07.06.25 The Paisley Park Tour - Prince's Former Home
    May A.

His studio, his sanctuary, and--most importantly--his home [Chanhassen MN] Paisley Park is Prince's estate. We booked online for a General Admission tour three weeks in advance. We were only in MN for two days and wanted to make sure that we were able to get in. At first glance the estate looked like a storage building and not very impressive looking (unlike Elvis Presley's Graceland). The surrounding area looks like an industrial park. Before entering the lobby we were given instructions about the tour and told of their strict "no photography or recording device" policy. We were provided these neon colored pouches to keep our phones in and hermetically sealed so that no one except the tour guide at the last part of the tour can unlock it and only during that time we were able to use our phones for photos. We arrived a little early so we were instructed to wait in the lobby. There were some 30 of us in the guided tour. Be punctual because the tour guide ain't got time to waste. We did not have to show our tickets, we just had to provide our names and they checked us off in their database. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and took us to different parts of the estate. During the tour: The main room of the complex is the atrium and is this big, circular-shaped space with smaller rooms surrounding it. Each room represented a different period, album or concept. We watched a short clip in one of the rooms. One of the rooms displayed an outfit he wore... I was shocked to see how small Prince really was, his costumes are so tiny. Prince's pet doves are on the second floor in fancy cages. We toured different parts of his recording studios including the soundstage and we saw his different guitars and instruments including the purple piano, the many costumes, accessories, heel collection, his Bentley, motorcycle, (Purple Rain), and many other artifacts. Studio A was a very impressive 1,500-square-foot recording studio with several isolation rooms. The tour ended with a visit to his nightclub in the NPG Music Club room. There is a small stage where he makes impromptu performances to regular guests visiting the club that evening. Prince is one of the most influential musicians of his generation. Paisley Park is part museum, part recording studio, and part concert hall. It is located about 30 minutes west of downtown Minneapolis. Don't be impressed by the exterior... inside is a whole new world! That's all... Review #3841

I didn't know what to expect but given the steep admission price of $80 with fees I was certain it was not worth it. This was the cheapest of the three tour packages. I have read the stories that Prince's family is doing all it can to squeeze as much money out of his legacy as they can - this certainly was one sign of that! In the end we were pleasantly surprised that it was a good tour but still not worth $80! My relatives live within five miles of this place but we never got around to touring it until our most recent visit to the area. We made a reservation two weeks in advance. When we arrived you had to show your ticket just to park and then they only let a couple in at a time to get the security briefing and to put your phone in a bag so you cannot take pictures during the tour. They do allow you to do so near the end. Our tour guide, a high school teacher, did an excellent job giving the details about Prince, Paisley Park and the stories of the purple one. It was great to see the studios where some of his music was recorded and it was fun to see video clips to showcase his talent. Overall a good tour and not unlike other great talents a story of someone who left us too soon.

So overwhelmingly beautiful. Prince is a master of music. I had tears in my eyes to realize we lost an icon so young I wish we got a little more personal insight like his bedroom or closet. But our guide was exceptional. Highly recommend!! We went to Bunkers per her recommendation and wow it rounded out the day. This is a must do when in Minneapolis

I'm a huge Prince fan, not sure I would of thought anything could go wrong. We did the 90 minute tour. It was perfect time, didn't fell to long or too short and rushed. Our tour guide was amazing. She gave us a very good experience. Even with my love for Prince, I learned things in this tour I never knew. It was amazing to see the clothes he actually wore, the equipment he played on, and hear the stories of things he did in certain rooms. Actually stood in the kitchen where he made pancakes after basketball games! The tour does not allow pictures, BUT they did provide a room at then end which allowed us to take photos. They are very serious about that, they take your phone and lock it in a pouch and unlock it once in the designated area to take photos. Of course there is a gift shop as well to purchase items. I thought the tour was amazing and worth every penny of 75.00!

