I had a chance to visit the Palais Auersperg to check out the Vienna Residence Orchestra perform an evening concert. The venue itself was pleasant and modest in terms of size. As with most old European venues there are a set of grand staircases that you walk up to the actual concert hall. The room was large enough to seat several hundred people though the chairs weren't particularly comfortable to sit in for several hours. The acoustics were decent though the stage was definitely only fit for a small group like the Residence Orchestra. The performance was clearly geared towards a touristy audience, with obvious standards by Mozart, Strauss etc. being played throughout the night. Typically you don't usually expect to watch a serious concert and hear things like the overture to The Marriage of Figaro or The Blue Danube being played in one show but at least they did a nice job of catering to the audience that seemed to be made up of many tour groups. The orchestra itself was competent though not particularly memorable - thought it was cool to listen to the lead violinist play an actual Stradivarius during the concert. Either way my experience here was good for the most part, even if the bathrooms here are small. Expect longer than usual lines for the ladies room.

Yes, true on Halloween there is always much to see and lots to laugh about. When my children were still small and went from house to house, we passed by a house that topped everything seen before. Honestly spoken, there was a 1.80m witch, I went closer and wanted to look at it a bit more closely. All of a sudden the eyes started glowing red and the witch moved and grabbed my arm. I screemed ... All children around laughed their heads off, but not about the the witch, but me - the mommy... Maybe tonight there is another funny story.... A Halloween party at one of the best traditional locations of Vienna, the castle of Auersperg, at two floors, stunning Halloween decorations, lots of sweets, House and R&B, tickets for 10€... This place always guarantees great events! Happy Halloween!

Dreamy, incredible and full of awe!…read more This gorgeous opera house is everything. We came here for Simon Boccanegra by Giuseppe Verdi. Disclaimer: I'm not heavy into opera or know a whole lot about them. However, this place was a WOW moment. Being in Vienna, the most incredible, historical, full of life, music and character, city in the world - a visit to the Opera House was needed. We are so glad we did! They have all kind of seat selections, balcony, floor and even standing for a more budget friendly approach. Our little balcony section was awesome though it had a heavily blocked view we were able to hear everything so clearly plus we had the little screens where you can follow along with the vocals. It was an unforgettable experience and so worth it if you're in Vienna visiting. You can also book tours and learn all about the history of the opera house which I think would be fascinating to learn.

If you're in Vienna, you definitely have to visit the State Opera House! I've been to opera houses…read morein the U.S., but most of them are relatively new compared to this one. The level of detail here is incredible - every corner feels like a work of art, from the ornate ceilings to the grand staircases. The performance was equally stunning. The orchestra and opera singers were on another level - so powerful and moving that even though I'm not usually into classical music, I loved every minute of it. This was truly an unforgettable experience and one of those bucket-list items you absolutely have to check off when visiting Vienna.

One of the most venerable concert halls to enjoy superb classical music by Mozart and Strauss,…read moreGolden Hall is a must-visit landmark in Vienna. The concerts take place every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday evenings at 8:15 PM, from May to October. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time by calling the box office, or even as late as 20 minutes (cutting it real close) prior to showtime from one of the authorized sellers on the streets near Philharmoniker StraBe (these guys are all dressed in 19th century costumes and lugging what looks like a speaker box, but it's actually a printer to print tickets on the spot)... so, it's legit! A truly enjoyable and entertaining evening with performance by the renowned Vienna Mozart Orchestra in magnificent Baroque period costumes and wigs.

Big mistake buying online 39 euro box seats or "Range Loge" seats marked seats 4,5,or 6 in any side…read more boxes. How Vienna ticket office online can sell these seats at any price to unsuspecting tourists, will remain a mystery. Horrible seats. These particular seats have NO VIEW of the stage. I don't mean obstructed view. NO VIEW. Imagine looking through a key whole in a hot stuffy broom closet with a tiny view of the ceiling spotlights and you'll get a sense of the experience. Now, imagine paying 39 euros for that experience. Though extremely difficult to enjoy due to our seating conditions, I recognize that the opera house itself is gorgeous and the orchestra is excellent.

Not a classical music expert here, but I did recognize a few of the pieces. Fun evening overall…read more It looks like this show caters to tourists, especially the riverboat people (like me), but don't let that stop you from coming. About a dozen musicians, two singers and two dancers. Very entertaining show and it was obvious that all the artists loved what they were doing. We went on a warm day in October, and the room was VERY hot and no air circulation. Big relief to go outside during intermission. No need to dress up for this one, although many did. Nice way to spend an evening - Five stars!

We had dinner and a show at the kursalon. I had a clear soup ravioli, beef in brown sauce and for dessert, strawberry vanilla mouse.we were also served wine and coffee. I would rate dinner as maybe a 3.5 to 4 star. After dinner, we went to another room and for me this is where the magic happen. The 9 piece ensemble of strings, piano, percussion, played classical music composed by Mozart, Strauss, Beethoven in the city they lived and maybe composed masterpieces being played by very talented musicians. To see the Viennese waltz danced by a elegant dancers in Vienna felt perfection to me. The male and female singers where so delightful in their rendition of classical songs. At the Kursalon, I understood what Vienna is about...it's glorious culture of music that spanned centuries is being performed on this stage for the audience to experience it's notes that stirs your emotion. It's spiritual as I felt a connection to the past, transported by the performance on stage. I fell in love with Vienna.
