt who was extremely patient in answering all of my questions. She laid out "in plain english" what the next steps would be for my pup and even advised I call her if any more questions or concerns arise....I don't remember the last time MY doctor laid out that offer. read more

Indiana Jones and I have been coming here now for more than three years. All the folks who work here are great. Their passion is truly providing the best care for any animal who comes in the door. It helps Jonesy is a bit of a flirt. All the vet techs love him and he's such a suck up. Dr. Fann is the only vet we've seen. Dr. Merritt is wonderful! I'm new to the area and came to establish care for my two little Morkies. After reading the Yelp reviews here, I couldn't be any happier with my decision to take my kids here. The exam of my dogs was comprehensive, and actually one of the best and most thorough that I have ever experienced. Front staff was nice, and the entire facility was clean. What I liked is that there's a back exit to take your pets through so that you don't disturb the pets waiting up front, a small detail but makes a big difference! read more

I got a 7 week old Yorkie from a breeder on Thursday and wanted to get her checked out. Having had a not-so-good experience with the Cumberland Animal Clinic (http://www.yelp.com/biz/cumberland-animal-clinic-smyrna) just 2 weeks ago when I doggie-sat my parents' senior Siberian Husky, I was determined to find another Vet close to where I live. Furtunately, since my new puppy stills whines through the night, I woke up earlier today than usual and was able to find this clinic's review before they closed at noon (today is Saturday). All in all, this was actually located even closer to me than the Cumberland Clinic (which has longer weekend hours) and far surpassed them in every aspect, including: (1) large open waiting area, (2) super clean without feeling sterile, (3) veeery friendly staff, and (4) relatively short wait for a walk-in...whereas I waited over a half hour for my PRESET appointment with Cumberland. read more

We are new to the area and I honestly chose this vet because it was closest to my home. During the first visit, I asked Dr. Merritt about having my dog spayed. My dog has a heart condition so I wanted to make sure Dr. Merritt was comfortable doing the procedure. A few days after the appointment, Dr. Merritt contacted me and had CLEARLY went out of her way to assure that my dog remained healthy. She had gotten in touch with two separate cardiologists and had referred Scout to a local cardiologist before undergoing the procedure. It was so comforting to find a vet that cared so much about my dog after a 30 minute check-up. Dr. Merritt went above and beyond for us and I would recommend to anyone!! read more

Okay, I have to update. We got a dog and the ballgame changed. First off, we no longer take our cats here. Most vets don't know much about cats. They're quick to prescribe anti anxiety meds for any problem without really trying to figure out the cause. Go to Paws Whiskers and Claws if you have a cat who starts having behavioral issues like pooping outside the litter box. Dr. G and Ingrid will hook you up. Second, our new puppy...well he gets into everything and I'm a worrier so I watch him like a hawk. I dread going to this vet now though. Bill is so outrageous. They are just so TEST HAPPY. Mention that he's shaking his head just once or twice and they'll test the wax for infection effin sakes. Got so furious at hubby for taking puppy here when it wasn't an emergency. I don't have money to burn. He had a weird rash and it took almost $140 bucks for them to say it COULD be an allergy or Poison Ivy. They weren't really sure but here are some pills that can help with itching but you gotta take him out every 2 hours to pee. WTF?!! read more

They will price gauge you including all medications for vulnerable pet owners!! They prescribed me dog clavamox pills that are chewable and huge instead of the smaller ones for cats. And when I tried to return it, they wouldn't refund my money and claimed cats can get them too even though they are huge!! And on top of that, they charged me $33 for 8 pills when they are $1.32 a pill off Chewy! Ridiculous. And $260 for a cat X-ray! I like the veterinarian I've been seeing here, but their prices are ridiculous especially when I know other veterinarians are not so expensive. Bad business to not refund my money for meds not used. read more

