We lucked out with a break in the rainy weather so we could enjoy walking around the Pacific Coast Air Museum to enjoy all of their displays. It was fun talking to all of the volunteers on site about the interesting stories they had about the planes, activities and learning more about the history of the planes on site. The planes aren't open to walk in during rainy weather but are open during certain times of the year so be sure to check that out before you go in case it is something you want to do. They also have some hot dog days if that is of interest to you as well. Many of the planes and helicopters they have on site are in impressive condition and some need some maintenance or a new paint job. It is wonderful to know that our donations go toward maintaining everything on site. All of the volunteers we saw that day were all so friendly and obviously enjoy what they do. As we understand it, they will be relocating in the future so we look forward to returning to the museum for another visit and to see what they do with all of the interesting artifacts they currently have on display. It was fun to see some of the old airplane seats that used to have the ashtrays and sound dials for music in the arm rest. That was a fun memory to reflect on from our flying days from waaaaay back when! Parking was so convenient as it was right outside the entrance. Make sure you check their calendar so you go on days they're open. Please consider making a donation to help the museum continue growing and maintaining everything they have. I actually rather enjoy machinery museums so I made a point to come here. There were so many aircraft and it was really cool because you could get inside a few. What really made this great was we happen to come on a day when they have a bunch of old timers here talking about the planes. They were so friendly and knew so much. It's great to get info from people that actually flew planes, some just like the ones they have here. If you can go on one of those scheduled dates I highly recommend it because they really bring a lot to the experience. If not it's a great chance to check out several styles of aircraft, get some pics, and learn on your own. Make the trip if you're into this sort of thing at all. read more

It's a lovely museum, don't expect fancy but do expect history. Though it is small and they have about 20 aircraft, I had a nice time. Every third Saturday is open cockpit but they only opened a couple during our visit. The volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable. They all served from one time to the next so please thank them for their service. The inside museum has many items available for purchase and a flight simulator that I suggest you try. read more

I honestly stumbled upon this place by accident while planning a family getaway. When we arrived, we were the only group of 7 there in a Wednesday morning. My 4 kids immediately went to the small indoor portion to explore while my mom, sister, husband and I chatted with the docent. He was very friendly and talkative. After we paid our group entrance fee of $30 and made a small donation, we headed out. Holy cow, this place is so fun! My youngest boy was absolutely entranced by the Tug while my oldest got a chance to learn about the planes that helped with 9/11. This place is a very stark, but educational reminder of aviation history as it related to the American military. If you are a plane, movie, or military buff, this is the place for you. My boys loved it and we ended up staying 3 hours without noticing the time flying by! I really hope this place stays open so that more people can see this planes. Some are in disrepair, but with more donations, this museum could really make it's mark in Sonoma County! Be sure to visit the gift shop as well, they are some pull back planes and helicopters that are a blast for kids to play with on the ground! read more

The scenery on the drive up was worth the trip. Forgot how beautiful it is in the North Bay. The airport where the museum is located is also situated in a beautiful area. The museum is on the small side but I think worth the trip if you're a military aircraft enthusiast as I am. Some of the planes are in great shape and some need a bit of TLC. It's hard to get volunteers to work an aviation museum so please be patient with the staff as they do their best to take care of the planes. The staff is friendly. There's a small gift shop to browse around and buy aviation and military related items. Parking is plentiful and free. There are ongoing projects with the museum so I definitely plan on visiting again someday read more

It is located right off the airport and the admission is $10 (free for active and retired military). All of their displayed airplanes are outside, and they have a quite collection. Although I am not a plane maniac, I still enjoyed looking at them. The staff members are nice and informative. They have a small but nice gift shop as well. Looking to see a variety of war planes and helicopters? Look no further than the Pacific Coast Air Museum! The volunteers on staff are so welcoming and very knowledgeable about the vehicles in the lot. You will be given with abundant information about their history. We went on a Thursday which happened to be Hot Dog Thursday (held every first Thursday of the month during the summer months). The walk around the museum seeing the various war planes was enjoyable for our little one, especially when he had a chance to sit on one plane and see inside another plane. The hot dog was tasty and not your regular hot dog...it was definitely quality and the chili was delicious. This is definitely a must see when you're in the Santa Rosa area. read more

