Wildflower Montessori - Preschool and Pre-K classroom

Wildflower Montessori has been so much more than a school for our family, it has truly been a home…read moreaway from home. They helped raise not one, but two of our children, and I cannot say enough good things about the care, love, and dedication of this place. Our son, Silas, attended Wildflower for two years before our youngest ever started. When our daughter, Sloane, joined later, it felt like coming home all over again. When Silas needed additional support that his elementary school couldn't provide, Wildflower welcomed him back with open arms without hesitation. That level of compassion and commitment is rare. We have absolutely loved every teacher we've had throughout the years. These are the only people I would ever trust with my children, to the point that we have even used Wildflower teachers as babysitters when needed. That alone speaks volumes about the trust and confidence we have in this team. Almost a year later, our youngest still asks if we can stop by just so she can give her teachers a hug, and I think that says everything about the kind of place Wildflower is. If you're looking for more than just a daycare, if you want a family to help raise your child while they're away from home. I highly recommend Wildflower Montessori. Our children are stronger, more confident, and more successful because of the foundation they received here, and we will forever be grateful.

Hi parents! We just…read moremoved to Parkville and prior to purchasing our home, we were on the hunt for a new provider for our 4 year old. Our kiddo is the youngest of two, so we have been through many daycares and providers in our time. To put a fine point on it, Wildflower is far and away the best provider we have found in our roughly 9 years of using multiple providers (and touring many more!) we were looking for something that takes the best of Montessori, but isn't so stuck in the Montessori world that kids aren't being taught to excel later in a more traditional education environment. Our son had attended a strict Montessori school prior and he tells us almost every day how much he *loves* school. They provide so many fun experiences to mix things up, aerial yoga, the KC zoo, the KC chiefs, and field trips to the bank and grocery stores--and all of that in just the last couple of months. Our son *adores* his teacher, and the environment does feel very much like a family. One that we're happy to be a part of. (I will note that I was not prompted to do a review, nor was I compensated in any way).

It's been four years and time for an update. I'm so happy to share that my opinion of Parkwood has…read moreonly grown since I wrote that first review in 2022. We had a rocky start with our oldest daughter as being born during covid made for a harder transition to daycare. That being said, Parkwood worked with her and by the time she was into their preschool program she was thriving and had a strong community of kids and teachers at her disposal. By the time she "graduated" from pre-k last year we had met most of the staff and were really thrilled with everything about our experience from the extremely low turnover of staff, to the approachability of the program director, to the dedication of the founder who is still very much involved. Our daughter left Parkwood being able to write her name, read a few words, and even knowing some spanish and yoga. Nowadays, our 14 month old goes here and at this point it very much feels like we are part of a bigger community as we know many of the other families that also send their kids here, and we know the staff really well. Parkwood is now located in Overland Park at Indian Heights United Methodist Church and while it's been a while waiting on the new addition - they are working on a standalone building that will serve as their primary care center here, which I think will be wonderful once it's completed. I won't sugarcoat the price as it isn't cheap to send kids here, but it isn't the MOST expensive in town either. I find that Parkwood Day School does a good job of keeping costs as low as they can while also maintaining a safe, clean, and educational environment for all the kids that attend. All this to say, I feel really lucky to have found this school and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a good daycare/preschool to send their little ones to.

They support researched-based developmental learning for children 6 weeks to 6 years old and also have therapists (PT, OT, and speech) on site to conduct regular screenings to determine if your child needs additional developmental support/IEP. As a speech therapist myself, I was pleased to see therapy services are offered because they were not at several other places we toured. They just recently started using an app that logs your child's nap times, feeding times/amount, and potty. The thing my husband and I love is they upload pictures throughout the day and describe what activity your child is working on and what developmental skill it targets (fine motor, gross motor, eye-hand coordination, sitting core strength, language, etc). The staff is friendly, quick to respond, and our daughter is always happy upon drop-off and pick-up. Highly recommend Parkwood.

The biggest challenge is accountability. The school is not held to any specific standards for accountability and even though the board of trustees job is to uphold Waldorf values and strengths, the current group of adults lacks the integrity and they do not do their research. Prairie Moon holds prejudices against teachers and students who are different and/or vulnerable. Prairie Moon allows children to be bullies at the school so long as their parents have money. Prairie Moon is an elitist school which uses adults until they find out that those adults want for the school to be held responsible for their actions. Prairie Moon lacks compassion and understanding and there is unwillingness to accept responsibility and provide support for students who have high behavioural needs, they do not provide sufficient support, training or resources to teachers when they need it. Prairie Moon School does not teach respect or have respect for the privacy of other. As a teacher I was made to be available and accessible to all other faculty at all times of day and night. One teacher even went as far as giving my personal address to families that I worked with when I asked her not to. If you are a worker under the age of 25 you are also treated poorly and used. The administration came to my home on several occasions when I worked there after being asked to stop. I worked hard, I was a good teacher and I spoke up when there were wrong doings at the school. In the end when I had to leave they acted like there was no room for growth within the school. As it is, it is hanging my a thread and it should not be in operation.

Could not be happier. I chose Prairie Moon to help teach our boys emotional intelligence. And they get so much more also. Many of the children there seem to be testing above their grade levels especially compared to public schools.
