We had a lovely evening in some nice soft light and spent most of the time enjoying the delicious drinks then walking home since the place wasn't very far from downtown where we were staying. Thankfully the hubs and I had reservations for dinner because this place was packed with diners wanting to see if they could be squeezed in. We started with the sampler of chips and salsa. We had four different salsas with house made chips. They were so good, we went through two baskets. The hubs got the crispy fish tacos - crispy and a very, very good fish taco. I went with the mushroom sopecitos that were slightly crispy but soft masa topped with delicious roasted mushrooms and black beans. They are a smaller dish so I was glad to have the chips and salsa to round things out. Service was friendly and overall we had a really great dinner. read more

This place never disappoints! I make a point to come to this restaurant every time I'm in Santa Fe. I at least eat here 2 to 3 times while I'm in town. My favorite dishes are the ceviche and fish tacos. I always sit at the bar and the bartenders couldn't be more lovely and engaging. read more

The evening started with slow service as the restaurant was full. We were seated at 1806 and did nit get drinks ordered until 1820. The water was brought without ice and I had to order a glass with ice. When it arrived the waiter did not take the extra glass iff the table as she should. The chips and salsa arrived 4 minutes after placing the order. The three salsas were flavorful and varied. In fact the meal was very flavorful and of good quality. The alcoholic drinks arrived at 1837 so a full 31 minutes after arriving at the table. Most restaurants strive for much faster turns. The side dish Brussels sprouts arrived at 1843 with the main courses at 1844. At 1846 our waitress attended to the table on our right and did not ask how we were doing. My ice had fully melted and she could have refilled it. At 1850 we waved her down and she brought a refilled glass and failed to take the empty. It is now 1905 and we have not been asked once if we would like another drink. We are calling it a night and heading back to the Inn of the Anasazi where the service is impeccable. Cannot recommend this restaurant because of the service. read more

Giving it 4 stars for the food but 2 star for service. Not sure if they were short staffed or just didn't know how to manage all the tables. We got the salsa appetizer to start. The chips were so fresh and had the perfect corn flavor. Most of the salsas were medium to hot spicy. The chips were continuously refilled which was great but we definitely filled up way too much on the app. The fries were a perfect crisp and the sauce drizzled on top gave them a southwest kick. Can't believe I didn't post this when I was in Santa Fe over a long weekend in July. We originally planned to go to another place; were in the area early and thought just a drink and a bite to hold us over, but when we stepped in and it smelled delicious so we decided to stay for dinner. Had a michelada verde to start. Delish and so refreshing and the combo of frosty salty green spicy was life-giving. We shared everything - salad mixto, mushroom sopecitos, and one more dish I'm blanking on. I remember liking everything, though, and leaving very full. Service was friendly and informative, and they accommodated a request to put raw/pickled onion on the side for my friend. Restaurant is located near the the train station. Found that Santa Fe can be pretty walkable if I pace myself, wear the right things, carry cold water and a bandana, try to walk by the river or on tree-lined streets, and walk in the morning and evening. Helps to get lots of iced drinks (Sky Coffee is nearby) and some ice cream (La Lecheria). Def 4+ experience. Would go again. read more

Possibly our favorite restaurant in Santa Fe, Paloma Restaurant has a fun and lively energy (which is not done justice by the pictures) and absolutely delicious food. The cuisine is Mexican, and yet the dishes feel light and fresh with unique combinations of ingredients and flavors. We started with the House-Made Salsas and Chips, which came with four options of salsa that were fun to sample and try. We then split the Mixta Salad with braised beets, grapefruit, pickled onion, and puffed amaranth as well as the Crispy Fish Tacos with sea bass, jalapeno slaw, and chipotle mayo. The salad was light, citrusy and had ample beets and toppings. We resisted from scooping up the dressing with our tacos as it was very tasty. The tacos were also delicious, with uber fresh fish that you don't always expect in a fried fish taco. Memorable food in a fun setting! read more

While the food was delicious, the hostess very clearly sized my partner and I up when we came in (we're young and mixed race, which was our only guess for why she treated us differently than folks that came in after us) and was incredibly rude to us. It was a Thursday, early evening, and she fussed about finding us a table (it was not busy at all) and told us we had to be out in an hour for a reservation (there were PLENTY of other tables available). We took it very nicely because we had a movie to see nearby, and it was too late to go elsewhere. Our waiter was lovely. The food was great, but that hostess was really exceptionally awful for Santa Fe. Will not be returning. read more

