This year, my birthday was very different from any other year. I had a unique experience, full of excitement and beautiful moments! I've always heard that flying over the ocean and Los Angeles with small planes is a unique experience. I remember talking to my husband about it at a dinner two years ago. He surprised me and booked a flight lesson for my birthday. By the time we arrived, I was full of excitement. I was happy with my husband's selection, one of the best companies for this job, Pacific Skies Aviation. My flight instructor, Julie, was an amazing teacher, fun, experienced, knowledgeable and lovable person. She made this experience unforgettable and unique! Throughout the flight I learned many moves and had time to enjoy views of Los Angeles. I felt safe, at ease with the flight with Julie's support. I told my friends about my flight and Pacific Skies. Thank you for making that day Special!

We just got back from our flight and it was incredible. We wanted to give our son a graduation present that would be an experience and not just a thing like a phone. He had a blast. We were his passengers and Antonio was his instructor. Antonio went over the pre-flight check in and explained everything to our son to make him comfortable before the flight. He was a little nervous, but Antonio put him at ease immediately. We flew over the ocean, the LA Harbor and Long Beach. If you're looking for an incredible experience or want to learn how to fly, this is the place. Thank you Pacific Skies Aviation!

Thank you Saskia for the best customer service in the US. I was able to observe beautiful views of palos verdes and Long Beach. The flight experience was amazing. It is so cool to be able to control the plane. Definitely should be on your bucket list.

So much fun!!! What amazing experience flying with Julie!!! She made my wife and I feel so comfortable, and I actually got to fly the plane! We practiced turns, ascents and descents, and she gave us a sightseeing view all over LA!! Looking forward to doing more lessons, thank you Julie and Pacific Skies!

I got my wife a once in a lifetime flying experience for her 45th birthday. The process wasn't seamless but that was mostly due to lack of follow up on my part. The entire crew was amazing and friendly. The fight was like nothing else either of us have ever done. Our instructor, Saskia was an excellent teacher. She was calm and confident and my wife was totally at ease banking her way around DTLA. After we landed, we got to chatting with the entire staff in the hangar and never wanted to leave. This once in a lifetime experience may have to become a regular event!

Did my first discovery flight and it was SO MUCH FUN!!! Thank you PSA for the amazing flight! Spencer helped me out he was nice and kind i'd love to fly with him again... YOU'RE AWESOME SPENCER!!!!

I recently took to the skies with Pacific Skies Aviation in a Cessna 172 with my instructor Michael as part of their Discovery Flight package. I had always been interested in trying my hand at flying and I immediately started asking a lot of questions. Michael was patient and encouraging throughout the session, not only answering my questions in detail but also demonstrating some more advanced concepts and skills. I felt safe throughout the flight while also feeling like I was given the chance to take the controls in my hands for a portion of the flight. If I ever get around to pursuing my personal pilot's license, I will definitely be looking at reaching out to Michael and Pacific Skies Aviation for lessons.

Pacific Skies Aviation is awesome! I came in with zero experience, and only a basic understanding of what I was getting myself into. Reza was super patient with me, but also made me feel confident that I was doing the right thing. He gave very clear guidance throughout the entire flight. This was a very hands-on experience, and I'm proud to be able to say (brag) that I actually flew an airplane, including take-off and landing. The whole thing was very surreal and I can't recommend it enough.

What an awesome gift idea this was! My girlfriend bought me a 2 hour flying lesson as a Christmas gift, and boy was it an experience! Going into your first lesson not knowing anything about flying would give anyone at least a mild scare. But all that worry quickly dissipated as soon as Jared, our pilot guide, taught us everything step by step. Between all the buttons and the gauges inside of the plane, it can be very intimidating. But Jared managed to teach only the necessary things first so we weren't overwhelmed. You really get the full experience of flying a plane. Everything from taking off to landing is thoroughly taught to you. I would most definitely take more flying lessons here!

