I guess I am not surprised that the rating is so low for Panera. I received a gift card and decided to try their salads. They have some great deals going on now. The one we took advantage of was spend $5 and get a free 1/2 salad or sandwich. The Italiano is a decent sandwich and we got the Southwest Chicken Salad. It is ok nothing to exciting. What confuses me is the ranch dressing you receive. It is 1/4 of the soufflé cup. I ordered the salad a 2nd time and mentioned this to a manager. It was like oh well. first thing was the attitude from the female worker , my friend misunderstood that the you pick 2 doesn't come with a whole sandwich and was rude when asked about it. My friend then ordered an extra grilled cheese seperately and clicked "extra" for the cheese . They proceeded to serve her a grilled cheese with what looked like a whole block of cheese , she brought the sandwich back up and said "this is way to much cheese can this be remade" and they said "you ordered extra which is double which would be 16 slices of cheese" that is INSANE . When somebody orders extra they do not mean DOUBLE and there was no way to specify , not to mention the guy was laughing when he put it on the counter as if they did it on purpose. I love ordering ahead on the app to pick up my breakfast here. Food & coffee is always hot, fresh, and correct as special ordered. Alycia is very perky and cheerful, a nice way to start the day. Perhaps the best part is cruising past all the people waiting on the drive thru at the other coffee chain right next door, grabbing my order, and driving back out past the drive thru line at SBUX that hasn't moved an inch. Shhhh, don't tell them the coffee is just as good, & food is even better at Panera! Great location for letting us work with some breakfast & mochas to beat the nasty "wintery mix" traffic. We are fans of PNRA for breakfast (little personal quiches), lunch (pick 2 soup & salad or 1/2 sandwich) & even for dinner (pick 2 again!). Very nice staff, efficient. As a senior citizen I am used to paying by cash and not being forced to use a credit or debit card. Without the cash option my continued patronage of Panera may not continue . The girl who took my order didn't listen and there was confusion about the order. My salad came without poppyseed dressing and I had to go back and ask for some. I waited at the counter and they wouldn't even yell out who's food was who, so I stepped up and would yell it out for the people around me. Everyone was frustrated and irritated. And it doesn't help that Panera encourages and provides tee shirts which encourages staff to "be their best selves" with hard-left political messaging printed on the tees. My significant other stopped in before dropping him back at home and heading back to work. We both got sandwiches and soup. He ordered the turkey deli, but at the time they were out of tomatoes, and chicken and wild rice soup. I myself, got the steak and cheese sandwich with broccoli cheddar soup. We received our buzzer, and sat down to wait for our food to be placed at the next window. After waiting for 30 minutes, I noticed a board with a list of names of orders as they come in saying "ready", "prepping" and "received". My name wasn't on the list anywhere, so I got up and asked one of the workers. She said that they were very behind, and began handing out cookies to those waiting. I asked how much longer it would be, and she said if my name wasn't on the list, then it was likely going to be another 45 minutes to an hour. I went to the cashier to cancel my order, as I was on my lunch break and needed to get back to work. There were zero apologies made. The manager came out to give me my refund, without looking at me, or apologizing as well. I had suggested maybe turning off the online ordering to catch up, or at the very least telling people BEFORE they order the estimated wait time. Rather than making them wait 20-30 mins, and then finding out it will be another hour. read more