The menu looked delicious- the ambiance of the patio was beautiful and colorful. We ordered two orders of the fajitas, a side of rice and beans, pepita salad, and the short ribs. The presentation was lovely unfortunately the simplest components of rice beans both fell short. The beans were intolerably salty and the rice was undercooked. I am really into beans and a good bean goes a long way. The fajitas were were tasty, the steak was tender. The papita salad was delicious, fresh and light. The short ribs had good flavor with a tasty addition pablano peppers and green beans. We sprung for the churros at the last minute and they were steaming hot and light on the outside. Overall the patio and ambiance are lovely. It is dog friendly too. There are gf, vegetarian and vegan options. Staff was all friendly. Went on a dinner date with my friend and we had such a good time! Definitely make a reservation because the dining room is small and fills up quick. They recommended ordering a few dishes to share, which is what we did. Each dish was delicious but the highlight was the mushroom sopecitos! They make their own masa and mezcal in house so be sure to order ones of the dishes from the nixtamal section. Service can be a little slow, but all of their staff was so friendly! read more

Everything about Palmoma was outstanding, well maybe the location is not all that special, but the food, drinks and service makes it well worth it. We had the Cerviche for a shared appetizer, then one of us had a couple of appetizers for dinner. Ceviche was excellent. I had the Short Ribs, and they were delicious and tender, plus the corn/beans that came with it were a novel dish that was also really good. The tequila selection was intimidating, but the waiter made some great recommendations and we expanded our tequila palette. read more

We found this place on a friend's recommendation, and it was ok. We began with the beet and melon aquachile. It was a watermelon and beet, with pickled onion and basil, and was a wonderful appetizer to cleanse the palate. Paloma's bar is mezcal-and tequila focused . I had the waiter suggest a flight. I am a tequila drinker, but not very versed in mezcal or solotl. The waiter did an excellent job at finding me a good variety, which I really enjoyed. I highly suggest the flights! For food, the squash blossoms left something to be desired. They did not have the cauliflower tacos, which is what we came to get. My friend did have the Cauliflower Sope, and it was very enjoyable. Incredible meal! The drinks, from cocktails to mezcal, tequila, sotol to a variety of agave non mezcal type derivatives just very detailed and well balanced. The waiter was spot on with his recommendations. I had the Buffalo Burria. With roasted carrots. Both had so much flavor. Everyone around us was talking to our family. From the mushroom quesadillas made with blue corn tortillas and fresh huitlacoche to the sea bass tacos to the Spanish blossom emmoladas to the honey apricot & olive oil cake, this was the best restaurant meal I've had in 2020. I wonder if it will be my last great meal this year? The streets of Santa Fe were mostly barren today. (Cue the tumbleweed.) It felt like the Twilight Zone as the pandemic looks like it will push us back again into our proverbial shells. I hope Paloma survives because this is a special place. I highly recommend coming here for authentic Oaxacan Mexican food. The food is delicious. My favorites are the sea bass and the steak fajitas. Since Paloma was so frequently occurring on every must visit article for Santa-Fe ,I had reserved them even before we went to New Mexico. In retrospect the reservation massively helped as the restaurant was full by the time we arrived. The place is modern yet very Mexican inspired just like the menu -Oaxacan textiles and art, elegant light fixtures and a bar that draws your attention in the otherwise dimly lit restaurant. Paloma's bar is mezcal-focused with a big selection of agave based cocktails as well as classic cocktails, beer, and wine. We started of with a Mezcal and a classic Paloma. For food we ordered - Cauliflower Tacos - If there is only one thing you can eat here , make it this . The cauliflower, almonds and olive combination was nothing like I have ever tasted before . The sauce on the tacos complimented all the flavors so well. Ceviche - Regular run-of-the- mill stuff. The blue corn tortillas even though we only got a couple pieces tasted bomb. Chicken en Mole 32 - This is adobo roasted chicken with sweet corn torta, string bean salad and mole Amarillo. Tasted just average Churros - The Churros came out pipping hot and were gone within 5 minutes. Totally delicious! The service was lacking and they hardly checked up on us . we had to flag our server for drinks or food every time without fail . Our server when available , was knowledgeable and had a good understanding of the mezcal and the drinks in general . I feel in a sea of great food places like Santa Fe , Paloma did not stand out for me . read more

