It is not air conditioned so be prepared for a long hot wait. There's an electronic kiosk off to the side where you can get a ticket to wait in the queue. There's three options to chose from on the machine: priority mail, standard mail and stamps etc (it's all in Portuguese). The lines are called by letter and number which pop up on the tv screen behind the counter and are shouted out when people don't come right away. They also indicate what number counter you should approach. It took about an hour to mail a package, nearly 30 mins in line to get a box and then we were pushed out of line to fill out the address and waited in line again to mail it. (The lady only took one customer in between but things move at a snail's speed). The prices for packages seemed quite reasonable. It cost R$15 for their largest box (25cm x 57cm x 36cm) and R$43 to mail 6.6kg to Santa Catarina. They said it would take 5-7 days to get there. Be prepared to wait a while but that's what it takes to get things done around here.

Get an acai as a reward. Should be easy! But alas, t was not. :( And I'm now sitting on my couch eating an apple, CPF-less. However, this process allowed me to check out the postal system in Rio which was pretty neat. You take a number and wait to be called, very orderly. Although there were several folks waiting when we arrived, there were three employees working and everything moved at a brisk pace. My positive review is for the woman who patiently helped us. Although we were able to pay for the CPF at this location, she directed us to another building in Ipanema for the next steps, taking time to write out the address on a piece of paper before sending us on our way.

What to say about MAC?…read more The expectations of going to see the magnificent MAC were peppered with online searches & trying to determine the best angle to photograph this incredible building. When I first caught a glimpse of it, goosebumps ran through my body. The vision & the beauty of this magnificent creation has an immediate effect on you. The purity, the clean lines - what a joy. Now imagine how I felt when I walked into this magnificence & to my horror saw dirty windows, a grey, ugly & loose fitted carpet, an art exhibition that was displayed with no attention to detail - many pictures crooked, weak lighting no guide, poor audio, weak image projection & a walkway painted in red. Perhaps Mr Niemeyer didn't really care how his buildings were used or how they maintained them, or maybe it's the responsibility of whoever runs MAC. Whoever's responsibility it is, they should have it taken away from them because they have no understanding of how to run an art museum and furthermore how to maintain a beautiful building. I was shattered. I felt like someone had hit me in the pit of my stomach & after that I never quite recovered. The view of Rio from MAC is unparalleled. It truly is incredible & as a viewpoint it is not to be missed by tourists & Carioca's alike. Just don't come expecting excellence from the inside of the building. You simply won't find it. I took a lot of photos & I will forever have fond memories of seeing this beauty but the experience for me was like kissing a beautiful woman with bad breath. Its a big letdown. .
