Haven't been since before the pandemic. The setup looked the same but it had a different vibe. It felt like the Hostess was all business with no greeting. First words, do you have reservations, no smile. It's a slow early evening and they're lots of open tables in and out. We were seated inside. We had the Thai Style Steak Salad which had a strong taste with a generous portion of steak. However, the taste was bitter and strong and not to appetizing. I ate less than half. At $31, I thought I should have ordered something else. The Thai Beef Noodle $27 was just alright with nothing that stood out to remember, it had a strong broth taste as well. The Spicy Wonton $14 was the best dish of the night. It was small but solid and full of flavor. We had the Golden Latte $8.50 which was a bit watered down. Not a good experience since the last time. I hope this review can help them improve in some of these areas. Also, check your receipt, we had a Kitchen Surcharge. My $80+ bill had a $2.16 charge.

My aunty & I had originally planned to go to another restaurant but because they were booked we ended up at Panya. I'm not complaining though because this was the first time that I've been here. The ambience is very nice inside and is a little more on the fancier side. We got seated quickly and the workers came to take our orders. My aunty got the rainbow salad and I got their seafood laksa. The laksa was okay. Didn't have a lot of flavor except for it being pretty fishy tasting. But I did like that they put a lot of seafood and noodles in it. I also got a side order of rice to eat with the soup which went really well with it. They were pretty busy when went. I wasn't a big fan on how close the tables are from each other so you can hear each others conversations if you don't talk softly. I would recommend parking at Ward so that you don't have to pay for parking. But if you park in the building that Panya is in, I believe you can get your ticket validated.

Japanese Cheese with creme anglaise. Sooo good. Ligt and fluffy. The creme anglaise is perfect. Not too sweet or rich.

Been coming here for years, and it's always been one of those reliable go-to spots for us after a movie at Ward. We stopped in again for an early dinner. The place was about a quarter full, calm and comfortable. The menu is Asian Fusion / Southeast Asian comfort food, with dishes like Malaysian Laksa, Hainanese Chicken Rice, and Taiwanese Beef Noodles. Founded by Alice and Annie Yeung, two sisters from Hong Kong, Panya actually began as Panya Bakery & Café back in the '90s, known for its European-style pastries, Asian desserts, and specialty coffees. As business grew, they expanded into the full bistro it is today. For dinner: The grilled octopus was excellent. Very tender, perfectly seasoned, and plated beautifully. The beef stew remains our favorite; we order it almost every time we come. Meaty with a wonderful depth of flavor. So comforting with a side of garlic bread. The steamed clams in spicy basil broth had great flavor but leaned a bit too salty for our taste. Next time I'd probably try one of the other preparations like white wine or sake. To finish, we shared their Japanese-style cheesecake, which is light as a cloud and not overly sweet . Service was attentive and friendly, as always. Parking on the ground floor of the Hōkūa Tower. They will validate parking. Still one of the most consistent spots in the area. Will definitely be back! Happy eating!!

My uncle was visiting from Hong Kong and we had family dinner here. There was 14 of us total. We made reservations, so getting a table wasn't difficult. The food was good, but portions were small. We got a few orders of the fried chicken wings $15 each and fried baby octopus $14 each. The chicken wings were halved flats. So, every piece only had one bone in it instead of two. My uncle and I both ordered the seafood laksa $28 (coconut curry seafood broth w/two types of noodles, shrimp, fish cake, fish ball, aburage, bean sprouts, corn and half boiled egg), which is their house specialty. When it arrived it was really red as it was supposed to be spicy. It wasn't that spicy at all, which was perfect for me. It was flavorful and I liked it a lot. My uncle who lived in Malaysia and Singapore, said that it wasn't authentic and not close to what they serve in those countries. He said it was still good though. If you're looking to get dessert their Japanese cheesecake with creme anglaise sauce is my favorite. For parties of 6 or more they'll add a 20% gratuity. For parties of 10 or more they'll add a 23% gratuity. They also add a 3% surcharge for the kitchen staff.