One of the first ones to visit here under the scorching smokey heat of the sun this morning. It was totally worth for our lil boy who's in love with planes and history. I just looked for what Tom Cruise used in Top Gun, lol. As you can see, we were not expecting that someone will guide us, and let our boy experience both, actual and simulation. The only time anyone helps you is to point you in the direction of the aircrafts. Which there was more interaction or quirky facts the curator would've engaged in. It is an outside self guided thing so be prepared in the summer to feel like you're in an oven. It would be nice to have a little more shaded spots as there are many planes to see. It is neat to see but unless they expanded and or added new exhibits I don't foresee a repeat trip. read more

I'm a fan of any and all airplane museums no matter the size. This one is especially neat because it is rare to find SR-71s anywhere and this place has a neat piece to one of the coolest planes ever! Sure there are plenty of other Vietnam era planes but the SR-71 is my favorite! The volunteers working here are also super nice, my BF and I arrived about 45minutes before closing and they only charged us for one admission because there really wasn't a whole lot of time. We were super thankful for the discount! The only downfall to this museum would be that I was walking around in sandals and there's a lot of tall dry grass and I kept getting it in my sandal and that was just annoying. read more

This is a great museum and if your an aviation buff and in the area its a must visit. This happened to be a 3rd Saturday and they open the cockpits of select aircraft. I hate to be a spoiler with this one as we are usually fans of this type of museum (our son is an Air Traffic Controller). However, this, in our opinion is a rip-off. Most (many) of the aircraft displays are tired, sorely in lack of even basic maintenance and need much better explanation. Considering the entrance fee one would have thought that much more could be done to make this museum more presentable, attractive and informative. Also, when we entered and had paid our fees, the attendant told us that because it had been raining we might not be able to access (or get closer) to some of the planes - so, why then even charge us or open this museum, Incidentally, the flight simulator has a separate $5.00 fee!! Disappointing and we will not return. read more

The air museum has a large display of WWII aircraft to view as well as a gift shop and a large hangar which can be used for gatherings There is a fighter jet inside and last evening the museum hosted a dinner party in the hangar to commemorate 100 years of scouting in our area. It was raining, there are no doors, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Tables with white cloths, buffet style food, good wines. My only complaint is about lack of bathroom facilities. Many guests were older and porta potties in the rain were difficult, to say the least. An amusing anecdote is that the hangar is the one that an airplane flew through in the movie, "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World." Fun! read more

If you are interested in military aviation then you should check out the Pacific Coast Air Museum! Its criminally underrated in my opinion! They have an excellent collection of aircraft & most of these have been kept in pretty good condition. I also believe they offer an open cockpit day during certain times of the year. The outdoor field which has all of the Pacific Coast Air Museum's aircraft on display, makes use of every available square foot. There are mostly Cold War-Modern aircraft on display here including jets, helicopters, fixed wing prop aircraft, cockpits & a SR-71 Blackbird nose. They have a F-15 Eagle which responded to the 9/11 attacks, a F-14A Tomcat, a F-16N Viper, F-4 Phantom II and an AV-8C Harrier to name a few of my personal favorites! Some of these birds have actually served in wars, like the UH-1H Huey(you can look up many of their aircraft on their website which feature their service records). They have a small indoor exhibit room which contains facts & pictures on Sonoma County aviation history, World War II & other events having to do with local aviation. The staff was very attentive and helpful, some of their volunteers are former military or pilots so feel free to ask questions! There is a small gift store which has many models & toys for the kids as well as some books & dvd's on aircraft. If the woman in your family whether she be your mother/daughter/girlfriend/wife(in my case my ma lol) forces you to go to the Charles M. Schulz Museum a.k.a. the Snoopy Museum then do yourself a favor & check out the Pacific Coast Air Museum while she goes there! Its well worth your time! read more

What a neat museum! this place has got all sorts of old planes lined up in an old section of the airfields. Visitors get to walk through planes of all eras and with all sorts of interesting features. School groups are even allowed to enter the cockpits of some of these planes and see what it would be like to be a pilot! this museum is currently expanding, so a lot of their exhibit space and photos and artifacts were inaccessible at the time of my visit. Also saw a sign indicating that they regularly have "hot dog" days where they serve hot dogs at the museum. This is not a museum that will take up an entire day of your time, but you can definately get at least a good hour in admiring all the old airplanes and learning from the volunteers and staff on hand. read more

I really like this place. It is an underdog museum at its best. It is all outdoors and the day that I arrived was open cockpit day for three aircraft including the F-4. I got to chat with the crew chief that had worked on that very same plane. He told me about the aircraft, being in the military, fighting the North Vietnamese, etc. All very interesting. They also had a Marine Harrier, an F-104, an F-15 and a Huey. All very cool. One guy in particular had tons of very interesting info but he was pulled in too many directions. I wish that he could have taken more time to tell his stories about the aircraft. If I lived nearby, I'd volunteer in a second just to help them out. read more

