This is something that was specifically excluded from the contract. When they did the clean-up, they ended up blowing away all the mulch we had carefully put down. In subsequent phone calls and emails we tried to rectify this because the invoice they presented included this work. It also included an amount for lawn-mowing on a particular day which, in fact, had not been done. Sadly, this turned into some ugly phone calls in which my husband was insulted by the owner of the company. We were shocked by this behavior. I hired this contractor to clean, re-sand, and seal my pavers for $1,950. After the work was…read morecompleted, I discovered that pavers at the driveway apron were moving and had become a trip hazard. My concern is not simply that an underlying problem may have already existed. With 30 years of experience, he should have warned us before accepting the job that pressure washing and removing the old joint sand could reveal or potentially worsen instability in loose pavers, and that re-sanding and sealing would not correct an underlying base problem. Had we been told this risk existed, we could have paused the project and had the apron evaluated before spending nearly $2,000 on cleaning and sealing. Instead, the work was completed, and we were then told that another $8,000 would be needed for repairs and that there was nothing he could do about it. What has been especially disappointing is the lack of remorse, concern, or even basic acknowledgment that we are now left with loose pavers that present a genuine trip hazard. Rather than showing empathy or trying to help find a reasonable solution, his response has largely focused on explaining why he is not responsible. I am not claiming that he definitively caused the underlying failure, but I believe an experienced professional should have communicated the risk beforehand and shown more concern once the safety issue became apparent. The lack of advance warning, accountability, empathy, and willingness to help has left us extremely disappointed. I will not hire this contractor again.

David was great and patient the entire way through the process. Answered all my questions, concerns, worked around other projects, etc. i never had a reason to think he isn't the right guy for the job, heck, he may still be if I ever learn the backstory. The issue is, I cant get in touch with him now that I am having a slight issue with the driveway. One, that will only get worst if not fixed, I have called numerous times and sent at least 5 messages via Angie's List since roughly July 3rd. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt (sick, out of the country, on vacation, busy season, etc). However, it is almost going on a month and I'm stuck wondering how to proceed as he hasn't responded. Even other contractors dont have anything bad to say about him, but do suggest the driveway wasn't compacted with a "heavy enough" roller. Thus, the cause of the slight indentations in the driveway (have gotten worst since originally typing this). The entire point of paving my driveway was to get rid of those and much, much worst damage that the driveway had. Everything else is great - pitches good, survived the scaring, no damage to my new fence or patio pavers, WAS (before he got all my money) a great communicator, started/finished on time. I am hoping you see this review and resolve the issue so I can leave the review I was going to originally leave (all great comments). To make matters worst you redid a driveway 8 houses down from me and still didn't stop by or leave a note. You probably got the business from the sign you left at our house. I hope you sleep well at night knowing you screwed me and my family out of $3500.. .so much for my 7 year old having a smooth driveway to play basketball on, which is half of the reason I fixed the driveway. We've been working with John and his team for years now. Our previous landscaper was horrible and…read morehad left us feeling burned, so I was wary trying a new landscaper. But the Kohut team instantly put us at ease, and have been fantastic. For starters, they're just a pleasure to work with. They're all friendly but unobtrusive. They're happy to work on their own without ever interacting with you, but they're quick to return a wave or a smile. They also work VERY hard. You are definitely getting value for your dollar here. Furthermore, I TRUST these folks. That previous landscaper I mentioned kept using increasingly-dodgy-looking workers that left us feeling a bit nervous. In sharp contrast, the Kohut workers all come across as intelligent, responsible, and respectable. And the results? In a word, beautiful. When we first moved into our house 15 years or so ago, the yard was a bit of a mess. Now it's among the best in the neighborhood. These guys are not just hard workers: they also have a great eye for layout and design and color. Even more importantly, instead of foisting their vision onto us, they have worked with us to find a design that fits in with OUR vision of how our home should work. In addition, we have some unusual requirements such as a certain attachment to existing flora and an aversion to toxic chemicals, that the Kohut team accepted without batting an eye, and then worked within those restrictions. While we use them primarily as landscapers, their talents extend far beyond that. For instance, we had some cracks forming in our concrete steps, which they repaired seamlessly. (I can't even remember where the cracks were; that's how seamlessly they fixed them.) I've also recently learned that they do snow-plowing as well, and we'll probably take them up on that for heavier snowfalls. I'm sure you could find cheaper landscapers, but I doubt you could find better, and I'm almost certain you won't find better value for the dollar. We've worked with Kohut and Son for years, and we plan to work with them for years to come.