Kyle was absolutely amazing showing us around Paisley Park. He answered all of our questions, was very patient, enthusiastic, and entertaining at the same time. I am so happy and honored that I was able to tour Paisley Park!! It was an awesome opportunity and definitely would come back again in the future for another tour. May Prince continue to rest in peace. His love for people and music will continue to live on.

A must see place for anyone who is a true Prince fan. And even if you're not. They left everything exactly the way it was "when he left us" as they put it. Amazingly talented and definitely gone far too soon.

I really enjoyed the tour. Our tour guide Bee was fantastic! She was very friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoyed seeing the studios, soundstage and lounge.    My only gripe is we didn't receive our pictures. The kiosk said there may be a 24-hour delay, but over a week went by and we didn't receive anything. I filled out the Contact Us form on the website and didn't hear anything for over a week. I then emailed them from my personal email and received my pictures the next day. Besides that, I had a great experience.

How can any Prince fan visit Minneapolis and not visit Paisley Park? That's wild, that's egregious, that's definitely NOT me! lol. I was in Minneapolis for a conference in October 2024 and knew I wanted to see the beauty of Prince's creativity. Now, Purple Rain was released a few years before I was born, so I'm on the younger side of the fan spectrum BUT, I adore and followed his music prior to his death. I am also a big fan of Vanity 6, so a trip was well worth it. Now in order to visit, you must secure tickets. I did so about 1 month in advance for a Saturday afternoon outing. To my surprise, Paisley Park is not in the immediate Minneapolis area. It is located in an area called Chanhassen. From my hotel which was downtown, it was about a 30 minute ride. Upon arriving, you'll be welcomed by a beautifully maintained property that is secured by tight security. I took a few pictures outside the Prince's signature symbol then headed inside. Upon entering, you'll be greeted by a security guard. Tickets are timestamped and they won't let you in any earlier. He gathered everyone from my time block and gave us a quick orientation on security measures. Among them, we had to fully power off our phone and then lock it into a secure pouch that was provided. This means no photography or video until they tell you it's ok. Talk standing on business and keeping top secret! We were then lead into a waiting room. I purchased a "Paisley Experience" Ticket which includes a 90-minute guided tour. As we sat waiting for the tour guide, we were entertained by the sounds of Prince's music and beautiful artwork as well as photos of Prince and his work. I briefly walked over to see an award he received on a wall just steps outside of the waiting area and was told that was not allowed and that I was to wait for the tour guide. Again, talk about top secret. Finally, the guide arrived and began our tour. The space is immaculate and you could tell that Prince made it special for his comfort and creativity. From the kitchen to his office, everything was interesting. You won't see the entire home as some areas are not apart of the exhibit, but what you do see is great. We walked throughout the premises while the tour guide gave background info and stories. The commentary almost allows you to imagine what it was like when Prince was living there and his accomplishments over time. There were some portions of the exhibit where the guide let us out to explore on our own which I appreciated. We even got a chance to see and stand in his studio which was amazing. It's like you could feel his spirit there. Towards the end, we were released into a soundstage area filled with one of Prince's car, a specialty piano, and costumes from the Purple Rain era. All amazing! Moreover, this is the time in which they'll let you use your phone again. At that point, I was'nt so much interested as a lot of more interesting things I found were in the prior areas, but it was still a nice finale. Shortly after, we concluded the tour in the NPH music club where Prince once held public late-night performances. From there, you can walk into the souvenir shop or exit. The souvenir shop was pretty good. I think they had every album he released available for purchase, along with t-shirts, keychains, and other memorabilia. Alot of things focused on purple rain, which to me was a bit monotonous throughout the tour. I know that's what shot him to stardom, but it was'nt his only hit. He was a real musician and from what I remember, one who stood up for artist's rights. They talk about it a little but I think a bit more could be said. As someone who missed that height in his career, this exhibit was a moment for me to learn about him. I think I got a good chunk but I would've love to know more about his upbringing. I don't think they even mentioned any background on how he developed his show at the super bowl and barely anything was said about his backing bands, these are things I would've loved to learn more about. Nonetheless, it was a good experience and I learned a lot more about him and his impact on the music industry as well as the city of Minneapolis thru the tour. Overall, it was a great tour at a good value. I believe I paid about $80 for my ticket including insurance (optional). My only dislike was the security precautions. Although I understand this was essentially someone's home, I don't quite understand why we can't take pictures until the very end. I'm guessing that flashes or the technology could cause some things to deteriorate. I know Prince was also a bit mysterious, but it's still odd to me that these areas are open to public viewing but now photography. Otherwise, it was a good experience and one I'd return to do again. I highly recommend to anyone, whether fan or not, to visit.

