The Golden Fleece is a weird hybrid...part pub, part Thai restaurant…read more I've almost given up reviewing a pubs in England. What's the point? You don't like it, you just have to walk next door to one of the other 57,000 pubs in the UK (seems a lot more than that, if you ask me). But this Thai restaurant just served me some of the best Pad Kee Maw that I've ever eaten. Mind you, I've eaten Thai food all over the U.S., UK, New Zealand, and Australia...short of actually eating in Thailand, it's fair to say, I know good from bad. There was a vegetable Tempura that was to die for, and my wife had the Pad See Ew, but was not overly impressed. Because the pub licensing rules apply, children must stay out of the bar, and must exit the pub premises at 19:00. This doesn't leave much of a window on week nights, as they begin serving dinner at 18:00. No high chairs, either, so they could really work on their family-friendliness. The wait staff was pleasant, and the good Kee Maw will have us back again. I'll update once we've had a few other visits.

A comfortable restaurant with friendly helpful staff, usually fully booked at weekends. The menu is a little bit different to most Thai places - I think this is because it's probably more authentic. A good place for a cosy date or meal with the parents.

The food was really delicious, and in particular there was an excellent varied selection of food for vegetarians (I'm a vegetarian). The waiter was friendly, polite and efficient, and kept on bowing! However, the attractions of being so high up are obvious once you're up there (there's a lift if your legs don't fancy the walk up) - you get a lovely view and on the evening I visited, I saw Guildford Cathedral looking all pretty and lit up They've made a real effort to make the rrestaurant feel an oasis from the harsh reality of the concrete car park and the moment you step in, you're greeted with an authentic 'Namaste' from the staff with the traditional Thai hand together greeting. The decor is great, from the Koi pond to the lovely relaxing bar area with lots of comfy sofas. My friend and I were almost too comfortable to want to move through for our meal! We started with grilled chicken with a sweet chilli sauce. The chicken was nicely moist and enhanced by the sauce. The star of our main courses was the mixed seafood dish, which had lovely large pieces of fish, sweet scallops, prawns and squid. We also had a subtly and sympathetically spiced pork with aubergine. The chicken pad thai arrived with a unique lacey crepe covering the noodles. The pad thai was probably the most ordinary of the dishes. A solid Thai restaurant with a great ambiance and lovely view

It is very low key restaurant, easy to walk right by, but we are glad we didn't. A simple spot without much decoration, we were promptly seated at a table in the front room. It was kind of funny, we wanted rum and they didn't know it they had any, anyway they went out and purchased a bottle for us as theirs was almost empty ! It was our waitresses first week, she was so nervous but very very good. She repeated our order, chicken satay, spring rolls, tempura vegetables, chicken pad thai and pork fried rice. Everything was really fresh and excellent, except they delivered chicken rather than pork fried rice. I didn't complain, the young lady was so sweet and sincere I didn't want her to feel bad. The food was as fresh and tasty, really nice ingredients, we liked it very much. If back in London we would definitely go again.

Here both of these were per determined. It was also a bit pricer than I am used to for Thai. The service was good and everything came out in a reasonable amount of time. I have to say the broth of the coconut soup was 5 stars. It was delicious with complex favors. I also liked the mushrooms in it. The chicken was a bit disappointing. It was basic but not well cut. Many of the chucks were quite large for soup (maybe they use the same chicken for everything?). We also had shrimp pad Thai which oddly was listed under the sides and vegetable section. I also found it odd that you had to order rice separately, why would this not come with your entree as a normal side? The presentation was lovely. All in all it was good, but not amazing. The noodles were cooked well and there were two large grilled prawns. This is not really a restaurant for children and there were two small children at the table next to use. After they left the window was covered with small, greasy hand prints.

I liked it because I am a Thai snob and I always get the same thing so this forced me to branch out a bit. We had a wonderful appetizer starter that included dumplings, fish cakes, spring rolls. They charge for everything from rice, chilli sauce, crackers which came out of a bag and they serve it with a bottled sweet chilli. Ordered duck and it came as 1 piece of leg and even the duck was like "hey where's the other leg?". The portion is for a mouse. The worst 75 quid I've ever spent. The waitress was rude at the beginning and I can tell that she tried to be nice but boy that food sucked. Imagine paying 5 quid for a small bowl of rice. Unless England has a rice shortage, this price is absurd. The flavors are not even authentically Thai. I stopped eating half way and just paid and left. This place is nothing but a tourist trap.

You will get to know the folks at the table beside you, whether you want to or not. We're pretty chill and fine with that though! We split an order of Shrimp Pad Thai and also had spring rolls. We do this to avoid leftovers or wasting food. The Pad Thai had lots of peanuts which gave it crunch. The spring rolls were piping hot, and I only wished I had more dipping sauce for them.
