The noodles are thick and chewy, and the black bean sauce is rich without being too heavy, with just enough sweetness to balance the savory flavor. There's also some meat, veggies, and chili peppers. This is the 3rd Paik's Noodle restaurant I have been to and didn't disappoint. Customer service was friendly and welcoming and I asked which items was the best sellers and they mentioned the garlic soy sauce chicken wings. I wanted to try the viral black bean noodles, and they did not disappoint! Sweet&salty with thick bouncy noodles. Portion sizes are big! A dish that shocked me was the seafood noodle soup. This became my favorite dish. Tons of different seafood, lots of noodles, and a spicy and almost smoky broth. My boyfriend's favorite ended up being the sweet&sour pork. The pork is served on the side which is great for keeping it crunchy. I really enjoyed it as well. The dessert buns were very dense. Served with condensed milk. This place is great for late night foods and they're mostly known for their sweet-and-sour pork and their jajangmeon. The noodles are always good, but this time I tried their seafood soup with rice. For this dish, you just got a bowl of rice and the seafood soup. The soup is very spicy so be warned, but it is very good. I thought it would be similar to a Korean tofu spot, but it's just like a bowl of soup and a side of rice you order on a tablet which is attached to the table. They usually bring out the food pretty fast. This place is attached to a karaoke place, but the restaurant still is kind of its own separate place, but I like coming here because of how late they open and also the Korean comfort foods they have. read more

I learned about Mr. Paik through his shows and have always been curious to try one of his restaurants, so I was excited to finally visit Paik's Noodle in National City. Overall, the food was good and very enjoyable in a light, comforting way. The soup was on the lighter and more bland side, which I actually appreciated, it felt clean and not overly heavy or salty. The noodles were a standout for me. I really loved the chewy texture; they had great bite and definitely elevated the dishes. The black bean noodles were good overall. I've had better black bean sauce elsewhere flavor-wise, but the noodle texture here is better than most places I've tried, so that made a big difference for me. Everything tasted light and not greasy, which I really liked. One thing that really impressed me was the hot chili sauce, so good!!! I loved the strong garlic kick and depth of flavor. It added the perfect punch. The sweet and sour pork was also really good and something I would definitely order again. The ambiance is simple and casual, and the customer service was great, friendly, and attentive. Overall, a solid experience, especially if you appreciate lighter flavors and excellent noodle texture. They forgot our 8pcs dumplings which is why they gave us extras.. its a order then sit establishment so not really a waiter, but they do check up on you/drop off your order. They serve you pickled radish, dishes, cups, napkins& a carafe of water. Utensils, straws, sauces are already on the table. The 1st time they had asked if we got everything I said we haven't got our dumplings, then the girl said she's gonna check but she got side tracked& started talking to another girl that just clocked in& I guess forgot. I literally watched them talk without looking over at me once. &I was seated directly across from the counter. POV in pic. I had to flag down someone else to check& she went to go ask. Then the girl who originally asked was already clocking out, taking her HUGE order togo &walked passed asking "you didn't get your dumplings yet?" Cause no girl, you forgot to check remember? I get it, it's not that ype of establishment, but don't have me give y'all tip& y'all do that. Smh. The Jjamppong had a good spice to it. The Jajangmyeon was a bit too saucy for me it was a bit overwhelming. The dough was a bit tough on the dessert.. I thought it'd be fried instead of baked. But overall, eh. It's okay to try. So glad they opened a Paik's Noodle close to home! I first heard about this spot from an IG blogger--he and his mom raved about the noodles. I never made it out to the Kearny Mesa location since it's a bit of a drive, so I was excited to see this new location just opened (only 5 days ago!). I ordered the spicy seafood bowl with mussels, squid, and pork--and wow, the broth was incredible. Rich, flavorful, with just the right amount of kick. The noodles reminded me of udon, but honestly, even better. My ex got the beef bowl and practically licked the bowl clean--he loved it. My boys had the veggie fried rice and actually ate the veggies, which says a lot! They're usually not fans, but the flavor won them over. Portions were generous and the price was really fair for the amount of food. We'll definitely be back--this place is a must-try! Came here with my wife on a Sunday night around 7pm. We've been to the location on Balboa, so decided to check this out. We ordered the jajangmyeon and sweet and sour pork to go and found out from the cashier that they'd been open for about a month now. There were a few groups inside and plenty of seating. The food quality is still the same as the one in Kearny Mesa, but the seating area isn't as nice, but they gotta work with what limited space they have. With that said, I'd say Paik's Noodle has the best jajangmyeon in SD. I'd come back, but I'd rather do it more for takeout than dining in. read more