I have always seen this restaurant but never been here before. We came because someone was visiting and they made reservations. I read some of the reviews so I didn't have high hopes. However, we had a great time and everything we got was so delicious. We were seated right away. The interior is very nice. It looks like a very modern restaurant. They have outside seating as well. Our servers were all so nice and very attentive. Everything we ordered was so delicious as well! I got the Thai green curry with fried chicken karaage. I've never seen that before. But the chicken was so good and super crispy. The curry was just a tad spicy and had great flavor. Together they were sooo good. I would def get again. The pad Thai was good. My husband enjoyed his seafood laska. The steamed fish was also really delicious. We ordered desserts as well. They were beautiful. All very light and not too sweet. We had a great time and would definitely come back again.

    Tan Tan Tossed Noodles

Panya Bistro & Bakery is a chic restaurant in Ward that offers South East Asian dishes and freshly baked desserts and pastries. We got the Tan Tan Tossed Noodles and Lap Chong Fried Rice, which were both good, but not as exceptional as I was expecting for the price. I didn't have any of their pastries this time, but every time I've had their cakes or bread they've always been delicious. Vibe: The service was extraordinary! From the host to the servers, everyone was funny, kind, and quick. We decided to sit outside, which is a nice option since they allow pets to join you at the table. The restaurant is usually pretty busy, both outside and inside, so it's best to make a reservation. Parking: We usually park in the Ward Village parking lot and shop around after eating, but they also have a private parking lot behind the restaurant.

I've been to Panya a handful of times and I really enjoy this spot! I love how they have a wide variety of dishes on their menu and a nice selection of desserts as well! My favorite dish to get is the Thai green curry with the fried chicken karaage. The curry is creamy with a good amount of spice and it goes great with the chicken karaage! It's a generous portion too and I usually have enough for leftovers for the next day. During this visit we got the tiramisu for dessert which was tasty. Service is usually pretty efficient and I highly recommend making reservations!

Panya always give good service and serves delicious food. The servers are super nice and smiley, always came over to make sure we are good. We had the house specialty seafood laksa noodles, spicy. It has a mild flavor, despite the fact that it looked red. The Dan Dan had a fermented noodle flavor. And our favorite was the chicken wings, which was tasty and flavorful.

I'm always a bit skeptical of places with large menus, it can be a bit overwhelming, but I loved everything we got. My favorite was the Indonesian fried rice, which they modified to make vegetarian for me which is so appreciated. Fried tofu noodles were also delicious with a good amount of spice and seasoning. Caprese for an appetizer and finished with delicious dessert (strawberry shortcake and mango cake). Service was attentive and they modified dishes to make them vegetarian without a second thought . I really enjoyed sitting outside as well, the ambiance is nice. Can't wait to return, this will become a regular place in our rotation for sure.

Steamed fish sitting on a bed of tofu. Definitely one of their top 5 dishes

I'm always pleased with the food here, I have yet to be disappointed. It's a little pricey with an average of $30-32 a plate, but I find the portions to be generous and the flavors impressive. If you like seafood, I think you'll be satisfied. The ahi sashimi salad, steamed fish, smoked salmon sandwich, and salmon spaghetti are just a few of my favorites. The sashimi in the salad is super fresh, and the steamed fish is huge and sits on a bed of tofu, topped with a ginger shoyu sauce that goes so great with rice. I like that you can choose from a selection of quality bread for the sandwiches - can't go wrong with the smoked salmon but I love the club sandwich as well. I was amazed at how much flavor is in the salmon spaghetti, plus they don't skimp on the salmon pieces here. The clam chowder and Russian borscht soups are good too. The best part is that there are probably 70+ more menu items I haven't even tried yet. The Thai steak salad, seafood laksa, green curry, and oxtail stew are next on the hit list. Service is okay. Typical busy establishment - I tend to come during the high peak lunch hour. The food can be slow at times, but it's worth it. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The patio is the quieter option but I usually sit inside where the a/c is. They validate parking which marks them up yet another notch. I recommend making reservations since they can get busy, especially around lunch.