I returned to Minnesota for unfinished business. That unfinished business was going to Paisley Park and having another Juicy Lucy. But let's focus on Paisley Park... I was disappointed. Why you may ask? Let me tell you... When I visit a place like PP I want to learn. I want more information about who Prince was, his upbringing, his family, his career... The Paisley Park tour did not fill this bucket for me. I learnt about his emancipation but not much else. It was really welcome- come walk through his house, look at some memorabilia but the main focus was Purple Rain since it was a week before the 40th anniversary of the movie. I wanted more. The staff were nice and informative. I ask a lot of questions so it was shared with me as a part of their training that they are encouraged that certain topics are not open for discussion so leave anything controversial about Prince or his life at the door. Security was intense! Beware. The gift shop was weak. So much opportunity- so many people visiting. I bought nothing and I love to spend money at gift shops! Too much purple rain and not enough stuff had Paisley Park written on it. Not one postcard for sale. Business finished but low grade work.

I took part in the cheapest tour twice, 1st in 2023 and now again today. Our tour guide (Jess) is a certified Prince fan and was very knowledgeable and answered all questions thoroughly. She was excellent, and made this trip better than my last one. The museum also had added details that weren't there before, so it's good to see it's getting better and better. Would recommend for any Prince fan or any music fan in general

You can go to the cafe and the gift shop even if you do not have a ticket.

If you are a Prince fan, I rececommend the VIP tour. If you are not but curious, I rececommend the coffee shop because its phenomenal coffee. The the VIP tour is two hours and it covers a lot of Prince's life and career. Our tour guide Nnamdi, a local was amazing and very helpful. I have heard the Utilmate Experience is cool because you get more pics and to hold a guitar but most seem to be happy with the VIP experience. They have ample parking but you can use a ride share. The coffee is lovely. Plus they have wheelchairs for use.

If you are a Prince fan and you are in Minnesota, I highly recommend you take the tour. I was here for the USC/Minnesota football game and decided to take the 11:30am VIP tour on a Friday. It was packed, and everyone seemed to love it. The VIP tour will take about 2 hours, and the docent we had knew her stuff. We got there in the nick of time, you will start in a holding area where they will put your mobile phone in locked security bag, so no picture opportunities until near the end. The tour went quickly because it was fascinating and filled with stories and artifacts. I learned a lot about Prince and his music that I did not know, and I consider myself a fan. It ends at a great coffee shop and an extensive gift shop. My favorite part was touring his office and the various recording studios, I was able to assimilate into his brilliant mind/world, amazing!

Finally the grand finale before leaving Minneapolis, visiting Paisley Park! I was super excited about the tour. Make sure you reserve your tickets online. The cost is reasonable considering this is a guided tour. We did the 90min tour, which I felt was long enough. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. It wasn't busy the day we visited, our tour was enjoyable. We learned quite abit about Prince and his musical contributions and more. It as amazing to see the artifacts and just view his property. I'm appreciative that he decide to share his gifts with the world. There was abit of mystery concerning Prince, but its not my place to judge anyone. No cameras are allowed during your tour, they will unlock your bag at the end of tour. Pictures and videos are allowed at the end. You will exit thru the gift shop. I didnt see anything that was different or I just needed. This was a bucketlister for me, and it was well worth the visit! I def recommend if your a Prince fan or just visiting Minn. @glampedlife

Is it ok to bring kids on the tour? Do you have to by a ticket for any age of child?