June 8, 2023 - Paloma Mexican Restaurant (Sante Fe, NM) We were here a couple years ago, and loved it. This time around, the experience was not nearly as great. We had pluses and minuses. We arrived 15 minutes before our reservation, so we were happy that they could seat us right away. They don't open until 5, so the restaurant was pretty empty. The ambiance was average. Actually a little noisy when the place started to fill up. We were a little curious about where they seated us. There were plenty of seats in the main dining area; however, they seated us next to the service door in a row of two-seat tables that were practically on top of one another on the bar side of the restaurant. They gave us water and food and drink menus immediately. We sat at our table for about five minutes before a waitress came over to say hi, but in a bit of a dismissive way. Kind of like I'm here to help you but don't expect anything special. See you when I see you kind of attitude. She didn't give us her name, which I later saw on the receipt (I won't call her out). We were planning to do tequila fights, but we really weren't sure what we wanted. There are at least 80 to choose from. When the waitress came back, we told her we wanted to do a couple flights, but weren't sure what to get. She gave us a few recommendations and then walked away as we continued to think it over. About 5+ minutes later, a little longer than we expected, she showed up again. We told her we would go with her recommendations for one tequila flight for my wife, and that I was still trying to make up my mind. The flight for my wife included: the Contera Negrete Anejo, the La Gritona Repesado, and the Lalo Blanco. I was still undecided on my choices, so I told her I would wait to order. She showed up with a tequila fight a short time later for my wife, but didn't bother to ask what I wanted and walked away. Oh well, skip a flight for me and I'll try a little taste of my wife's. They were all good, so now I've decided I'll just do the Cantera Negrete Anejo,. But now, no waitress. Finally, I get a glimpse of her out of the corner of my eye and I flag her down. I really liked my wife's Contera Negrete Anejo, I tell her. Could I get a two ounce pour of that? And could we get some chips and Guacamole? Sure she says. Off she goes. The drink and chips and guacamole come out a little while later, but waitress is nowhere to been seen. We are now thinking we'd like to order a main entrée and more drinks. We have plenty of guacamole, but the handful of chips that came with it are gone. Finally, a waitress sighting, and I flag her down. Are you ready to order, she asks. Yes, I say, and we give her our order - the Chicken Enmoladas for my wife and the grilled sea bass for me. My wife wasn't sure about which wine to order with the meal, so the waitress offers a couple of recommendations. She brings a couple samples and my wife decides on the Malbec. Short of memorable, but it was red, and had some body to it. I ordered a Chardonnay to go with my sea bass. Also short of memorable, but it was white and there were no off flavors. I asked for some more chips as well. She brought them to us directly, so we were able to finish our off our guacamole. Our drinks and main course came out pretty quickly thereafter. First off, the grilled sea bass was amazing. It was about an inch and a half thick with a crispy skin and moist meat with a tiny hint of salt. It came with small chilled white beans, grilled corn, and grilled slices of onion with poblano and radish and a cilantro crème. Very delicious with a very nice presentation. Unfortunately, the biggest minus of the night was the Enmoladas. Honestly, I would have been embarrassed to serve it at any price, let alone $32. The mole sauce was about the worst we've ever had, pasty and lacking seasoning, The chicken was dry and the tortilla was difficult to cut through. Huge disappointment considering the outstanding chicken mole we had here a couple years ago. I believe my exact quote back then was that it was "some of the most authentic Mexican flavors we've ever had." I can't understand how you could go from one extreme to the other. The puréed beans and rice were pretty good, the only thing that saved that meal from being a complete disaster. So overall, how do I rate Paloma? Service 1, Ambiance 3, Tequila 4 (just because it was pricy $10/oz on average (and that was the cheap stuff), Chips and salsa 4 (needed more chips), Seabass 5, Chicken mole Enmoladas 1. Average = 3. Maybe I would come back just for the seabass, but not likely. read more