My instructor, Jackie Peterson, is exceptional. She earned her B.S. in Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and her knowledge, professionalism, and passion for teaching show in every lesson. She is organized, patient, and thorough. Jackie doesn't just teach you how to fly; she makes sure you understand why you're doing everything, both in the air and during ground instruction. She explains complex concepts clearly and genuinely wants her students to succeed. When I told Jackie my goal was to fly 4-5 days a week so I could earn my private pilot certificate as efficiently as possible, she made it happen. She keeps me on schedule, sends reminders, and has gone out of her way to reserve the Cessna 172 G1000 aircraft for my training whenever possible. That dedication has made a tremendous difference in my progress. I also want to recognize Denise in the front office. She is the backbone of the operation, always friendly, professional, organized, and helpful. Whether I'm calling with a scheduling question or need help with paperwork, Denise handles everything quickly and with a smile. Great customer service like hers makes a huge difference. The entire school is first-class. The aircraft are clean and well maintained, the instructors are knowledgeable and supportive, and the operation is run professionally from top to bottom. Pacific Air is clearly committed to providing a safe, high-quality learning environment. I'm currently working toward my Private Pilot Certificate, and there's no question I'll be staying here for my Instrument Rating and Commercial Pilot Certificate. Choosing Pacific Air has been one of my best decisions. If you're looking for a flight school that truly invests in your success, I wholeheartedly recommend Pacific Air Flight School, Jackie Peterson, and the entire team. You won't be disappointed, and I can't imagine a better place to train.

The process of ordering the one hour demo package was very easy and straightforward. The website was super easy to navigate, and the staff was always super friendly on the phone. We were asked to arrive 15 minutes early to complete complete paperwork and that process went very smoothly. The only issue that we had was parking but since we got there early, we still got there on time. Blake was an amazing instructor and explained everything very thoroughly as well as interactively. I appreciated that he asked my brother about his interest in plains because he was able to incorporate specific topics that chained to my brother's interest in flight school. He was able to answer all of our questions and never felt like he was rushing. The flight itself was great. Blake made it clear that my brother would be able to actually fly and he would step in as needed. We had a one hour flight in Long Beach, where he explained air, flow manipulation, and aerodynamic very well to an understandable level. He was able to effectively communicate all of the factors that make a plane fly without being overwhelming. The aircraft was well kept, clean, and the views were great. We both throughly felt safe the whole duration of the flight, even with the stronger winds. Once we got back, he provided us resources for my brother in case he wanted to pursue flight school, as well as provided us with the foot footage taken during the flight. All in all, my brother and I loved the experience. The website is easy to navigate, the building itself was clean and easy to find, and Blake was the perfect balance of teaching, safety, and making the most of the package. I highly recommend :) thank you again