There are no tickets for children, and if they are young children, I would suggest you not bring them. Paisley Park is an experience for people who are fans, and I don't think you will be able to enjoy the experience if you have young children.

Does anyone know i purchased prince pasley park tickets people I'm giving tickets to id a suprise. Can they get in with ticket with my name on them.? And I wont be there

Yes they can get in. They will just check that the tickets are valid and scan them. They don't check the name of the ticket holder.

Does anyone know if you can purchase a tshirt while at Paisley Park?

Yes, lots of stuff, including shirts, to buy in gift shop at end of tour.

Anytime! The entire tour is indoors.

My cousin, a New York City native, was flying from Italy to New York, but couldn't get to NYC because of huge snowstorm, so she was diverted to Minneapolis (ironic, huh?). She happens to be an art teacher with a masters in Art History. Since she was "stuck" here, she asked if she could visit one of the art museums. She told me later that she thought it was probably going to be a 15 minute trip because "Who would believe that Minneapolis could have any art worth seeing, or at least in any quantity." That 15-minute planned visit took FOUR HOURS. She was impressed with not only the artists that are represented, but the quality of the artist's work that is displayed at the MIA. According to her, many museums have the famous-name artists, but not necessarily their "A" rated works. She raved about the diversity of artists, styles, time periods, etc. and kept calling it a min-version of Metropolitan Museum of Art. I explained to her that the museum is filled with donations from wealthy Minnesotans such as the MacMillans, the Daytons, as well as many corporate companies that are headquartered here such as Target, Medtronic, Ameriprise, Wells Fargo, and US Bank. When she got home, she kept telling me how she couldn't believe that it was free and that we actually parked (for free) right in front of the museum. She also told me that it gave her ideas for lesson plans for the next several months. This story exemplifies what we often take for granted. Minneapolis has several world-class museums and this is definitely in the top five. In addition to the permanent collections, there are always special exhibits (which do cost extra) that travel from museum to museum. For example, the Terracotta Warriors, Silver Treasures from Bergen, Norway, Native Photography, 1890 to Now, Ancient Egyptian Art from the British Museum, and a massive showcase of Impressionist masters that attracted 155,198 visitors. Also impressive is the variety of exhibits, such as Star Wars: The Magic of Myth, Dale Chihuly: Glass Installations 1964-1997, and Royal Bronzes: Cambodian Art of the Divine, which included The Reclining Vishnu: The centerpiece was a monumental, thousand-year-old bronze sculpture of the Hindu god Vishnu, which is considered a Cambodian national treasure. This 7-foot-long figure was reconstructed from fragments for the first time in centuries which too a years-long restoration project.

You won't find this listed very easily on the MN. museums list as it's a private collection and showings are by appointment only. I took a chance and sent an email to Rob Andres; Operations Manager of the collection. He responded right away and was lucky enough to get a time slot. The majority of the huge collection are genuine hand carved beautiful cuckoo clocks dating back decades that were from Germany and made with wood from the Black Foredt. Some have been restored and repaired to bring them back to their glory. They feature many different motifs of animals, instruments and fauna (leaves). The woodwork on these clocks is ornate and extraordinary! The delicate intricate wood work on the cuckoo's is really neat to see. Rob gave a private tour where there were soo many additional non clock items in the collection that were historic and fascinating in nature. There were many exhibits and well worthwhile seeing. Many items brought back memories of time past. It was both fun and enjoyable seeing all the variety of cuckoo clocks in working order. This is truly a one of a kind museum collection. I'm so glad I had the privilege of going here. Rob shares some really unique stories behind the pieces and you'll not see anything like this amazing collection at a museum stateside. I have put only a few pictures of some of the items as I don't want to spoil or giveaway some of the choice masterpieces! You'll have to go see them for yourself! contact@clocksandstuff.org

This by appointment-only museum is a trip back in time. Sometimes called the Cuckoo Clock Museum,…read morethey have tons of beautifully crafted cuckoo clocks but so much more. The old telephones caught my eye as we were here with the Urban Sketching group. When you make an appointment to tour the museum, you will be treated to the history and craftsmanship of the many items. The garage turned museum was a labor of love for Mr Fiorentino and it's a gift to be able to share with many others. On street parking is available. Head to the north loop to check this place out.

