It left me trying to figure out how people enjoy and rate it so high. Im a noodles girl so I tried the pad kee mao (drunken noodles) and pad Thai. Both were totally flavorless. The pad kee mao was the better of the two but had hardly any noodles, all veggies and fillers. The pad Thai was probably some of the worst I've ever had, extremely dry and bland to where I only had a couple bites and deemed it inedible. I am utterly addicted to this place. Wound up here on accident and I'm so glad I did. The atmosphere is fairly standard and the staff is nice, but it's the food that really stands out. Ordered online for pickup, came in 10 min past when my order was to be ready and was informed it was still being made and would take another 15 mins. Understanding that they seemed busy, I returned in 20 mins and was told to wait ANOTHER 15 mins for my order. This location is in a strip mall of Mission Ave. The sign doesn't light up, but it's right next door to an Asian Market which is easy to see. I was just happy to find something close to my place that is good. The decor is not amazing, but it's clean and the staff is friendly. They are willing to give you their thoughts on the best dishes which I always appreciate. Like most Thai places, you can choose your style of meat which I like. Vegetarian Rolls. Very good deal with 5 rolls for about 5 bucks. They were stuffed with veggies and vermicelli noodles. The dipping sauce was both spicy and sweet which enhanced the rolls. Red Curry (Level 4 spice). You can order it from 1-10, so I went with 4. That was plenty spicy for me. The fresh basil really stood out in this dish and went very well with the coconut milk. We got the beef which was pretty good. A little less tender than I like, but good enough. Andrew See Mee. Mushrooms, bamboo, cabbage zucchini and onions in a really nice sauce. No heat in this dish, but it really went well with the Red Curry dish we also ordered. The noodles were plentiful and really went well with this dish. Pad See Ew. Another good dish but without the heat. Wide rice noodles, egg, broccoli, carrots, chicken and black soy made this dish so tasty. This was one of the better Pad See Ew dishes I've eaten and I really think the black soy was the star of this dish. Three Kings (Level 4 spicy). I was really hoping this dish would be amazing but I kept getting bamboo husks or something so it made me a little less excited to keep eating. The chicken was good, the pork and beef were a bit tough for this dish. The bell peppers stood out for me, and I don't even like them normally. I ate them all. Horrible service!! We eat here all the time and on a busy night we placed a phone order. Went to pick it up 30 minutes after placing our order. My husband waited another hour... Asking multiple times when the food would be ready and they kept saying 10 minutes. Again we order here all the time. They had the audacity to say that phone orders and walk in clients get last priority when it comes to getting their food. We have eaten here multiple times and have never once been told this. The yum squid is my favorite dish! They definitely don't skimp on heat if you ask it to be spicy, and I find that to be really refreshing! Love this place!! It's really hard to find a Lao restaurant in San Diego so I was thrilled to find this little gem! When I go to a Lao place, I am a creature of habit and tend to stick to what I like. So for me, the papaya salad has to be on point and this was exactly how I like it! It was spicy, sweet, salty and sour, the Lao way. I love how it also came with a side of fried pork strips! Yummy!!! I also had drunken noodles, beef larb, chicken wings and sticky rice. My husband and I finally decided to try this Thai Restaurant because it's so close to our house and the reviews are mostly good. It is located in a small plaza off of Mission. There is tons of parking in the parking lot and the restaurant is easy to find. We were greeted upon opening the door and were able to choose where we sat for dinner. They brought us an ice cold pitcher of cucumber infused water and it was delicious! The menus were clean and didn't smell of moldy washcloth like some other restaurants. We ordered the calamari appetizer, pad thai with shrimp and masaman curry with tofu. Both dishes we ordered with a spice level of 6. The calamari was great! I loved the breading around it. It was really crispy and not soggy like some Thai calamari rings. The pad thai and curry were not spicy even though we ordered a level 6. I knew we should have ordered higher based on the reviews but the waitress told me that Thai chilis are unpredictable and we could add more spice with the spice rack instead of not being able to eat food that was too spicy. The pad thai noodles were cooked perfectly with lots of shrimp throughout and the portion was huge. My husband and I both ate some and had half the plate left to take home. The masaman curry was also delicious. I feel like the potatoes and carrots could have been cooked longer. The rice that came with it was not enough so we had to order another side of rice. They also didn't give us extra plates to split the food and we we asked for extra plates the guy only gave us 1. Overall, we would come back again. The prices are the cheapest in the area for Thai for the amount of food you get at dinner. I'm unsure how big the lunch portions are but we will be returning for lunch sometime soon. read more

