The palace cinema used to be a great place to go, but since then they have made what used to be quite a large screen (for a small town anyway) into two separate ones. When it first had its grand reopening it was really busy but on the first showing it was so hot that most people had to leave, one person even fainted! It was much better before they split the screen up. Now it is much too small to enjoy a film as much.. On the upside, it is cheaper than most of the major cinemas and it doesn't get the new blockbusters too much later than the main ones, but obviously can't show as many at once so doesn't get all of them. The seats are comfortable, drink/food is relatively cheap if you compare it to a normal cinema, but still expensive. read more

So much nicer atmosphere than the big cinemas, lovely, friendly staff - tickets are cheaper too. Comfy seats - back rows refurbished as of October 2008, popcorn, drinks (including glasses of wine) - not the cheapest or they would have got 5 stars. They will reserve seats too which is good for taking a party of children. We have seen most of the newly released films here within a week of the bigger cinemas. They also subscribe to the 'Orange Wednesday' scheme, which makes tickets even cheaper. Lovely old cinema would hate to ever see it go. read more

I went here a lot as a kid, they had a great seedy arcade downstairs, but that is gone. Palace is a marvelous place though, you can have a cup of tea (with saucer) wine, beer or Sundella cola while you watch the the film on the once expensive 'Pullman seats', that's what it's all about really isn't it? read more