Awesome place to wander around if you're a military aviation enthusiast. Most of the aircraft are Vietnam era with a smattering of 80's -90's kit. Worth the admission price and if you catch it on a Thursday you get a hotdog, soda, chips, & admission for 5 bucks. read more

This place is super cool and I'm really happy I discovered it online. My son had a blast in the little homemade flight simulator and loved walking around the outside area looking at all of airplanes and helicopters and there is even an airport fire truck. The gift shop is actually pretty reasonably priced and it goes to help a great cause. We will definitely return again. read more

Lots of planes with great detailed information. The staff all seem knowledgeable and passionate. Visiting in the summer, I wasn't fully expecting that we would be walking on dirt/gravel paths in direct sun for over an hour to fully take in the exhibit. I should have brought a hat and water bottle. However the exhibit is not so huge that you couldn't retreat for a break in the shade if you wanted to and they did have a vending machine with, I'm assuming, cold drinks. At the time I went there was quiet a few wasps buzzing around. read more

A gem in the community and a great place to visit with your family. I have zero knowledge of warplanes and was looking for a fun place to visit with my family on a day off and was very pleased with our choice. The volunteers all had stories and are obviously both passionate and knowledgeable, and with their stories these planes really came alive. They have both an outdoor area with planes and descriptions as well as a gift shop that includes displays with stories of local soldiers and their time in the service. Inside they also had a flight simulator, which is not included in the entrance fee but to me seemed very reasonable ($5 for 15 min, etc) and I thought it was work the $5 to take it for a spin! If you're going in the summer, be prepared to walk around outside in the sun a bit. I didn't find it to be an issue but either go late/early in the day or wear a hat to keep comfortable. They don't regularly have planes open but when we were there they happened to be working on one and we were able to take a look inside and sit in the cockpit. Also per their website they have Hot Dog Thursdays every first Thursday of the warmer months where you get lunch included with a discounted ticket price. This sounds like a great time if you happen to have the chance to go! All in all I highly recommend it for a visit, we all had a great time. read more

The wonderful staff of the Pacific Coast Air Museum was very nice. I enjoyed the displays inside. There were many vintage aircraft from several eras outside. I am a WWII documentary filmmaker and my WWII veteran friends were stationed at the nearby Santa Rosa Army Air Field back in 1943 so it was wonderful to visit this museum! I was driving along the highway and luckily saw a small sign for the museum and decided to check it out. I am so glad I did! read more

A nifty museum that mainly displays fighter jets. F-14, F-15, and F-16 fighters were the most impressive (or scariest) planes at the museum. There are no transports and a couple of helicopters. During our visit, their Sikorsky "Choctaw" helicopter was open to climb into. I'm glad it stayed on the ground while I was inside because the cargo hold felt like a flying metal coffin. The aircraft are mostly from the 1970's to 1980's. It took 35 minutes to visit the two dozen aircraft. read more

There are 3 or 4 planes you can climb into and there are half a dozen volunteers on hand to answer questions. Its pretty low key and you're free to wounder around. This great air museum out next to the Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa is a real find and an off-the-beaten-path jewel. In addition to a stunning collection of over 30 historic military aircraft outside, the small interior exhibit space is full of fascinating interactive and informational displays, including large scale models of the USS Intrepid and a Korean era airbase runway, both models complete with dozens of accurate aircraft and equipment in place. There's even an Apollo space suit on display! This is a great place for kids - young and old alike. They also have a great gift shop with lots of toys and aviation souvenirs. I can't wait to come back with friends who are visiting Santa Rosa. read more

Extraordinary find! A first class air museum nestled in a small corner of a rural airport. Spectacular collection that could be the envy of a much larger facility. Never crowded. Often has pilots and air/ground crew veterans giving tours of the various craft. I've personally spent hours chatting with former pilots of F-106s, F-4s, and A-6s while sitting in the cockpit of these machines. This place continues to amaze. A great museum to stop by if you or someone you love loves airplanes. This place has a pretty good collection of airplanes, helicopters, drones and fighter jets. Though they don't have the newest models, it's really cool that you can walk up and touch the planes and look into the cockpit and under the plane where they store bombs. The curator told us that one many weekends they have events where you can sit in the cockpit. It's a small museum and we were the only 2 there when I went so it was also nice and quiet. Tickets were pretty cheap too @ $10. read more