As new homeowners, we had a backyard in serious need of renovation due to some pooling of water, bad grading, poor landscaping, and hardened almost clay soil. We had polled a few local companies but there was a clear reason to choose Kohut. John not only resolved all the issues significantly better than any other option, but they completely revamped both the back and side yard with efficient, effective, and gorgeous landscaping and ingeniously designed a separate area for our dogs to play and use the bathroom without destroying the newly laid sod. Initial phone…read morecall went fine, however I told Jared that we wanted a mow every second week and the lawn cut short and yet guys came every week and cut the grass slightly leaving it long. My son refused to practice soccer in it as his foot kept catching in the grass! I called Jared again and asked him to stop by. Said he would after a 9am meeting in our area. By 2pm he still hadn't made it over and I had to run out, got his voice mail and left message. He never returned my call. The third week the guys came I went outside to explain what we wanted. First guy I approached said he didn't speak English. Second man Carlos (I think his name is) was very nice. I explained every 2nd week and short grass. I also walked with him to certain spots as we needed beds weeded and boxwood trimmed back. One area had small amount of poison ivy. Said he would come back to take care of it another day. Without a call or heads up two guys are outside a week and half later. Not Carlos as expected. When I go outside I see they didn't weed they took a hedge trimmer and cut my plants to the soil! Purple cone flowers. Shasta daisies. Spirea. Catnip. All gone!! My flowering butterfly bush cut back to about a foot and half!! I was left with dirt. Tall ornamental grasses cut down to the ground level and the kicker poison Ivy still there! Horrified I asked what they were doing and was told by both men "I don't speak English"! How does a professional business send men who don't speak the language to a home with the Mom and kids home alone as dad is working? I homeschool. With no means to communicate and late for an appt. I called Jared's phone, he answers and when I start speaking his phone disconnects (this has happened so much my husband has taken over trying to connect with him as he is appalled by the lack of professionalism and the lack of care by sending strange men to our home who can't speak English) I call again and a lady answers. I tell her what happened and that Jared needs to call these guys fast before they destroy the landscaping. I tell her to send him over there to see what they've done. They can't understand me as they don't speak English. Clearly these men are not landscapers and by the state of my bushes when I got back they don't know what trim means. Jared never showed up. Never called. Didn't return my phone calls. The guys left big weeds in beds. It sure what is going on here. Finally my husband called Jared 4 days later. Yup left message. 2 days later Jared leaves me a voice mail. 1 day later shows up here I'm unavailable at that point, my 20 yr old son Speaks with Jared. Jared still has not returned my husbands phone call. I would not recommend this company for service. I didn't feel safe having men on my property who don't speak English as I have no way to communicate with them, when they clearly had no idea what they where doing.

I have never met an owner who was so personally invested in his business and his clients. I tend to be indecisive and impulsive with my design decisions and Jarrod was so patient and kind in helping me achieve my "vision" for our backyard, even when I changed my mind multiple times. It turned out to be a never ending nightmare from the start that left us with pooling water everywhere, mud leaking thru walls and stairs that were falling apart. We hired Classical Pavers to hopefully resolve all our issues, and boy did they deliver. These guys are true landscape engineers! They uprooted the previously installed pavers, flawlessly re-pitched and graded the base, planned for all the possible drainage issues that might come up, and completely cleaned the pavers and property of any remnants of their work. I could not be happier with the professionalism of every level of their services. I would absolutely recommend them, and only use them for any and all future projects.