This place is fantastical. The atmosphere, bar tender and food was equally great. What attracted me initially was the dense list of Mezcal. I smell a party!! Even though it was intense for a girl who loves Mezcal but doesn't know the background of it. The bar tender was extremely helpful in this area. I started easy with a Diablo Margarita with Mezcal and then he popped my Cherry and had me taste a Rattlesnake Sotol that wasn't as smoky but very very smooth. He paired it with worm salt, cinnamon and another traditional salt that I can't recall & some oranges. I then progressed to a more smoky Mezcal that was a lot more tough on the palate but was indeed smokier. To eat we had Sea Bass Tacos and a smoked Chorizo dish. To describe it, is that it was three Maza corn like small patties that were topped with chorizo, some sauce and a apple. It almost tasted like you were eating a Savory tamale with a hint of Sweet. It was super good and it's one of those items that keeps you thinking about it later. The Sea Bass dish was also excellent, it was fresh & light but filling. It came with two sauces that paired well. When we walked in and chose the patio, the waitress said the patio would be fun. It definitely was!! They social distanced well, provided heat, and attract patrons that appear to be fun and enjoy the food and the ambience. It doesn't help that the bartender is energetic, helpful and full of laughs. We were so looking forward to our reservations at Paloma- basically mapped out our day around them. We made 5:45 reservations for a Saturday night. We came a few minutes early. As we waited at the door some servers came to the hostess stand, but did not address any of the customers, including us, at the door. When we finally were helped we were taken to an outside table that was in the blazing sun. Only 1 corner of the table was under some shade. The metal table was so hot we couldn't even touch it. There was no way we would be able to enjoy a meal or even sit through a meal at that table. I immediately went back to the hostess and asked if we could be moved to a different table l, preferably inside. I was told inside was not an option, but she would see what she could do. After a few minutes she came back and said there was nothing she could do to help us. I pointed at some other tables that were shaded and free. She said that they were being saved for reservations coming in in 1.5 hrs. I couldn't believe that our reservation somehow wasn't as valued as someone else's coming in after us. We of course left and went in search of another place to have dinner Very disappointed in the lack of customer service at Paloma. read more

Paloma in Santa Fe is a delightful restaurant. My daughter and I enjoyed it very much. We started with The Tuna Tostaditos which were several crisp little tortillas that had avocado, chipotle mayo, serrano chile peppers, and scallions....very nice appetizer. Then my daughter had Chicken en Mole, which she really loved. The chicken breast was roasted and was accompanied by sweet potato tamales, the mole negro, and crispy kale. I ordered the Lamb Posole, which was excellent. It is a soup made with smoked lamb shoulder, guajillo chile pepper broth, bits of grilled nopale (cactus), accompanied by shredded cabbage and avocado slices. It is a charming restaurant, well decorated, with a very friendly and helpful staff. If you are in Santa Fe, we highly recommend having a dinner at Paloma! read more

I've eaten here twice now. The first time was during the day, for Thanksgiving & during heavy Covid restrictions... We liked the food... weren't blown away by it... but we LOVED the Bloody Marias (Bloody Marys with tequila!) They KNOW their tequila! :) This week we went back, after a movie at Jean Cocteau theater, at night. WOW! What a difference! This space is MAGICAL at night, both inside AND out on the patio. We were 3 & we ate on the patio. Service was not the best... we had to ask SEVERAL times for a couple things we needed, but the food was good. I had the Crispy Fish Tacos and, while the tortillas were a bit small, there was a LOT of fish in each one & I enjoyed them. Someone got the Pepita Salad & it was tasty but pretty basic, but fresh. Someone else ordered the Cauliflower Sope & enjoyed it (there was enough to take some home.) We'll definitely try again at night... I know that Covid has had an immense impact on the restaurant industry. :( read more

If you want Tex-mex, look elsewhere. Many of the dishes are interpretations of Oaxacan regional specialties. Those interpretations were elevated with very fresh ingredients, were extremely well-prepared, and were presented beautifully. The service was very good. They had a bit of a snafu with their reservation system after a rain storm messed up their patio service, but they still found a way to honor their commitment. Kudos. The ambiance was very comfortable for us. One of us with some hearing loss could still participate in the conversation. This place will be on my list if I manage to return to Santa Fe. I tried walking in on a Sunday night. I was told it would be about a 5 minute wait for a table - no big deal. The 5 minutes turned into 30. The host was super apologetic, but I think if I had known it would take so long I would have dined elsewhere. I really liked the vibe inside. Drinks were very good. Service was so-so. It was hard to find our server and took a very long time to order anything. The food was good, but small. I honestly would have ordered more, but after taking our food order we never saw our server again (just food runners) until she dropped off the check. If Paloma isn't on your list of restaurants for a quick trip to Santa Fe, I think you're doing Santa Fe wrong!! Paloma has the flair and authentic flavors of Mexican cuisine, but with a chic vibe, up-scale menu, quality ingredients..... and heated toilet seats for those of you visiting during the off-season. Our server was super knowledgeable, and put together a custom tequila/mezcal flight (based on my personal whisky/scotch preferences). We had a blast tasting different styles of tequila and the food/spice pairings. (Don't miss out on trying them with orange and cinnamon!) In addition, every single bite of the food we ordered was absurdly delicious. The carnitas tacos and cauliflower tacos were amazing (do NOT underestimate the cauliflower one). It got extremely busy (every table full, a party of 12, louder) at 1930. We started with the salsas, which were great, then had the short rib barbacoa and the chicken mole. Both were great.
