I didn't find the Garden but I did find the historical marker that describes the site and the…read morehistory. It is located at the corner of Bradley and Presidents. The marker reads, "The Grotto (D.X. Murphy & Bros., Architects) was dedicated in 1927 as a place for contemplation on St. Joseph Infirmary grounds. Two-story, half-domed, concrete apse is faced on inside with stones and rubble. Modeled on natural grotto at Lourdes, SW France, where Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette Soubirous in 1858." And on the reverse, "Their statues adorned Louisville Grotto. Masonry walls enclose Grotto's Garden. Fourteen arched niches, since filled in, held mosaics of Stations of the Cross, events from end of Jesus' life. Dwane Beckhart painted modern replacements. Named state landmark by Ky. Fort Duffield Park & Historic Site is awesome! I love visiting to hike and walk the trails. B went…read moremountain biking here several times before I had the chance to visit, so he was familiar with the trails and was able to plan a great half day of walking and hiking for us. We had a blast! Plus, we were able to bring Batman (our Frenchie), and he loved it too. Fort Duffield contains the largest earthen Civil War fortress in Kentucky, which is pretty cool to see. It overlooks West Point, which makes for a nice view. We visited in January, when the trees hadn't yet bloomed, so we got a really great view from the overlook. I'm sure when all of the leaves are full the view isn't as clear, but the area is still beautiful. We also walked through the memorial cemetary, which is an awesome preservation of history. If you like visiting historical sites, this one is great. The walking trails are scenic, but still very easy to navigate. And if you prefer a more strenuous hike, you can create one for yourself. We'll definitely be back!

I'm a civil War buff so this place has some meaning and significance to me. The path or road to the…read moretop of the hill is a bit steep. The asphalt road leading up to the fort has been closed off for years. It appears that tree branches and other overgrowth have not been trimmed recently. Since Covid there hasn't been much activity or events which is unfortunate. Although no battles were fought here it was an important site to defend against the possibility of a Confederate attack. It's probably the best preserved earthen fortification of the Civil War that is still intact. A small memorial cemetery is located opposite the fort. The dead, as far as I know, have been reinterred closer to their homes I believe. Disease felled these unfortunate souls rather than bullets.

The facility itself is perfect - clean, spacious and the perfect location to host a family event. We paid a little extra for the A/V package and the podium and microphone came in handy. While we opted to bring in our own speaker, Shawn pointed out the we could use the large tv to login to Youtube and show our uploaded videos (at no extra charge) should we need to. The Kitchen was right off the event space and was perfect for setting up our catered meals. Shawn and his team setup about 12 round tables and 4 rectangle tables (for food and such) and then asked if we need additional.. which we did and he was able to set them up ahead of our start time. All tables/chairs are included with the rental.. which saves time and money! There is an accessible patio right outside the hall that we had access to and some of my family members took advantage of the tables/chairs on the patio. Although we do not host many events in Louisville, if I ever did another I would most definitely use the Sawyer Hayes community center, without hesitation. If your local to the area or need a space ... I highly recommend this place - trust me you will not regret it!

With that said the property is now a park setting. While visiting on several occasions of the beautiful grounds to observe wildlife and evening walks and a occasional quite picnic lunch. The community center is now the main Operation's for many occasions. More information can be found by calling administrators. As for the park grounds, There is a small pavilion picnic area on the eastern portion with indoor restroom facilities. I enjoy visiting at sunset to watch the sky, wildlife as well as a walk. Calm and quite area. To watch a beautiful and tranquil sunset view I highly recommend.

Located next to a large gazebo area in the back of the park towards the old cemetery it is always cool seeing war monuments and history on display. A public kids park is a cool way to add a little history for our youth. Overall cool monument at a fun park that I would recommend anyone in the area check out. Lots or see and do in that small area to waste a few hours for some fun or relaxing times.

My first visit was right before the Pandemic stuck in 2020. I had visited Union 15 first. Being a pizza lover I had to give it a shot. It is good pizza but, the garlic knots are probably the best thing there. I like that they have many local beers on tap. I remember talking the person behind the bar and how he looked forward to this place growing w/ Iroquois park across the street and the events that take place there during the summer. I went back again for the shuttle pick up for Tailspin last year and this year. Then Covid happened and I hadn't made my way back until Tailspin this year for the shuttle pick up. I definitely recommend Union 15 if you're a pizza lover and beer lover, especially local beer. There is also a Taco Luchador, I hadn't been to this location but have been to their Baxter Ave location. Biscuit Belly and B.A. Colonial I haven't been to either places but, plan on making it to those places someday. Overall I'm really impressed with how Colonial Gardens has turned out. I hope they continue to grow and do great things. These businesses have survived a pandemic in which most places are still trying to bounce back or have closed. Definitely a great place to support local businesses if you're in the area or at an event at Iroquois park. Two thumbs up on Colonial Gardens.

Really cool concept to help build the south end for the future. Colonial Gardens was considered a…read morehistoric area already but has been basically deserted for several years. So they have rebuilt it into a venue that will be the home for a handful of new and exciting food establishments and pubs. They currently have a pizza joint called "union 15" and the rapidly growing Taco Luchador. Per the website they are expecting to add a breakfast restaurant called "biscuit belly". Which currently has one location in Nulu that is very popular and tasty. They have done an incredible job of adding unique artwork and designs while paying homage to the south end area. One of my favorite things (or will be) about this project is all the restaurants and pubs will share an open beer garden. Which is a really cool concept. Major kudos and props to the brains and designers of this project. I think it will have a huge positive impact on the south end of Louisville.

Village horse is a sculpture horse in the same vein as the gallopalooza designed horses that are…read morespeed throughout the city of Louisville that sits in the medium of a round about in poplar east end of Lousiville Shopping center Westport village. Very striking and visually appeasing statue surrounded by nice Shrubbery and garden work. Very well landscaped and sticks out vividly in the complex. While it resembles the famed gallopalooza gorse series I believe this horse sculpture stands on its own. It does not feature the unique hand painted qualities of the gallopalooza horses and there is actually another for sure gallopalooza horse sculpture on the shopping complex property. Either way it is really well designed and looks great. Makes for a nice piece of public art and offers up some wonderful photo opportunities.