It is different experience depending upon the season and what you choose to do. Today I went to their annual pancake breakfast, highlighted with their own maple syrup. They also showed how maple sap is collected (there are plastic tubes running between trees leading to collection bags), to the process of reducing the sap into syrup. They also process Black Walnut and Birch syrup, with tastings of each. At other times, highlights include a three mile drive that loops through the forests, variety of shrubs and plants, sculpture garden, and heads to a farm with a variety of displays. You can also take a narrated shuttle trip. Seasonally, the tulips (40,000 tulip bulbs!), roses, and daffodils are amazing and worth a visit just for that. In addition, there are miles of walking trails, and surprises around every corner. In their library there is even a collection of Nakashima furniture, from a world-famous furniture maker. There is something that will delight every age from toddler to grandparent in this everchanging environment. Tickets are a bit on the expensive side ($20 for 16 and older), but free for under 16 with an adult. If you are going to make multiple visits within a year, you might want to consider membership, which entitles you to unlimited free visits, plus a discount in their gift store. You can apply your paid visit to the cost of an annual membership. Pro-tip: Although they have a cafeteria, it's not their strong suit. I recommend eating before hand, or bring a picnic if the weather is nice and warm.

I was a member of the arboretum many years ago and enjoyed walking here, but on a more recent visit…read moreI noticed (and was reminded of) some significant issues. First of all, for those who do not have a membership or who are from out of town the admission cost is $25 per person (not per car). We had three people in our group so we paid $75 to walk a frozen albeit beautiful landscape, (with some paths not entirely cleared of ice). In the summer it might possibly have been worth that much to spend a day here, when there would have been better access and gardens in bloom. We were "greeted" on our visit by an unpleasant woman at the gate post. She asked if we had been there before and I said a very long time ago. She then informed us of the price per person (and peered into our car...to make sure we weren't hiding anyone?!) and took our money and waved us on. No welcoming utterance or thank you or asking if we had any questions. I asked for a map after she tried to wave us through without any further information and she told us to go to the customer desk because "they have everything" there. We didn't plan on going inside first so that was completely unhelpful. But this woman was done and offered no further help or what we might want to see. There was no one behind us waiting in line so I am not sure why she was so impatient. I thought the park would have the same layout as when we last visited, but it did not. We started walking where we used to walk, only to be stopped by a sign that said walkers were not allowed on the Three Mile Drive (the main route through the park). We turned around and went back towards the beginning of the path, and found out that now there were two options for touring the grounds: the Three Mile Walk (new to us) and the Three Mile Drive. The Three Mile Walk was a rerouted pathway through the park utilizing the sidewalks and attempting to keep walkers away from the road. We walked most of the Three Mile Walk until I ran out of energy (having not eaten breakfast) and we found an old shortcut that we remembered that led back to the visitors center. (Make sure to eat something before walking, as I didn't do!) At the visitors center we discovered the cafe had just closed (it was shortly after 3 pm on a weekday). So we traipsed downstairs to the gift shop and purchased several yummy snacks...and there certainly was a good collection of trail mixes and chocolates.... So I would recommend this park with some reservations. It is a beautiful place to walk but I would not go during the winter unless you decide to become a member. The visitors center also showcases cool artwork, the gift shop is fun to browse, and there is a cafe open during limited hours...but I haven't had good experiences with customer service (outside of the gift shop) and admissions is very pricey without a membership.