First discovery flight: unforgettable experience and instructor!!…read more For as long as I can remember, I've been fascinated by aviation. As a kid living abroad, I fondly remember flying home alone for the holidays and being shown the inside of cockpit. I love the feeling of accelerating down a runway, the feeling of rotation, and I love the engineering, mechanics, and aerodynamics that makes planes fly. I always wondered what it would be like to fly a plane, and to perhaps one day become a pilot. A few weeks ago, I was visiting some friends who just moved to LA, and they were both interested in trying it out as well. I called a few schools to see if any could accommodate all 3 of us flying together (we are all under 150lbs) and South Bay aviation went above and beyond by booking us on short notice for what would end up being a truly unforgettable experience.Because I am already interested in becoming a pilot, I purchased a simulator yoke(*) and rudder pedals to get a bit of training in, and my friends and I each flew maybe 5-10h each in the simulator at home. This is not a requirement, as anyone can do a discovery flight regardless of experience, but it was helpful for us as we were able to hit the ground running (or to keep runway heading one might say). I waited a few days to write this review because I have since done 2 other discovery flights (both out of Van Nuys) and wanted to have something to compare this to. Hands down, without a doubt, I would recommend to everyone to book flying here with Maxine, wether it just be for a discovery flight, to train for your PPL, or just to improve your flying skills. If I lived in LA I would be a student at this school. Here's why:Let's talk a bit about the flights first: all 3 of us did a 1 hour discovery flight, but we took a few different routes:I went first, doing a memorable flight over LA including sick views such as Hollywood sign, Griffith Observatory, Dodgers stadium, downtown LA, coast line, and amazingly, a corridor right over LAX that so many pilots dream of flying through. After sight seeing we had a bit of extra time and we did some maneuvers/training, more on this later. The other two flights were over Palos verdes, the coast, the port of Long Beach, and included significantly more time for maneuvers, which brings me to the main reason I am writing this review:Flying with Maxine wasn't just a ton of fun, it was also a masterclass in how to approach education and training. I am a big fan of the Magic School Bus TV show because the children in the show are always the ones figuring out how to do stuff, instead of adults figuring it out for them. From the very beginning during pre-flight check, to taxi, take off, climb, cruise, descent, and landing, Maxine pushed us to learn and improve as much as possible given our very limited experience and short time together. She spent the extra brain cycles to not just keep us safe and entertained (for example pointing out specific points of interest or history of port of Long Beach), but to help us become better pilots in just one short hour. For example, with both other flight schools, the instructor rushed to set up the plane without much explanation as to what was going on, Maxine showed us some of the steps and even had us help push the plane from/to its parking spot! She also showed us how trim actually works, and explained to us the various moving control surfaces. She explained the operation of the stall horn in an unforgettable way. Once on the runway, Maxine let us do the rotation and climb, while giving constant feedback when possible, instead of constantly grabbing controls -something I now know less experienced CFIs tend to do.Having spent a few hours in the simulator, I had a tendency to stare at my instruments instead of the horizon. Maxine clocked this right away and gave me feedback to improve my flying. She also helped us all understand the fundamentals of flight and trim, and once we were comfortable, we even tried some more advanced maneuvers like slow flight, turns around a point, and steep turns. Once again, Maxine evaluated what we were capable of and pushed us to try hard things, and then directly demonstrated specific, more technical maneuvers when we asked to see those. All while flying in one of the most scenic locations in the world! Flying with Maxine was the highlight of my trip to LA. She has a true gift for teaching, a true passion for flying, qualities I will look for wherever I end up training. We all left not only with incredible memories of flying over LAX, the coast, the Hollywood sign, but with a much better understanding of what it takes to be a pilot, and with significantly more confidence in our ability to master the art of flying over time. My only regret is that I don't live in LA, but I will be sure to come back as often as possible for flying lessons with our very own Ms Frizzle! (*) in retrospect a joystick would have been just as good & half the price

Nope still no phone answer and no email response time. not even an automated email back that says, "hey we will get back to you in etc. business days". This was supposed to be a gift for my partner who wants to start flying lessons. If they aren't organized in something simple as Groupon's, how can I trust they'll be organized or fair when he does start aviation school? Also the responses on Groupon's for 1 star reviews are DIABOLICAL. Id recommend contacting Dubois Aviation, they answered in less than a minute and scheduled me in day 1. Benny (the manager) finally responded to my email after this review was posted, which confirms that my previous emails were received and simply ignored. When I asked where I could make a reservation, his response was, "nowhere now." This came across as intentionally dismissive and unprofessional, as if meant to offend rather than resolve anything. This type of attitude is extremely disappointing and inappropriate for someone in a managerial role. Communication like this reflects a lack of respect for customers and a complete absence of customer service. To the owner/management: it's clear that new or returning business is not a priority here. Between the rude communication and the minimal effort to address concerns, the overall experience has been very discouraging. Given the number of negative reviews on Yelp and the BBB, a change in approach and leadership style could significantly improve both customer trust and business success. I chose not to leave a negative review over two years ago out of goodwill, but unfortunately, the same issues persist. I'm grateful to have found another school/business that values professionalism and respectful communication.
