We do not live on the island but make the trek to Flour Bluff H-E-B every Thursday afternoon just to pick up a copy. Every article is written with optimism and journalistic integrity. If only every news source would return to reporting the news instead of being the news. I love the feel of the paper as I read it. It just isn't the same online. I even read the fishing report and sports articles. All are done so well. I love love love the history excerpts. Everything. It deserves 10 stars! Keep up the great work and don't change a thing!

The articles tend to be about local events and personalities, and the party photos are kept to a minimum (two big pluses). I actually find this magazine somewhat useful in determining good contacts/events for the central area of Houston. Another plus - no nasty cosmetic surgery ads!

I am not a fan of this magazine, primarily because it does not appeal to me, but they insist on…read moresending it to me anyway and will not stop despite my requests. They used to be delivered via white fans, which would enter private subdivisions with signs prohibiting soliciting, handbills, etc., and then simply throw their magazines onto our lawns. This was highly agitating, and I'm glad they have stopped doing that. However, their solution now is to use carrier route saturation to have USPS simply put them in everyone's mailboxes. Again, it's better than my lawn, but still poses the problem that I don't want it, and am being told I don't have a choice. No, it's not too much trouble to throw away, but simply another thing I have to pick up and deal with. And it does take up space in my rather small mailbox and sometimes causes other mail pieces to fling out when I open the door. That said, its leadership team is friendly enough in response to my requests, but simply unwilling to help.

Yes people complain about their ads, but their ads are of restaurants that I actually enjoy. Their articles are usually the most ground breaking as far as trendy things to do. Not only do they have a list of the coolest events going on around town, they do some hard-hitting, in-depth reporting on some issues that the major newspaper might not want to get into. These days, the press is generally cutting back on everything, but nothing beats a reporter on the beat, asking difficult questions at City Hall. Since this is a weekly publication, the Press has the opportunity to go more in-depth in some issues that a daily newspaper mightn't want to take on. It's all free! The paper is heavily driven by advertisements, but they tend to be colorful and interesting to read. I wish they had more regular features that seem to have been cut out, like the News of the Weird, or a few more cartoons. I miss Life in Hell! Houston doesn't have a lot of options when it comes to free local news to read, and this is a valuable resource. I suggest you pick one up where ever fine free publications are served. If you're not into the news copy in this free publication, it is always good as a fly swatter or material for papier mache.

From time to time there are some really interesting articles from some cool POVs. My biggest complaint about this thing is the endless adult ads. Yes I understand that a free publication has to pay for itself somehow, but really how many super spas and strip clubs are there?!
