I've visited a few times now, trying different items in the hopes of finding something good, but everything I've had has been stale. The cake (bites) were very dense and stale. The banana bread muffin was dry and also stale. The PDQ is 10x better when warmed up, but you have to specifically request it. It's possible their to-order cakes are an entirely different experience, but I wouldn't recommend walk-in. read more

I love to support small and local businesses in the city but sadly this one just isn't up to par. I ordered a vintage style cake with yellow frosting well in advance for a Ukrainian party- I even paid 20 extra dollars solely for blue ribbons around the cake. when I went to pick up the cake, there were no ribbons... and the vintage style piping looked nothing as grand as the photo they advertised. 200 dollars later it was a huge let down. Such a cute new Padoca location! Its a tiny space, with a few outdoor and indoor tables and surprisingly quiet on a Saturday morning, given its location between 2nd and 3rd Ave. I tried a PDQ and a honey oat latte. Both were delicious. The PDQ has a nice chewy texture and is a good size for a morning snack. The latte was sweet and strong, didn't need any other sugar. I am giving this 5 stars because it's the only place that I have found (although I'm sure there are others out there) that have the infamous PDQ (pao de quiejo). Brazilian cheesebread is my jam, and this wonderful place has it ready to go not just plain but also in sandwich form. I loved getting the cheese and tomato version. My favorite part is that they have PDQs frozen in a bag! It was so worth it for me to make the haul from FiDi all the way up here and just grab two bags of the frozen ones and take them home. I don't eat them everyday, but it's great to have a little treat on the weekends when I wake up and throw in some fresh mozzarella in them and because they're bake at home, they're definitely fresh! I discovered that during my quarantine escape in Atlanta, I could even have them shipped there! What's not to love, I can get my PDQs anywhere! read more

Came here for the cookies because I had that craving. There are a few different cookies but not much of a selection of pastries. They do have some breakfast items but it is more of a coffee/tea shop. As for the cookies the Chocolate chip is better than the all chocolate cookie. The chocolate chip cookie was moist but had a funny taste to it. Order one of their PDQs (Brazilian cheese bread) if you want a savory baked good, which is my most favorite bread. I work near and this is a wonderful place when you want a local coffee and pastry shop that has gluten free options! They have gluten free almond cookies that are buttery and crumble to perfection. Pao de queijo is a good afternoon snack which is their Brazilian cheese/y gluten free bread. The coffee I was pleasantly surprised at, the taste is nice, not strong at all, not bitter, smooth. They also have a lot of milk alternatives. If you can have gluten they have a lot of other options as well, I have been told their lemon olive cake is really good (they sell it by the loaf!). What a nice find in the Upper East Side. I've been eating Brazilian food for several years now and have visited Rio a few times, but it had never occurred to me to eat a breakfast sandwich made with pão de queijo -- the cheese bread made with tapioca starch they adorably refer to as "PDQ" here. It's so delicious and satisfying, you will quickly forget about the English muffin version. I had it with a very nice tall latte. It hit the spot and was the perfect breakfast to start off a busy day running around town. Additionally, this bakery sells mini cakes and all the festive paraphernalia needed to throw an impromptu celebration for a friend, colleague or paramour in the area: candles, funny cards and simple decorations. The staff was attentive and expedient even when they got extra busy. They kept composed and polite through the mad rush. Their Pão de queijo is pretty good, and it is a real treat to eat a breakfast sandwich off of bread this cheesy and chewy. It is a bit greasy compared to a lot of pão de queijo I have had before, which makes it very heavy compared to an egg sandwich on a plain roll or bagel. Their coffee is ok, but I wouldn't come in just for coffee. Interior is cute and quiet compared to the loud, cramped, and unwelcoming atmosphere's in similar delis in the area, so it's not a bad place to get some work done in a pinch. I think this is a unique bakery in NYC! There aren't many Brazilian bakeries that I know of. They serve pao de quiejo which is the brazilian cheese bread! You can add a filling or have it plain, and they also serve sandwiches with these breads! I ordered the ham and cheese one and it was warmed up and toasty. It was cheesy, tasty and decadent. I also ordered a cardamom latte which I've never seen before which I liked very much. I think it's awesome they have kids books and things for children. I will say the cleanliness of this place is a wee bit questionable as I've seen the section where they keep these foods with little flies and gnats around. They take the food right from the display. PDQ!!! if all of the previous reviews haven't already conveyed it, you need this stuff in your life. i'm not lying when i say that i could eat 5 of these brazilian cheese breads every day for the rest of eternity. although on the smaller side, padoca is a delightful place to get some work done. their wifi and coffee have never failed me (the essentials), and the adorable decor is easy on the eyes when looking up from your computer screen. i don't wanna be too hard on them for not having a bathroom because it's commendable that they favored more seating THAT much, but to be honest that's what keeps me from coming here daily. after all, i ain't going to starbucks and greg's out of sheer preference! read more

