I couldn't speak too much Chinese, but they were very welcoming and curious about my background. My daughter and I stopped by for a late lunch and were pleasantly surprised! We ordered the dry sichuan sauce noodles, potstickers, cucumbers and watermelon smoothie. You know how you can tell after one bite if the chef knows what they are doing? Yeah, the chef here knows what he's doing. Texture which is critical for noodles is done right. The flavor was great, our noodles were ordered mildly spicy and were the perfect level (I am a wimp with spice though). To top it off the watermelon smoothie used real fruit! So often artificial powders are used but this was all fruit, pulp and all. My daughter will be in Seattle all summer and she is looking forward to coming back and trying more off their menu. Service was non obtrusive smooth-you order from the QR code, food is brought out promptly, you pay online whenever you are ready, the proprietor/chef is friendly and welcomes and thanks you for coming. Each table is already set with a large jug of lemon water and self-serve cutlery. The large jug of water is convenient, and definitely necessary if you go for some of the spicier noodles on the menu. ~foreshadowing~ We had the wood ear mushroom salad to start, I had the pickle fish noodle soup, and my lunch buddy had the chongqing noodle soup (vegetarian version, which is not marked on the menu but we found out because we asked). The wood ear mushroom comes in a tangy, flavorful marinade full of pickled peppers and cilantro. The peppers are actually spicy! So...be careful. It's hard to avoid them, though, because they are everywhere. As is the cilantro, so if you hate spice or you hate cilantro, maybe don't get this. BUT if you LOVE spice and you LOVE cilantro, like me, then you will like this wood ear salad. It was certainly one of the tastier and more unique versions of a wood ear salad that I've ever had. I really liked my pickle fish noodle soup. I got the large and it was legitimately a HUGE bowl, with lots of noodle and lots and lots of fish. The fish was super tender, the noodles were perfectly cooked, and the broth was wonderfully cloudy and rich and tangy without being overly sour. My lunch buddy liked his Chongqing noodle soup, but be aware that the spice levels here are not for the faint of heart. He went for the medium spicy and his bowl looked like the liquid at the earth's core and he drank the entire water jug on our table. Absolutely blown away by Panda Noodle Bar! We came in not knowing what to expect and left totally impressed. The noodles were served slightly cooler, paired with a warm, flavorful broth and tender chicken--absolutely delicious. The broth itself was next-level: rich, kind of oily (in the best possible way), and full of umami. Presentation was beautiful, and everything came out looking as good as it tasted. We also had the fried chicken wings--perfectly crispy, hot, and cooked just right. No complaints there at all. But the spicy dumplings? Total showstopper. They were definitely spicy, but in a way that built slowly and left this amazing, tingly sensation on our lips. Addictive! To top it off, the cook was also the server, and honestly, this guy deserves an award. He was running the entire place solo--cooking, serving, cleaning, managing at least six tables while we were there--and he did it all with such speed, grace, and kindness. Watching him hustle around like a madman (in a good way!) while keeping everything running smoothly was honestly inspiring. This place is a hidden gem and deserves way more attention. I stopped into Panda Noodle Bar on a Tuesday at around 1pm to get a quick takeout lunch to eat on the UW Quad when the cherry blossoms were in bloom! Upon entry, the restaurant is small, dark and narrow, but deeper length-wise than it looks, with plenty of seating downstairs and in a loft-like space upstairs. There weren't many people there when I went, but I'm sure it gets crowded on weekends! We ordered directly at the front counter, and service was quick - we simply marked what we wanted on the menu, and then were given buzzers for when our food was ready. Our servers didn't speak much English, but that wasn't really an issue at all, and they were kind and helpful in explaining the different dishes to us. I ended up ordering a Small Chonqing Shredded Chicken Mixed Noodles ($14.99) at a Medium Spicy level. I initially thought the price was quite steep for a noodle dish, but it's a lot of noodles. The dish came with a generous amount of wheat noodles with assorted vegetables (shredded cucumbers, carrots, and peas), peanuts, a small amount of chicken, and a very liberal amount of chili oil. I ended up dumping out a lot of the extra oil, and the noodles were still extremely flavorful - it was just the right amount of spice, with a rich garlicky flavor as well. The crunch of the cucumber and the peanuts also added a nice contrast. Overall, I enjoyed my meal from Panda Noodle Bar, although I wish that there was a bit more protein (there was barely any shredded chicken) and maybe less noodles? I think that it's a great spot for college students (if a bit pricey for what it is), service is fast and friendly, and has a great location - definitely a place I'd stop into to get your noodle fix! read more

Delicious food and great service! I've been wanting to check out this place for a while and finally got to stop in. It's a mom & pop restaurant but the quality is still top tier and food is all reasonably priced. Ordering is done online so it's convenient and easy because most dishes have pictures available. We ordered the garlic spareribs, spicy wontons and braised intestine noodle soup with braised pork added. Everything came out relatively quick and was so good! I usually can't handle the numbing of the mala that is found in many Szechuan cuisine, but this place has a good balance. The dumplings were also nice and chewy, and we got to see them make it while we were eating! Spare ribs were also delicious but I needed some white rice, since I can't eat too much salt. All in all, I highly recommend and can't wait to come back! It's right on the Ave so it's perfect when you're needing some comfort food before/after studying! read more

