A Book Club is also held here, on the third and fourth Thursday of the month. I like coming here to get inspiration from fashion and vintage books, cookbooks and also to pick up a Lego book from the one too many parties we attend.

Randall's Hardware is no different except that it is a part of the Thrifty Link Hardware franchise and usually a family operated and run independant business with support. Having said that it is the only hardware store on Prospect Rd so they've done a good investment and have the market cornered. They are absolute troopers as their hours are long and whatever business they make is well deserved. Randall's carry a complete range of hardware and outdoor supplies and equipment, enough to perform any maintenance jobs in and around the home.

They have a decent range of books, but it's nowhere near the best. They don't have a very big Stephen King section, which always leaves me disappointed. They also have a fair few 'classics' (that I've never heard of) which look very old school and pretty, and there's also a lot of children's books. If you're in the market for something that cheap then I wouldn't suggest visiting this cottage because once you walk in you'll fall in love and will find that it's incredibly easy to rack up a hefty bill. That being said, you really should go! Hard covers and classic favourites are so much better than paperbacks and brand new books. Give me old and vintage any day please! I picked up a tiny volume expecting to exchange two or three dollars for it. Imagine my surprise when the man looked inside the cover (a general peruse I might've done myself before I strutted so confidently to the counter) and demanded I give him fourteen of my dollars. It's not an excessive sum, but I'm trying very hard to watch my money, and books are the main culprit - in my line of business - of bankruptcy. Suffice it to say, the expression my face took on at the announced price remained affixed to that place between forehead and chin for many minutes afterward. I was so shocked I gave the man all my money (having scarcely more than that on my person), and floated, as if in a dream, out of the store. The owners have a nose and knowledge for all kinds of literature so its a great place to go looking for classics or academic books. That's not to say that they don't have a great range of fiction of all sorts, but it's definitely less a hobby bookstore and more a booky bookstore, if that makes sense to anyone... They're also reasonably priced, and really vary their pricings according to size and condition. They range from $4 to $12 for standard books, then more for rarer or older pieces. You never know what you'll come across in here, and I always have to drag myself out because I keep finding more hidden behind the piles. The owners are also happy to come to your house, if you have a reasonable collection of books you're wanting to sell. They were happy to visit us and our 70 or so books, though they only took the good stuff - as expected. And as evidenced by the amount of books in the store, they're only interested in good quality books they can sell. So go in and help them out!

I can't quite put my finger on it but it does have a certain kind of feel once I walk in. The location is good and the burst of the red canopy out the front adds to the effect, as I'm greeted with various plants in a rainbow of colours. But they do add a touch of whimsy as the florist changes the varieties often, so it's different each time I go in there. The frontage is understated and nicely framed by the red canopy as mentioned plus the decorative grape vine, a few hanging baskets on the side and some Yuccas in green pots along the side also. On this particular day there was a clear glass vase of lotus pods on their long stems, which I love as it's a purely architectural part of the plant (and I love architecture)! Dry twig wreaths and no decoration required for the Morticia in me, pretty little gifts randomly placed enabling the visitor to have a search in the garden type treasure hunt. Overall a great florist with a modern twist on arrangements for any occasion and I wish the smell can be bottled for home use!

It wasn't long before I found an age old classics thanks to Kate, owner of this venture. A small chat ensues thanks to her warm disposition. She advised us that this shop will be here for another two years (great news) and that she will also have a small stall at the Alpine Winter Village (happening next week - 7th July). From a quick gander, we were very impressed with the collection of old, new and classics in various genres and disciplines. The prices are very reasonable and Kate is currently offering a 20% discount on your return visit. We will be back again in the very near future, because books of days gone by are continuously making its way into this little space. We thoroughly enjoyed browsing through memory lane, while oohing and aahing at the familiar titles.
