But I spent most of the day here and enjoyed all the bands. It ran from 12 till 10.30pm. There were two stages so we had choice and we did wander between them. The space was large enough that we could wander about without feeling crowded. Maybe in future years it will get more popular and start feeling crowded but not this year. There were a number of food vans with enough variety to satisfy most, plus two bars. There was a little market which I didn't really check out but I saw others were. The organisers did a fantastic job. There were cute fun 'lady bugs' on stilts dancing around and a group of wise elder types dressed in white and glowing floating through the audience near the stages and around the venue. There were beach balls bouncing around the audience and at one stage later in the evening a number of lovely people with huge platters of cut fruit floated through the audience. What a great touch! The atmosphere was fun and friendly. Such a great vibe! It was located in a park in central St Kilda. Easy to get to and on closing it was orderly. Actually the whole event was peaceful and cruisy. The only thing that concerned me was the toilets. I admit it, I can be a princess. But these were clean and plentiful. Overall a well organised fun event that I'm hoping to go back to next year.

One of the things that I love about Melbourne is how you can randomly stumble upon some really cool…read morebars, at this was one of them. Okay their choice of drinks on tap are really minimal - namely beer and cider. In fact they don't even have any names, they are just referred to as beer and cider. I guess that does deal with the problem of having to stand there for hours trying to work out which beer, or which cider, you actually want - all you do now is stand there for hours trying to decide whether you want beer or cider (which is a pretty easy choice for me - I just go for the beer). The décor is really cool inside, and they even have an upstairs area that opens out onto Barkley St. However the entire upstairs area is generally reserved for the smokers, but if you aren't a smoker then the downstairs area is just as good. I must say though I really like this place and if I'm down in the area again I'll probably pay it a visit.

Most people could cook better in their own kitchen in 5 minutues. It's a bar u go to for a drink and not to eat at. The tall thin blonde haired guy is in one of the local bands that plays there and was a bit rude. The bar is best known for what they serve behind the bar that isn't on the menu.

There has been many a venue change where what is now Red Bennies and I think of all the businesses…read morethat have come through the doors so far Red Bennies has most definitely made the best use of the space. I attended a very exclusive screening of the German music film "Berlin Calling." It was situated upstairs in the main room with all the little stools and poofs pushed together in front of a large projector. The soft lighting and trendy 1920's feel of the venue played out well whilst watching the film. The bar was easily accessible and once the film got underway the fantastic bar staff even offered table service. I think Red Bennies is definitely worth an explore, they host a diverse range of musical acts throughout the week, a regular night being their Burlesque show - one I would very much like to come and see in the future.

Is Red Bennies the kind of place that you would take a first date to? The answer typically would be…read moreNO. It's smutty, crude, mediocre in parts but at the same time it is FUN, FUN, FUN, FUN! Maybe I hadn't lived but I'd never been to a Burlesque show before and didn't really think I would enjoy it so much. Also I was really ill and probably shouldn't have been out anyway. Nevertheless within a couple of acts and a few drinks I was glad I came and had a really great time. I'd highly recommend as a place to go to in a group to enjoy a rather different night out. The music was lots of fun afterwards and most our group was shifting a few shapes to some awesome oldie tunes.

Dont be fooled by the ground floor black "live band, sticky floor" decor. Upstairs your closer to track level, its a train spotters dream. Staff are good, beer and prices fair. We had to buy food because of the current COV-19 trading rules, not the best steak sandwhich the "coles" bun wasnt that good and I had to smear chilli to get some taste out of the steak. The two most recent shows I've been lucky enough to catch here were Mumfors & Sons and Opera Australia, showing the wide variety of acts on offer. As part of The Arts Centre the Myer Music Bowl attracts shows from all over the world as well as traditional elements such as carols by candlelight. With a large capacity there is room for all (and the awesome food trucks that park up on show nights).

The Sidney Myer Music Bowl is a great outdoor venue located in the park across the road from the…read moreNational Gallery of Victoria and the Arts Centre. During the summer it is the location for a number of day festivals playing host to a number of big local and international acts. The building itself is a bowl with ampitheatre seating extending up the hillside. What this means is a good view for all no matter how far you are from the stage. Usually there will be a standing area up front for dancing/moshing and then seating further back. Beyond the structure of the bowl is a grassy area set back on the hillside for again spectacular views. You can hear a festival for miles around so acoustics must be pretty good!

The location of the Centre proved to be quite a challenge to designer Ashton Raggatt McDougall, being situated on post war sloping hills and uneven ground he had to come up with something special in order to achieve acoustic quality. The building seems to be covered in an irregular honeycomb shaped pattern giving it a shell like texture. At night time light escapes through some of these shells and makes for a beautiful structural appearance. The Recital Centre showcases a range of different performances from stage shows to music performances and even has some amazing artwork displayed on level 1. You can organise to have a guided tour of the MRC in which you will be atken throughout the building and can learn all about the design of the performance spaces, appreciate the artwork and explore backstage. The tours will set you back $15 full price and $10 for concession and they last usually about 1 hour, well worth it if you have time and are wanting to explore Melbourne.
