As designated driver, enjoying a zero beverage at Paddy's Old City Pub
Mike R.

Needed a place to briefly hang out for a half hour and we tripped over Paddy's, a small dive bar apparently the inspiration for "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." First, didn't know there are bars you can still smoke in any U.S. city, let alone Philadelphia. (A warning if you don't like smoke.) Second as a designated driver for the evening, tried a nice zero option, Lagunitas Hoppy Refresher. Worth checking out including all the wall memorabilia.

Way better than non-alcoholic beer!

This is the bar that inspired the Paddy's Pub on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. My understanding is that the interior and exterior shots of the bar were all filmed on a studio set. Either way, a cool stop for fans of the show. It's a small but charming dive. Teetotalers and pregnant ladies rejoice, they have an amazing non-alcoholic beverage - Lagunitas Hoppy Refresher. I had no idea this existed but the bartender recommended it. I loved it. It was so good. However, I had to hightail it out of there ASAP since the guy next to me lit up a cigarette (I'm pregnant). The bar allows smoking so just be prepared for that. Located in a great area. Walkable to a lot of sights. Check out Elfreth's Alley nearby.

Cool laid back bar that allows indoor smoking. They have a good sized tv and clean bathroom and the guy working was nice. Large selection of liquor and interesting beers on tap. The guy working the bar was friendly and you can buy shirts!

Old school smoking dive bar. $20 minimum for cc's. Service and conversation was great!! We didn't get any food but people were eating. Stop in grab a drink or 2 and a t shirt.

I absolutely love TV show it's always sunny in Philadelphia. So we're in Philadelphia we had to stop by the inspiration for the TV show Paddy's pub and it was awesome we had a great time I got to park and walk in and have a fun experience at the paddy's pub. I didn't see Frank and Charlie here but I did see some local Philadelphians that I feel could be on the TV show for sure. There's a fun place fun to check out I would definitely recommend going in for a drink

Nothing Fancy. Just a Perfect Bar

It's a Bar. The ambiance of a Irish Bar. Friendly. Smoking Allowed. it's what you would expect from a Bar based on the American TV Show "Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Reasonably priced beers on Tap.

Old school Philly vibes. Had a decent time, great bartenders. Smokey smell was gross I wish they'd fix that

Classic, city locals bar. I only had 15 minutes to have a quick beer, but I wish I could have hung out longer.

I learned later that this restaurant has been around since the early to mid 1900's. Plenty of parking in a large open lot. The place is very large and has one of the longest bars I've seen. The wood is very dark and you can see the chefs cooking over the hearth. They don't take reservations and won't see you until your entire party is there. One of the things I liked for our party of 10 was they had no problems with seating as they also have many large round tables. For mixed drinks, they make them pretty big and potent. For my martini, they sent back an extra glass. They also had great bleu cheese stuffed olives. We ordered onion rings (8 large to an order) and fried zucchini. The onion ring I had was pretty good. I didn't have the fried zucchini but heard it was also pretty good. Other than the light fare items, all dinners come with their salad bar which has both iceberg lettuce and Caesar Salad along with many fixings as well as cheeses and bread. I had the Baked Seafood Platter which came with scallops, shrimp, Clam Casino (without the shell), Maryland crab cake and a small lobster tail for $49.99. My wife had the baked chicken breast which she said was quite dry. The dining area is quite large and reminds me of the restaurants at a casino. Some in our group said it reminds them of Medieval Times due to the dark wood vibe. While I thought it was a bit pricey, I would still come back and try their signature steaks or prime rib.

The salad bar is classic: Caesar salad, iceberg, blue cheese, bacon bits, etc. Meet family here for a fancy night out, and it was a blast. Service was good. Portions are generous, so be prepared for leftovers. We had steak and eggs for breakfast the next day. Big steaks, big baked potatoes, unlimited salad. Come hungry. Good to know: It is a splurge. Also, they won't stay you until the entire party is there. We waited at the bar for everyone to arrive, where one cocktail was more than enough for me. You definitely get your money's worth, and you should not drive afterward. (I did not.)

The first thing I did was head straight for my favorite, Cantillon from Belgium. This visit, I tried their Kriek LG, a fruited lambic made by adding sour cherries to a two-year-old aged lambic. All I can say is... WOW! Tart, complex, refreshing, and dangerously drinkable. If beer could win an Academy Award, this one would be giving an acceptance speech. Now, let's talk food. I ordered the Thai Curry Mussels, and they were absolutely outstanding. The broth was packed with flavor, and the mussels were cooked perfectly. They easily rank in the top five mussel dishes I've ever had, and I've done my research! Pro tip: Don't make the rookie mistake of eating all the bread first. Save some for the end so you can soak up every last drop of that incredible curry broth at the bottom of the bowl. Trust me, you'll thank me later. The service is always excellent. John usually takes care of us in the back, and he consistently makes the experience even better with great recommendations and friendly service. In side is cozy and friendly! If you live in Philly and haven't been here yet, what are you waiting for? Great beer, amazing food, and outstanding service--this place checks every box. Just be warned: one visit and you'll be planning your next trip back before you even leave.

And it was walking distance from my hotel. Indeed their beer selection was impressive and carried Belgian Tripels, ales and IPAs and the elusive Pliney the Elder on tap at $8.50 a pint. I also learned their food menu boasts some well known choices. However, on this lunch visit the grill was out of service; no burgers, steaks, etc. I pivoted to their popular steamed mussels. A sizable pot of plump mussels in their black shells swimming in their liquor and considerable diced garlic and chopped fresh parsley. Delicious. The meal was accompanied by pommes frites and small slices of baguette for sopping. A chilled pint of Elder finished the monk's testament to excellence. Take a break from the cheesesteak and commit to the Monk. Well worth it.

A quick note for first-time visitors: the restaurant has multiple entrances, and I initially arrived at the back door. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful in directing me to the correct entrance. The space has a unique atmosphere. The indoor dining area felt quite dark, but the restaurant appears to have multiple levels, including an upstairs dining area and a bar, which adds to its charm. I started with a cocktail and really enjoyed it. It was fruity, well-balanced, and had just the right amount of alcohol without being overpowering. Based on recommendations, I ordered the burger. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype for me. It could have been cooked better, and overall I wasn't particularly impressed with it. What stood out most was the service. My server was attentive, friendly, and checked in regularly without being intrusive. Overall, The Dandelion offers a pleasant atmosphere, excellent service, and great cocktails. While the burger wasn't a standout for me, I'd be willing to return and try other menu items.