Celebrating a birthday and having a nice lunch. They validate parking in Hoku's guest parking. I haven't been here for awhile. The purple chairs are new to me. They did not read my comments on my reservations and were reading someone else's reservation. Good thing we had a screen shot of what was requested. The food we had was all good - steamed ginger fish filet, Laksa seafood stew, and thai beef salad, rice and black magic cake. Too bad I had to request a candle and Happy Birthday for the slice of cake we paid for. Staff was friendly and sang a nice Happy Birthday with us for the Birthday person. They were busy with a gathering on the lanai area and the lunch crowd. It's still a good place to go.

Ask the Community - Panya Bistro & Bakery

    Is there still happy hour?

Yes! Happy Hour is on Tuesday-Friday from 3-5 pm

    Where is parking?

    Around the side. Free.

Are you allowing the non inoculated to sit on the patio outside or no papers no welcome? I realize it's a mandate, which is a strongly worded suggestion but it's not a law. What about HIPPA federal law privacy?

All Oahu restaurants that offer any sit-down service are required to have vaccinated or recently tested customers. No exceptions except for takeout orders. It's the law!

Are they open for dine-in and do they take reservations?

Yes and yes! I went back in May, and they were open for dine-in. I placed my reservation via OpenTable.

Do they use msg in their food?

We also shared the duck salad, which was fresh and flavorful. My friends both ordered the chicken pho, with one adding an egg. They agreed the soup was really good. The portions are generous, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food. Our server was outstanding--attentive, friendly, and happy to explain the menu and answer our questions. We all ordered the Vietnamese iced coffee, and it was a favorite at the table. It was perfectly blended and the perfect way to finish the meal. The only downsides are that parking can be a bit difficult, and the restaurant gets quite loud when it's full. Overall, it's a wonderful spot with delicious food, excellent service, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. I'd definitely come back!

When I tell you everything that came out was amazing.... Holy moly it was SO TASTY. EVERYTHING! I was even impressed with the fried rice with how much they served and how much was in it. I personally loved the fish carpaccio, rib eye, hamachi kama, wok vegetables and malasadas for dessert. The orange chicken was my least favorite but it was still good. Oh and the STICKY RIBS...... you HAVE to get them. So crispy yet tender.... I loved how everything we had bursted in my mouth with flavor and was something I couldn't make to that level at home. Service was amazing like any other fine dining restaurant, but for the first time, I felt like this one was worth the money for how good the food was. I will definitely be back!

My bad review is entirely based on how terrible the food was. For context, we ordered Tonkatsu…read moreramen and Tsukemen dipping ramen. Ramen, according to the server, was the most popular thing on the menu, so how likely could it get messed up? Tonkatsu: Rich, but lacked any salt or had very little. We requested some salt and that instantly made the ramen better. The noodles had enough salt to carry it, but the broth was not great. It tasted like the broth was watered down or reconstituted, however no seasoning was added to re-adjust the broth. Broth: Had little salt and lacked punch, umami, and was brown instead of white. Noodles: Had enough salt to taste good, but was slightly overcooked Pork: Extremely bland. Tasted like zero salt was added during cooking. Toppings: Greatly lacking in toppings Tsukemen: The Tsukemen had a lot of the same issues. Now being a dipping ramen, the broth should be even richer and more flavorful than any normal ramen. Tsukemen -- no matter where you have it in Japan, should be richer and saltier than most broths, but the broth here was severely lacking. For $26 a bowl this was worse than your DIY frozen ramen packs. Now I'm not asking for Japan-level of ramen mastery here, this is after all, just a tourist spot -- but if your Tonkatsu is the best selling item, you have to step it up. Our server did mention that some people complained about the amount of salt in ramen, so they adjusted it. But dare I say, instead of diluting the normal salt/seasoning amount for everyone, couldn't you just add a separate, flavor-light version for people inexperienced with ramen, instead of diluting the original for everyone else? If you're reading this Mr. Morimoto, I would highly encourage you to fly here and order the ramen. I think you and I would share the same opinions. P.S. I've also been to your other Morimoto spots and it was not this bad.