I love the staff and doctors at PFVC. They always act excited to see my dog and the wait is never long. My only caveat is that this clinic is extremely expensive. When comparing notes with other dog owners, I found that my costs were in some cases twice as much as they should be. After being jerked around far too long by VCA Terrell Mill Animal Hospital (*who I, of course, do NOT recommend). I finally found Dr. Whittle at Paces Ferry Veterinary Clinic. My dog sadly went months with a Urinary Tract Infection as a result of my experience elsewhere but once I got her in front of Dr. Whittle I got the answers needed to get her out of discomfort and finally feeling good again. It turns out, she had a bladder stone that had to be removed. Dr. Whittle performed the surgery and she is finally back to her old self again and out of pain! He did a fantastic job on the cut, btw... it healed up beautifully! If you're looking for a compassionate, truly 'good' person to look out for your animals health, you've found him in Dr. Whittle. - To be clear, I ONLY recommend Dr. Whittle at this office and this review pertains strictly to him. The office staff are 'ok' ...not great but Dr. Whittle is worth the trade off! Be sure to set your appointment with Dr. Whittle only for the best experience. :-) The other thing great about this clinic is that you don't have to worry about being run around or over charged and taken advantage of which is pretty prevalent when it comes to health care with animals since of course, they can't communicate/talk. Had my puppy with skin problem and fever...Dr. Hogan and the staff at Paces Ferry, where not just Kind and Caring... They took the time to find out exactly what was wrong before giving meds.... This is by far the best vet I have ever taken my pup to in the almost 6 years of her life and the four states we have lived in. friendly, clean, inviting. The vets and vet techs are so incredibly kind and pay attention to your pets and treat them as their own. They were so thorough on investigating and treating for the correct thing rather than just listening to owners symptoms and handing over a bottle of pills. Horrible experience with this vet. It has become very obvious that their main concern is money and not the actual animals. They do not communicate with online pharmacies, such as Chewy or 1-800-Pet Meds, making it extremely difficult to get medication unless you purchase it through them (which is very expensive). We switched to Paces Ferry about six months ago after moving to the area. I went to order my dogs flea and heart worn prevention and submitted my order as usual through Chewy. Chewy was not able to get the prescription verification from the vet after multiple attempts. I called Paces Ferry to find out what was happened and they told me they didn't communicate with online pharmacies, and that I had to order through a local pharmacy. I asked what pharmacy had the medicine I needed and they told me Costco. I then went to Costco only to be told five days later they did not sell that medicine anymore. Long story short, my dog ended up being so late on her necessary medicine, due to the lack of effort from Paces Ferry, that we had to completely switch brands and purchase from them. The new brands we had to purchase from them ended up being $190 where as if we had been able to order our original medication through chewy it would be $90-$105. I hate that I am having to write this, because we really like Dr. Whittle, but we are not going to continue visiting this vet. I'm a responsible pet owner doing everything I can to get my dog her medicine and they could care less. I'm not sure if they are getting a cut of the brands they sell or a cut from local pharmacies, but they certainly make it as tough as possible to use anything else. read more

I am very protective of my labradoodle, Henry, and I can honestly say that Paces Ferry Vet has made me feel so comfortable bringing my pup to see them. I'm really glad I found them after moving to the area, and was very sad when I moved out of the area because I wasn't sure I'd be able to use them. However, I am happy to say I am continuing to use them and they are still the best vet I've been to. It's hard to find genuine vets that don't try to take advantage of your love for your pet, but Paces is the real deal. I've only met Dr. Whittle (he's the bomb btw) but I'd be comfortable with any of the docs there. read more

After our experience with Paces Ferry Veterinary Clinic they will now be our primary vet moving forward. Our regular vet was closed the day after Christmas and we needed someone to see our elderly cat who hadn't eaten for 3 days. Even though we weren't an existing client, Paces Ferry gave us an appointment within 2 hours of calling and the service we received from start to finish was exceptional. When you are anxious about your pet, it is important that staff members show both kindness and concern and everyone at Paces Ferry from the receptionist to the tech to the vet demonstrated this in abundance. I really thought we would be saying goodbye to our sweet girl this week but she has made a remarkable recovery due to the treatment she received. They didn't go overboard with testing to try to figure out what the problem was and the vet made herself available to talk to us on the phone the day after when we had some additional questions. Our cat is 17 so we know our time with her is limited. But, when it is time to say our final goodbye, we will be taking her to Paces Ferry who I know will treat her with care and compassion. read more

My Golden Retriever had to have emergency surgery at GVS on Christmas day. It sucked (the situation, not GVS. GVS is world class). We finally got to bring her home on Monday. On Monday evening, well after business hours, I received a call from Dr. Cary at Paces. She saw that my girl was in the hospital (GVS faxed her records to Paces) and wanted to check on her to see how she was doing. Wow, I mean, it's a holiday week, and Dr. Cary still takes the time to call, just to see how my dog is doing. Dr. Cary is just awesome. She really cares about my dog, and, again, treated me like family. Thank you so much for being the best vet EVER, and for exceeding all of my expectations, Dr. Cary! We love you!!! read more

I have been bringing my puppy here since he was 6weeks old. He is now 7months. I picked this place because I wanted the best vet for him I could find. I picked this place based off of reviews and I have honestly been disappointed ever since. Front desk rep is not friendly. I called about 2 weeks ago asking to speak to a doctor just to get a little more informed on flea medication and heat worm preventatives that my puppy is on. Never received a call back from the doctor. Recently this past week I called just because I think my puppy has environmental allergies. So I called to see if they offered anything for them and the rep (who is always very short and uncaring) said she could have the doctor call me to discuss some options. She then calls me back about a hour later and tells me I must make an appointment to discuss allergies. Mind you they are not letting people go inside because of COVID. So you want me to drive up there to talk to you from my car on the phone?I just Don't understand that I will be finding my pet a new vet in the upcoming weeks. read more
