We happened upon it and I was so pleasantly surprised. I think we went three times during our time in Madrid. I loved the counter experience, I'd definitely recommend that option. I wasn't looking to sit down and do all of that upstairs so my review is solely based on counters on the first floor. The locals love this spot and that is quite obvious. I was told in advance that they do and coming here was very enjoyable. The pastries and coffee are very yummy, you won't be disappointed. Makes for the perfect spot if you really want to get your day started but want to grab a quick bite before doing so.

I grabbed a mini croissant-style puff pastry with turkey, tomato, avocado, and pesto, plus a mini brioche bun with crab, pink sauce, and lettuce. It was so good chile, I came back the next day and got a full-sized one for lunch and it was still just as good. The space inside is clean and room with lots of comfy furniture; in addition, they also have free WiFi and clean bathrooms which is always appreciated while out and about in the city on vacation. The tarta de queso fundente (melting cheesecake) is one of the best desserts I have ever tasted!…read more I actually sought out Pastelería Mallorca because I read somewhere that the Fismuler cheesecake was available there. But from what I can gather, the tarta de queso fundente is a completely different dessert. I was not disappointed! According to their website, the cheesecake has a "thin and crispy cookie layer, a creamy interior, and a flavor blend of cream cheese, fresh cheese, and premium parmesan." I admit I'm a parmesan fanatic. This cheesecake has such an interesting, intense flavor. The texture was indeed "melting" - gooey on the inside, a little bit more set toward the outside. It was rich but not overly sweet, and had a savory kick from the parmesan. I will be dreaming about this cheesecake until I hopefully make it back to Madrid again one day. I came here for dessert and coffee after lunch at the Mercado de la Paz. I also got a lovely café con leche to go with the cheesecake. They have other food and desserts as well, but this cheesecake was so delicious, I wanted to leave a review just to spotlight it.

Based on the definitive opinions of travel vloggers, this appeared to be the place to get the fabled chocolate con churros. Jamie W and I made our way here through the labyrinth of streets near Puerta del Sol. It was early evening so no surprise there was a queue, but it moved quickly because this historic place was a model of efficiency. It's the type of place where you need to be ready to order the moment you're in front of the hostess. Luckily, we had made mental notes of what to order from one particular vlogger, so we were ready. It only took a minute to secure one of their marble cafe tables. Our order arrived fairly quickly. It consisted of a 2,5€ plate of Churros, six long sticks of chewy, delicious dough. Unlike the Mexican version, it wasn't dusted with sugar because the 3,7€ cup of Hot Chocolate was more than enough (Photo 8). Incredibly rich and only lightly sweetened. The churros might've been enough for a neophyte, but we double-downed with a 2,5€ order of two Porros (Photo 7). Porras are a thicker, doughier version of churros, so of course, they were our favorites because they really held the chocolate with assurance. Even though we went through two cups of hot chocolate, we still had 2,4€ cups of Cafes con Leche to wash it all down (Photo 10). It was an ideal dessert experience because who doesn't love awesome doughnuts? Definitely a must-gorge when in Madrid.