The Cheese Bread--"Pao de Queijo"--pronounced (I'm told) pon-gee-kay-jo, is so delicious. Next time, I want to try it heated up a bit. I will post photos of this delicious cheese bread, which looks like a round dinner roll, but has a perfect amount of cheese inside. It's $2.50 +tax= $2.72. This past summer, I had an ice coffee that was very good--along with a coffee cake that was excellent. I had also tried the small pastry with chopped mushrooms inside-very good. During the summer, I had purchased a mini-muffin which was extremely dry. As I was leaving I mentioned it to a fellow behind the counter, who took a guess & said perhaps the mini muffin became dry during the trip from the front display to my seat in the bakery, a few feet away. I politely explained to the fellow that I used to bake & the muffin wouldn't become extremely dry on the short walk from the front of the store to the back. Overall--very good ice coffee & coffee cake, & cheese bread & mushroom pastry. I will go back to try some of the other lovely looking pastries. read more

Brilliant! Who doesn't like Dulce de Leche. And warm milk. Combine them & the owners of Padoca Bakery came up with "Grandma's Milk." $4.50 Just. Order. It. Like a smooth caramel latte, without the caffeine but triple the sugar. :-P I'd like to try their Dulce de Leche French Toast, guava swirl buns, egg & cheese brioche, German pancakes with apple, or gluten free cheese breads (a little smaller than I expected). There's A LOT of delicious looking options, a few packaged gluten free cookies & rice crisps. Also a new weekend brunch menu. Their pre-made sandwiches & salads look like a healthy option also. The bakery uses local Butterfield Milk. The space can seat about 12 people in the back, the front area where you order is fairly spacious. I'm excited about this bakery & hope they so well. I'm afraid that it's a review of Too Good To Go. I was supposed to pick up my order from 3:00 to 3:30, today April 1. Unfortunately, I was 15 minutes late and arrived at 3:45. It was already closed & 2 ladies were cleaning inside the store. I knocked on the door & tried to reach out to them, then one of them soon realized & came to me. I told her that I was so sorry but I was late to have my Too Good To Go. She said, "OK, I'll get it!" very nicely. In a minute, she brought me my order so I thanked her for the help. She told me "It's OK!" with a big beautiful smile. I truly appreciate her kindness & warm-hearted attitude. It's my local bakery & I know there used to be the one on 1 Ave before the pandemic. Padoca Bakery calls itself a creative bakery, and while I don't know exactly what defines a bakery as creative, I do know that one thing that sets them apart is their inclusion of Brazilian pastries among all of their baked goods. While I have tried a couple of their sweet treats, more often than not I end up going for the savory pastries, either the PDQ (pao de queijo, Brazilian cheese bread) or one of the empadinhas. I love PDQ, and the version here is quite good. Of the empadinhas, my favorite is the chicken, but the hearts of palm is also really tasty. The bakery itself has a cute and pleasant seating area, and everyone at the bakery I've interacted with has always been really friendly. In an area populated by lots of chains, it's really nice to have an option for something different. read more