I don't care if this isn't gourmet food and it's a chain: I like Panera. And the Appleton location is no different from any other Panera (and in a good way). The service is efficient and sometimes even really friendly. The wait for food is appropriate. As is standard for Panera, you order, you get your buzzer thing, you find a seat, you wait for the buzzer thing to vibrate, and you pick up your food from the counter. Even though we've eaten there when it was crowded, we have never not been able to find somewhere to sit. Every time I go here, I get the same thing. Why? Because I know what I like. The broccoli and cheddar soup is good, although certainly not the best I've had in the area (Atlanta Bread Co. has a better b&c soup). When I'm extra hungry, I love getting it in a bread bowl. Carb city! I usually can't finish the whole bowl, so I opt for an apple or piece of sourdough bread to dip into the soup. Delish. I'm also a fan of the mango smoothies here. They're only 230 calories, low fat, and refreshing. If you want to go with an even healthier option, I recommend the fat free superfruit smoothie with ginseng (more fiber, significantly less sugar, and significantly more protein than the other smoothies). I got a cookie here once and thought it tasted a little bit un-fresh (it was hard, not soft and chewy like a chocolate chip cookie should be). I only had Panera Bread one time before yesterday. So imagine my surprise when I found myself craving it for lunch. I decided to give in to that desire and made the stop. I ordered the steak and white cheddar sandwich (no horseradish sauce), chips, and Lemonade. I ordered through the drive thru, which was of course convenient and within a reasonable time I did not take into consideration the messiness of driving while eating however, and it dripped juice all over my shirt and pants. Luckily, they didn't skimp out on the napkins. But all in all, it was nearly perfect and killed my craving well. Side bar: I do wish they would look into getting strawberry lemonade. Tomato mozzarella sandwich and ceaser salad We also signed up for the rewards card which came with a surprise - a free pastry!!! Verdict on the paid food first: 1. Cream of tomato soup - was indeed a relish to have 2. Mediterranean sandwich - with whole grain bread was so refreshing and crunchy but nothing special. 3. Tomato mozzarella sandwich - The STAR of our dinner. You cannot ask for anything better. I am a panini lover. So this was a panini, but just half the regular size. It was indeed too big and full for me, along with the salad. The roasted tomato, basil and the fresh mozzarella goat cheese that went in between the grilled bread was simply fantastic in taste. I would go in again for just this dish. 4. Ceaser salad - just a normal one. Wasn't great Now, coming to the Free goodies that we got. We have had few pastries back in Calif from Panera bread , but wasn't this addictive. We picked up "Blueberry scone" and "Chocolate wrap around" as freebies. Both were deliciously heavenly! It's sad to leave such a low star rating, because I actually do enjoy Panera's food quite a bit, but there are two glaring issues that take away a lot of that enjoyment: 1) When I walk through the door, I have come to expect that they will be out of AT LEAST one item that I want. And by item, I mean menu item, an entire dish, not just an ingredient. The staff can't even tell you if they are completely out (no souffle in the building) or if they have simply run out and a short wait could have you what you want. I think that's unacceptable. 2) They just cannot get it together in the morning. No matter what time I go, there is a ten minute wait sitting in the drive thru or standing at the counter. Today there were two cars in the parking lot and one ahead of me in the drive through, and I waited twelve minutes for my food. That's a long time for a drive thru. Please, get the lead out, for everyone's sake. I think I'm going to be done with Panera, which means I need a new soup and sandwich spot in the Valley. Or they could build another Panera on the southside, and we can all then choose to go to the "good" Panera. The ball's in their court. read more

I paid $5 for a "half" sandwich that amounted to some turkey, bacon, avocado, and lettuce slapped between two slivers of bread. We have been a big fan of Panera since they opened. I know that things are extra crazy right now during this time. However, not taking the time to make sure the orders going out are correct should be unacceptable. We have made multiple delivery and curbside orders and each one has been missing one or multiple items. When you call them about it they are very uninterested in what you have to say and just brush you off. Telling someone they can drive all the way back to pick up the missing item is ridiculous. Having a group order and end up with someone having no meal is unacceptable. I understand that things happen but when it is a constant issue it should be fixed! I wish they would make the adjustments needed to have someone make sure every order going out the door is correct! read more

I tried explaining they don't usually sell soups until 10am, but this did not assuage her. So out the door and to Panera. I explained my situation and register man called over manager and she asked what soups. She then expedited the process and I got my soups in no time. I thoroughly enjoy eating at Panera Bread. I love that all of the caloric information is listed directly on the menu. No need to check on line or stand off to the side looking at a pamphlet. The service has always been fast and friendly here, and very helpful. I have an intolerance to cilantro, and the staff is always more than willing to make sure I can get what I want without that ingredient. This was bad. The chicken noodle soup is mediocre at best, and feels like I could have bought this from a store for 98 cents. Not an outrageous 5 dollars. Also the Caesar Salad was subpar and tasted like store brand beef. The floors were unnecessarily hard as well, cracked my phone. The lemonade could be sweeter as well, and has a horrid aftertaste, reminded me of Vietnam. They also laughed at me when I asked NICELY for chocolate milk.