I came here for lunch and got the spare ribs, beef stew with noodle soup, and mixed sauce noodles. It wasn't busy at all, and we got our food pretty quickly which was nice. The spare ribs were really good! They were crispy but still tender and very warm. The onions were also tasty. I got the beef stew with noodle soup at a mild spice level. My spice tolerance is not the best, but wow the spice really hit. If you like traditional Sichuan spice, this will be great. I personally wasn't the biggest fan of the spice flavor, but I enjoyed the meat and noodles. If you are a big meat eater, I would recommend getting extra meat since it was pretty tender but there wasn't a ton. The mixed sauce noodles were really good, and it had the same noodles as the beef stew. It had a lot more meat, and I enjoyed the spice flavor more than the beef stew. Braised Beef Stew Noodle Soup - chili sauce is mixed into the broth so your spice level will be apparent. I'm a big fan of beef noodle soup and this was very authentic. Loved the broth as it wasn't overly salty. Noodles were alright but beef was super tender and nearly melted in my mouth. Braised Pork Noodle Soup - chili sauce here is more centralized on the top so you need to do the mixing yourself, but there is a fair amount of heat already. Fatty bits of pork belly mixed in. I personally prefer rice with braised pork so I didn't care much for this. Fried Baked Scallion Pancake - standard, nothing special. Pretty small but that's reflected in the lower cost so it's fair. My friends and I came here this past week for dinner at 6:30pm on a weekday for the first time. It was pretty empty when we first walked in, but it quickly filled up within 15 minutes. We were seated in the back. They currently use QR menus and you order through the online app. I ordered the Beef Noodle Soup and chose less spicy because I figured I could just ask for more chili sauce on the side if I wanted. In retrospect, I probably should've went with more spicy because it wasn't very spicy at all and they didn't give me any chili sauce on the side even though I put it in the ordering notes. While the beef was flavorful, there were some fatty and inedible pieces. The noodles were okay, but honestly tasted like top ramen and were nothing special. The broth was also lighter and clearer than I expected; it honestly just tasted like plain beef broth with a bit of chili oil; I was expecting the broth to be richer in taste and have a beef bone taste to it. Service honestly needs improvement; they didn't bring out our dishes all at once and so we couldn't really enjoy our meal together; it took about 30 minutes after the first person got their food for the last person in our group to receive their food. Additionally, it took a while for them to ring us up at the end as the waitress seemed new to using the register and the older man (possibly the owner) kept on telling her to just let him do it. For those who remember, Panda took over the old Oasis location and so it's divided into two floors. It didn't look like they were using the upper floor (or perhaps they open it up once the bottom floor fills up?) and so it's a rather small eating area. It was a chilly evening and I had a hankering for something warm for dinner and was debating between hotpot or Korean tofu stew and then this spot popped up on my Yelp search. I did a quick Yelp scan of reviews and photos and decided to give it a try. Located on University Way NE next to rows of other restaurants is Panda Noodle Bar. You may have to do a double look since it is sorta hidden among the more brightly lit shops nearby. It felt much like a mom and pop kind of shop. The owner was the one who seemed to be preparing the food, there was another waiter and I think the owner's wife also helped to serve the food and acted as the cashier as well. They have the QR code type menu on the table, which to my chagrin I'm still getting use to, but I remember reviewing the menu before I arrived so I knew I was going to get the Braised Beef Stew Noodle Soup, my friend got the Tomato & Egg Noodle Soup and we shared a Fried Baked Scallion Pancake and a pot of tea to boot. Everything could be ordered from your phone. Fried Baked Scallion Pancake - This appeared to be homemade and it was not super oily. I would have preferred it to be browned a bit more, but it was still flakey and satisfying. Braised Beef Stew Noodle Soup - I asked for medium spice and as others have mentioned it had a good broth flavor, it came out pipping hot, a tad too much chili oil but it wasn't over powering, the beef pieces were tender and the noodles were actually quite good. Tomato & Egg Noodle Soup - Tomato and egg is a dish famous in China, but we've never seen it in a soup version. Nevertheless, it was a nice savory broth with tomato and a pan fried egg and the noodles were good. The decor is a bit lack lustering, but I came for a bowl of good noodles and that is what I got, so decor is not a critique, just merely an observation. The owner's wife brought our food and tea and never stopped by to check on us again until we went up to the front to pay for the bill, which once again, isn't a critique but an observation, and honestly, I rather they focus on the food than say customer service. And by no means were they rude, but it was more like, here's your food and if you need anything flag one of us down. I would suggest coming here if you want a nice bowl of what taste like homestyle noodles with good flavor, reasonable pricing but don't expect outstanding customer service. This place is currently a hidden gem, located in what was formerly Oasis Tea Zone (I strongly remembered the 2 story seating when I was in Seattle a few years back), offering thin noodles in a rich and slightly spicy broth, a bit different from all the thick noodles I have tried that are hand-pulled style. I personally got the braised beef stew noodle soup (large, mild spicy) as I was fairly hungry, and the dish itself comes with some bok choy, braised beef, and noodles. I definitely really enjoy the broth, though there were a few things lacking that would otherwise have been an excellent experience. I was hoping that I would be full from the large portion, but their large seems to be normal size for other places, just like some other reviews have mentioned. Also, some of the noodles were clumped together, making the texture a bit weird to eat. It kind of reminds me of visiting a friend's place to make noodles in the noodle machine, some of the noodles being a bit messed up due to an uneven distribution of water. Regardless, the noodles that were not clumped were pretty good. Do note that as it is a Chinese restaurant, food quality is prioritized over service - the first round of water is on the waitress to give, but for refills, you will need to get up and refill the water cup yourself at the back of the restaurant.