When my boyfriend and I first pulled up to the restaurant, which is located in a strip mall in Escondido, we were a little skeptical. After all, we drove right by the place the first time because their name wasn't lit up and the neighborhood seemed a little sketchy. But once we were inside, our opinion improved. The place is nicely decorated and the food was pretty good. There were about four other tables when we came in on a Tuesday night around 7 p.m. and by the time we left shortly after 8, we were the only ones left. The waiter was friendly and did a great job of making sure that we had everything we needed. We ordered the spring rolls, pad thai and pud see ew. My boyfriend said that the spring rolls and pad thai were good but I didn't try them. My pud see ew was average. I have a hard time getting the right balance of spice at Thai restaurants and usually end up with either the noodles being too spicy or too bland. Tonight bordered on bland but I suppose that's better than having my mouth on fire. I added some soy sauce and that improved the noodles. Update: We have gotten take out several times now. It's always a noodle dish and usually Drunken Noodles/Pad kee mao. Those dishes deserve 5 stars but every time there's something a little "off" with the details of our order so I haven't lifted the previous rating (3) to a 5 so far. The Short Version: Pork dish is pretty crappy and a bad deal. Spring rolls are so so with weird dipping sauce. Noodle dishes have always been superb, especially the Pad Kee Mao. Water glasses arrived to us pretty filthy. The Long Version: We came here on a whim in search of delicious noodles and tasty-cheap Thai. We ordered a pork dish and drunken noodles (aka pad kee mao) and fried spring rolls. The pork dish was lame. Not quite as pictured on their menu, had a weak salad with ranch? (wtf) composed of shredded carrots and iceberg lettuce. The pork it's self was one Low Quality, Very Fatty, Bone-In Pork Steak for 9 bucks. I didn't think the entree deserved 9 dollars. The pork, when we cut away the insanely fatty parts also tasted a little bit old but not "spoiled" and the flavor of the sauce was pretty good. The menu described it as involving cilantro and showed three little boneless pork steaks. Sooo it was decent but disappointing overall and not like we expected. The drunken noodles were delicious though and keeps my rating at 3 stars instead of 2... I'd give the noodle dish 5 stars on it's own, actually. Oddly, the menu (in the restaurant) on the rice/noodle section listed the options with the usual meats and the last row was something like "tofu / vegetables" so I ordered it "With tofu and vegetables". She probably should have mentioned that it would be an extra $2 for what might have been 1/2 c extra veggies like green beans and cabbage. It is a pet peeve of mine when a waitress doesn't mention up-charges and they're not on the menu. However the dish its self was great. Flakes of, I think, dried garlic on top. Lots of fried egg. The tofu was pretty average, fried and then sliced. Broccoli has been in the dish every time so that must be "regular", which is different from most drunken noodles I've had. We also ordered an appetizer of spring rolls. Nothing to write home about. A touch on the dry side and the "plum sauce" to dip them in was weird and kind of awful tasting. It looked a *lot* like the trader joes Sweet Chili sauce, the orange one in the tall bottle with red pepper flakes in it?? I prefer the kind of thai dipping sauce which is clear and sometimes has little diced up red onion and cucumber, called "turnip sauce" Hard to find on the west coast though. But even that aside, this sauce just didn't taste normal OR good. Hard to describe. Anyway, while we will return, we'll probably never eat in again. The inside was attractive enough, but service was kind of weird and MOST importantly: both of our water glasses were grossly dirty with pale bits floating around in them. :( Would I recommend it? The Panang curry was good but again not amazing. If your craving some good thai you may be happy here, but my advice would be to expand your horizons! The two entrees we got were similar and very good, unless you're real hungry or have 3 or more in your party don't need to order that much food. Ok, I like this place; but on certain days only! The food is really good if the waiter/waitress can send back the order correctly and the cooks can fulfill the orders right. Whenever I order the 3 Kings dish, I get it served differently. It's sooo good but I order it without onions, no beef, and 1 on the spice level. I get it served with extra onions, perhaps 6 on the spice level and extra pork...I tolerate the onions but that spice is crazy! Still yummy though! The banana ice cream desert is the bomb! I had a Restaurant.com certificate (doesn't expire) that I needed to use, but needed to spend $45 or more to save the $25. Today 4 of my friends and I went in. I went to use the Restaurant.com certificate and was told that they were new owners and wouldn't accept it. It wasn't expired. but they said no. Not a problem really, but I am also a small business owner, and I feel that to gain a new customer, they should have honored it.
