My new favorite cafe. I can't believe I didn't know about this place. Palmer's came up on a search for Bend's best breakfast, but the internet said it was closed on Tuesdays even though it was open. We entered a mostly empty cafe and thought "this can't be good...". On the contrary, the service was prompt, friendly and professional. The cafe was clean and orderly. The food was even better. Indeed, the best breakfast in Bend. The menu is somewhat limited, but they make up for it in quality and freshness and accommodate special requests. By the time we finished, the cafe was full, as Bend typically runs later than we do. We left a generous tip for our deserving waitress. We will definitely be back. read more

The workers were very friendly, the place was clean but there's not a lot of seating. We thought the food was pretty good. I had just a standard breakfast of eggs, toast, hash browns and bacon. We have been coming up here for years and somehow had no idea this secret gem of a place existed. The service was phenomenal, the portions were HUGE. Amazing experience! the staff were super friendly and accommodating. They quickly seated us despite being a party of 10 on a Holiday weekend. Both Servers were incredibly friendly and attentive when it came to refilling coffees around the table. Food was phenomenal, I don't think anybody had any complaints about anything that was ordered and everything looked amazing. Portion sizes are huge. I had the chicken fried steak, which I highly recommend. Eggs were scrambled perfectly, being light and fluffy. The fry was nice and crisp despite being covered in gravy. The food was solid diner fare. Nothing fancy but the coffee was good and the omelet I got was well cooked even if the seasoning was a little on the bland side. The restaurant itself is simple and tucked in next to what looks like a bargain hotel. It's clean and subtlety decorated. The server was nice and friendly. We were in Bend for less than 24 hrs and were looking for a breakfast spot before heading out of town. The reviews of Palmer's brought us here. I am glad that happened. I had the Sparks Lake Omelette. The corned beef was flavorful and tender. Corned beef is risky in that it could be chewy. Not here. The potatoes looked dry and plain. Wrong. They were silly flavorful. Their biscuits are huge and tasty. And an important detail, the butter for the biscuit wasn't frozen solid. It was spreadable! This may seem like a small thing to cite, but I can't stand it when I am served rock solid butter in the metal wrapper. The serving staff were friendly and attentive. Some of the cons. The parking lot is small and it shares parking with their small hotel. So, try to arrive in one vehicle or walk here. The restaurant has limited seating too. Food was subpar and expensive for what you get. The service was decent but nothing special. Palmers of years back was great now it's just a basic cafe with food that is just blah. I had the country fried steak and gravy eggs with potatoes. The wife had a flavorless biscuit benedict with ham and gravy. The country steak was thin and obviously from frozen. Gravy on both was a non traditional brownish creamy type stuff that wasn't flavorful at all. I did order a side of bacon (3 pcs) and wife had a hot coffee cocktail. A Bend institution that was recently remodeled. - Biscuits and gravy: OK but no more than that. The biscuits were a bit dry, tasteless and the gravy not much better, although you can add some seasoning to help. A two-biscuit order is a huge amount of food. You'll think you mistakenly went to Jake's instead of Palmer's. - Pancakes: Solid. Upon walking into this establishment I was merely whelmed by the atmosphere. However, the friendly staff and outgoing owner made Palmers Cafe feel more like grandma's kitchen than a cafeteria. Paper menus were used along with an enticing cocktail menu (at 6:30 am too!) but the napkins were cloth... The food was sublime. I had eggs Benedict which were among the best I've ever consumed, and the omelette was "the best ever". Better now than our previous experiences before the renovation and ownership changes. Unfortunately the service was better than the food the last time we visited. The greeting and layout when first walking in is a bit confusing and awkward. Once seated everything and everyone was fine. The breakfast fair is fairly "traditional" in it's preparation, presentation, and distribution. Come here if you're looking for standard fair breakfast but if you're looking for creativity keep looking. Breakfast seems to be one of those meals that traditional is just as popular as artistic so know what you're looking for and make your decision. Went to this place on a Sunday morning for breakfast Expected to wait the 20 or so minutes so no problem there but service was horrible. When we questioned why, the waitress said well you were unhappy when you came in so I just didn't bother bringing you a second cup of coffee or make sure you got the meal as ordered. Palmers really is Bends best kept secret. If you just drove by, you probably wouldn't think to stop since it's connected to the motel. We came in right around 9am on a Saturday and we're sat right away at the small bar top. A waiting list started pretty quick after we got there and there were several groups waiting outside at 10 when we left, so come early! The staff were all friendly and helpful. The prices and portions were great. We had a screw driver and Bloody Mary, no complaints. The Palmers scramble was delicious. Biscuits and gravy, two biscuits portion since we split. My boyfriend loves it but for me it was meh. No sausage, it's just a white gravy. Not enough seasoning, I added a good amount of salt and better. To start, we were told to find a seat and were handed menus to take with us which is fine. It took about 10 minutes for someone to come take our drink order and another 10 minutes to get our drinks. We watched other tables get seated, waited, waited, watched more tables get seated, watched those tables that got seated after us get their food. Then a second table that was seated after us was given their food and FINALLY the cook came over to us to tell us that the server forgot to put our order in but it is being cooked above everyone else's. Okay great. Then the server comes over NOT to apologize or anything but to make sure we knew that the cook may have said she forgot to put in our order but what really happened is the ticket got "lost in translation". Only came over to save her ass and DIDN'T EVEN APOLOGIZE! We waited 55 minutes for our food. A man walked in who I am assuming is the owner and also the servers dad and not once did he come to try to make anything right. No big apology, no discounted check, not a "have a great day" as we walked out or anything. The food was great but the service was extremely terrible. We travelled from California to come to bend and visit and picked Palmers cafe because it looked like a cute little family owned restaurant, we weren't expecting to have our day ruined right at the start. We have lived here over 45 years and loved the old cafe. Our first time back since the extensive remodel, and what a disappointment. The many hard surfaces cause all the sound to bounce around making it noisy, so much so it's hard to even talk to the people sitting at your table. The music blasting in the kitchen carries throughout the place. The food was cold and over priced. Coffee was hot, service people were friendly, but constantly said "you guys" when referring to us. The chicken fry on the steak wasn't a crispy flaky crust which I prefer but the gravy tasted amazing and made the difference. I found this place on Yelp when working in Bend. It's tucked away and part of a little motel. But don't let that deceive you. It is heavily trafficked cafe with fresh food! I met the owner and he explained how he uses the motel to help people. It made me want to frequent this café even more. Ive gone back several times and always order the Mediterranean scramble with a side of fruit. The fruit is not the canned fruit you would expect, but fresh strawberries, blackberries and blueberries. The scramble is fresh with spinach and olives and onions, etc. It makes me so happy to be able to eat such fresh ingredients and know that the owner is helping people. Well, the new owners messed this place up something fierce. Palmers used to be our favorite spot to eat breakfast in Bend, but after the food this morning, we probably won't be back. We ordered takeout, so I added a star because the staff member who met me at the front door was very friendly and polite. I got home with our breakfast, and that's where the disappointment began. Driving around while there's a bunch of snow on the ground definitely has its hazards but the positive is that the place here is all but empty. The lot was practically empty and I just walked in where I was the second table. For some reason on this trip I wanted a great breakfast burrito and Palmer's came up on the search. The number 16 was just as described: huge, crammed with meats, potatoes and had three huge tubs of guac, sour cream and salsa. The tortilla was toasted and a little crumbly. I basically dunked my burrito into each tub before eating it-and there was no one there to judge me. Service was a little slow, which was understandable since it was practically dead since the whole town was shut down but it was really friendly.