Now this was amazing ! Came here with my buddies after work and we each got items that we could share. We started things off with the spicy shrimp, which was my favorite Must try. This spot is known for their noodles so we got the #10. Beef Jjamppong. That beef broth is so amazing so much flavor. Then we tried their wings. We got soy garlic, and sweet and spicy wings. Decided to update my review because I finally got to order (To Go) since my last trip here wasn't a good experience. Nonetheless, the food was so good! I really enjoyed the jajang rice. That was my fav out of the two that I ordered. The egg omelet, rice and jajang was delicious, it was wholesome like comfort food. I also got jjamppong w/noodles, I saved half of the noodles to mix in with the jajang sauce I saved. So I could taste how the jajang is w/noodles and it was great! I loved the smokiness of the soup and the little kick it provided. The seafood was generous and the soup paired well with rice too. I appreciate the separation in packaging, kept everything from getting too soggy and I got to eat it my way. I totally get the hype now, I def will be back for the food. read more

I really love that they opened this place in National City. I came in the evening. No one was in line but had to wait a bit for someone to help us bc their cashier was on a break. Awkward staring at the workers looking at us and not knowing what to do lol. Eventually someone who looked like the owner said someone would be with us. We ordered for to go. We got the jajangmyeon and sweet & sour pork. Waited about 15 to 20 mins. The cashier was very nice and enthusiastic. She told us they just opened up and not too many people know they are there yet. The restaurant is a good size and the cashier area & the menu looked nice, bright & clean. The seating area could use some work. Too many tables and chairs for the small dining area. The tables are a bit too large and it feels cramped especially if all the tables were taken. The dining area could be brightened up to make it more welcoming. Overall the food was really good & flavorful. The jajangmyeon is my current fave. It has been consistent with the couple times we've ordered takeout. read more

Place is new and looks so clean. Used to go here for fries but surprisingly change with a noodle shop. They do have small menu but serve in big portion. I hate giving 1 star reviews for places that just opened, but the problem is the name. If this place called itself a different name and served Korean Chinese food then, cool; BUT... they're under Chef Baek's chain AND... this isn't it. Changes need to be made. It's missing the things I love about this chain. I've eaten at different places of this chain and it's always given me a sense of relief to eat there as the food is good and price is reasonable. It's missing the smokiness (bulmat) and the generosity (jeong). Jjampong: tasted like jalapeño. So sad that the yummy broth was overpowered by jalapeño flavor. The jalapeño needs to go. There were 2 pieces of tiny squid and 2 pieces of mussels. The prices here are more expensive than Convoy and the portions are smaller and ingredients are less. The vegetables are also missing that smoky flavor from the wok. Usually my husband and I can share 1 jjampong and be full, but not here. Tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork): texture was good but that's it. Pork wasn't seasoned enough, sauce was heavy on the vinegar and not enough corn starch was used to thicken it. It was watery. There were sad looking onions and carrots and 1 ear mushroom. Not enough veggies in the sauce. Jajangmyeon: it's like it was scared of what it could become. Flavor was lacking. Had a little smoky flavor but was missing that deep flavor in jajangmyeon. The dishes are edible, and we'll keep coming to try the food again to see if improvements are made since it's hard to find this food in the area so I hope to change my review in the future. If no changes are made, then we'll just make the trek to Convoy. read more
