My wife and I moved in here not too long ago and I must say, it's everything the manager said it was. It's very quiet, it's in a great location and the maintenance not only gets done, but gets done at a fast pace.
The apartments are on the smaller side, but what to you expect with Monterey? Prior to relocating down to the Monterey area, my wife and I did our research to find what would be the best all around, and obveously, we decided that it was Pacific Vista Apartments for a number of reasons.
Property: From our understanding, it's the newest built in Monterey, which, by far, is a perk! Most complexes were built in the mid sixties to late seventies and you know what comes with those? The decorum from that era! No, we were not interested in that. Also, with older buildings, you tend to get more issues. My wife and I were looking for a place to relax, not to be frustrated with every single thing that broke down.
Grounds/Landscaping: Have you see this place? It's beautiful! It's so green and colorful and well managed. Shrubs are not overgrown, there are not 'pee' spots all over the grass, turning it that gross yellow, dead color. Moreover, you would never believe that dogs live here! It seems to me that the people who live here are ones that really value where they live. That was something that was super important to my wife and I. I definitely didn't want to be walking around (possibly doing laundry) and find that I had feces on my shoes! The groundsmen seem to really take care of the landscaping, and I will be proud to show this place to my extended family when they visit!
Management: There is one gal in the office there that runs this property and even though she is only in the office there two times a week. She told my wife and I that she is always available through e-mail. She said that since she isn't there in person throughout the week, that she tries her best to make sure that her residents can get in touch with her for whatever reason. Of course, there are many managers that say they are available and never return your phone calls, notes, etc. so I had to try this out. I did send her an e-mail and it was rather late in the evening and what do you know, she replied within ten minutes! That's incredible to say the least! Any time that we have ever went into the office, she always greets us with a smile, a genuine 'how are you' etc and that's very nice to have. I know she must have a lot of work, especially since she is managing over fifty apartments with only two days a week, but she doesn't seem to let that spill over into the management-renter relationship. She always offers me or us a seat to sit and talk, talk about the weather, offers me/us a water, etc. She makes you feel valued. She certainly makes you feel like you belong and she doesn't do other work while you're talking to her. She will stop and sit back and listen and actually engage in the conversation rather like this.
When we first stopped by to these apartments and had a chance to talk to the manager, she asked us where we were looking and gave us a lot of information that was very much appreciated! She told us about the surrounding cities and properties but urged us to go and take a look for ourselves (which we planned to do anyway) but found that she was right! Which only goes to show that she seems to know her surroundings and surrounding properties.
Maintenance: It gets done quickly! About a couple weeks after we moved in, our light went out in our storage area and I had sent her an e-mail about it. Mind you, this was on a day that she wasn't there. I expected to have the work order take a couple of days, but about twently minutes later, I had a knock at my door and it was a maintenance that was there to do that work order! That was fast! I certaintly didn't expect that but was pleasantly surprised by it! The maintenance guy was very friendly and spoke to me as he changed the light. He explained to me out it worked as these are different kind of light bulbs. He was very helpful and made my wife and I very comfortable while he was there. Very nice young man.
Additions: When we toured these apartments, the gal said they would be having a BBQ area as well as a dog park. Interesting, as we haven't heard of any dog park in the area. I imagine it will do great, as there are many folks with dogs here that will surely enjoy it.
Overall, this is a great place to live. They have competative rates for their apartments, but when considering what you're getting for what you pay for, it's a great deal. It's a little smaller than what we would have liked to have, but again, you get what you pay for. I'm glad we decided to go with Pacific Vista Apartments because we are very pleased.
