My friends and I had a wonderful experience initially creating the artwork. The employees we…read moreencountered were more than helpful and accommodating. We were told by staff that our art work would be ready to pickup within two weeks. They also informed us that one person in our group could return to pick up the art for everyone. I want to note, the owner was not present at that time. However, upon returning to pick up mine and my friend's art , I had an unpleasant experience with the owner. The owner was very hostile and combative towards me. She became angry because our group (4) requested separate tickets at the time of purchase. The interaction continued with the owner as things were very disorganized as she struggled to locate our art pieces. She later refused to allow me to pick up the art for my friends. Despite us being told by staff that it's a common practice for one person to pick up art for people in their group. I was required to show physical proof of others in my group. I felt as though I was singled out in this experience and will not be returning to this location.

After driving by a few times on the way to our cabin we decided we needed to stop in before we…read moreheaded home. The sign said closed (they didn't open for another hour) but local artist (and owner!) Scot Mauldin was inside and came out and welcomed us in. Scot gave us a quick overview of what they do there and showed us some of the work that was in progress. This is such an awesome creative space and the artwork was just incredible. We bought a stoneware mug and small barn quilt to bring back to our home in Florida. They are open set hours on the weekends and by appointment Monday-Friday. We will plan for our next trip to stop in and create something with Scot!

Left of Center Art Space is a vibrant co-op gallery and working studio that opened its doors in the…read moreold Woolworth Building in downtown Roanoke in October 2019. They are a collective of artists sharing studio, exhibition and teaching space. Along with their artwork, they also feature guest artists throughout the year. The gallery showcases a variety of artistic forms, including painting, pottery, oil pastel, jewelry, sculpture, and weaving. With a focus on diverse creativity, the space also hosts guest artists who contribute to Roanoke's growing art scene. Visitors to Left of Center Art Space can not only observe the artwork in exhibition there, but can also observe the artists in action and interact with them by asking them questions and experience the artistic process firsthand. They also can engage directly with the creative process by participating in art lessons, paint nights, and art receptions. These activities provide a fun, interactive experience for people of all ages and skill levels. Additionally, the gallery offers custom picture framing services, perfect for preserving personal artworks or showcasing your favorite pieces. When I visited the Art Space all the artists there were very welcoming and hospitable, providing me with much information about the place. It was clear that they loved creating their art and also enjoyed sharing the process, as well as the art itself, with visitors and art enthusiasts who visited the place. I walked around observing the artworks being exhibited and the tags with information about the art and sale price. It was a great opportunity to purchase a reasonably priced artwork to decorate a special space in your house, while also supporting and encouraging the local growing art talent. I would definitely encourage all those reading my review to take the time to visit this Art Space and take advantage of all its has to offer. Mingle with the artists here and watch their artistic creative process firsthand, ask questions, and grow with the experience, for art is the food of our souls and enriches our lives.

We also had the chance to attend family camp last summer, so even my Husband got to experience the camp. It is impossible to write all the wonderful things about this camp. I loved it growing up and my daughters love it as well. It is likely the most talked about experience in our household all year. Camp Alleghany does a wonderful job teaching girls self-esteem, independence, kindness, hard work, and determination. They have a myriad of activities to choose from and it allows girls to have experiences that they may not otherwise. I would highly recommend this camp to any family that is looking for an unforgettable memory for their daughter.
