There are thousands of paintings and they were beautiful as well. I found the stitch work the most impressive. They look like rugs... These are ginormous and span an entire wall with high ceilings. Each of them tell a story. But the details are what captured me most. Strong reccomendation anyway, to take time for any museum and learn something you never knew. Plus in this museum, you gotta check out the outside view from the second level!

There are other former palaces around it, along with the Church of Santa Chiara. The Palazzo Pandola is now a bed & breakfast, and the Palazzo Pignatelli di Monteleone is possibly a private residence. I found the Obelisk of the Immaculate Virgin to be the most impressive part of it. It's the tallest of the 3 plague spires in the historical center. I found it to be more ornate than the one up the street that is dedicated to Saint Dominic, but both are very impressive. This area is the perfect drop off point if you intend on taking in the local flavor of Spaccanapoli. Start with the church and work your way up. I believe it's a stop on the hop-on hop-off bus tour. You can easily spend at least 4 hours in this area. We even saw local artists in and around the square. It's a happy place to be.

You'll get a great view of it from Largo di San Martino. We were there on a busy Friday morning. Entering Via Benedetto Croce from the Piazza del Gesù Nuovo. It was the perfect way to start this exploration. We walked just a little past the Obelisk of San Domenico Maggiore while checking out the street food items, bakeries, and shops along the way. We visited the ornate Chiesa del Gesù Nuovo after taking in this whole experience. There is also the Santa Chiara Monumental Complex, the Sansevero Chapel, and Chiesa di San Domenico Maggiore that you'll run into along the way. It's not just a steet. It's a cultural & historical local experience that shouldn't be missed. If anything, you can find great souvenirs, street food, and important things (like an ATM).
