Papa's is inside Michoacana. I was looking for a quick snack and decided to try a couple of asada tacos. They ended up not being much to write about. Not that meaty, not that flavorful and the tortillas were whatever. I rate them as average to below average. I'll definitely come for desserts at Michoacana again but will pass on ordering food from here. You're better off going to one of your local roadside stands or trucks for tacos. read more

I wouldn't have found this place if it weren't for Yelp, and what a treat that I did! This hole In the wall has all the good stuff - lengua, birria, Al Pasteur - and they do them all equally well. Came here for a quick bite to eat before heading back up north and it was so delicious I had to get two more tacos for the road. It's located next to a dessert counter so you can easily eat your fill here in this small but open space. The lady who worked at the counter was super friendly and tried her best to communicate with me even though she didn't speak much English and my Spanish is abysmal. I had a really disappointing experience at Papa Tacos recently. I walked in and waited a full 7 minutes before anyone even acknowledged me, despite the staff staring at me from the checkstand. Finally, someone said they'd be with me "in a moment" -- but no one actually came over to help. After standing there for 10 minutes total, I asked if they had taquitos dorados de pollo. The male worker told me they didn't have any, which made no sense to me because they clearly had tortillas and chicken. It's literally just frying what they already have. To make it more confusing, they did have taco dorado de papa available. What's the difference in prep, really? Even the female worker looked confused when he said no -- like she didn't agree with his answer either. That made it clear that the male worker was the main issue here. I ended up just walking out without ordering. If they can't offer basic customer service or logic in their food prep, I don't see myself coming back. read more

Hidden gem inside La Michoacana. I stopped by to get a snack after dropping off recycling in Monterey Park. The food is amazing and delicious. The food was prepared right in front of me by the extremely friendly cashier. I ordered two chicken tacos and one chicken taco dorado. The chicken tacos were amazing and had so much meat and flavor. Combine it with the red and green salsa and it made it even better! Next, the chicken taco dorado was so crispy and delicious. With the salsas, it made it even better. It was nice to get an actual plate verses a disposable one. I really appreciated the personalized service and asked me how I wanted the food as he making it on the grill. That was extremely thoughtful and much appreciated. There is ample seating and chairs. Their menu is not large but it is just the right size. If you are ever at La Michoacana, don't forget to stop here too. You won't be disappointed. Make sure to also get something at La Michoacana too. They have a great variety of options and treats. Considering the fact that I was looking for a new spot to try, I decided to take a risk and check them out. You can't miss them as they're in the same shopping center as a 7-11 and a ramen place. Also, they happen to be next to the 10E. I decided I would ask and see if they could make Carne Asada Fries, which they did make for me but the flavor lacked. Once I opened up the container, it looked pretty bland to me. I was asked, when placing the order, if I wanted sour cream and pico de gallo. I couldn't help but look at the way they made it. First of all, the fries were still chewy, meaning they weren't cooked thoroughly and up to temp as I work in hospitality, so I'm aware of oil temps. I'm not even sure what type of cheese they used as it looked like a mix of white and yellow cheese, but it didn't have the stringy consistency I look for in asada fries. I noticed they didn't add beans to the fries, and I forgot to ask them for Avocado (which I'm sure is an upcharge), however, I'm not convinced that it would've helped the food. Once I took another bite, the carne asada kind of disappeared and it lacked in flavor. I don't think I'd go back again in the near future. Who knows if others can convince me otherwise. Food came out promptly and the server kindly comped our order of tortilla chips. Those were delicious as well. My burrito was masterfully crafted with cheese, beans, rice, asada, and pico de gallo. It could have been rolled a bit tighter; my sister's fell apart so she ended up eating it with a fork and some left over tortillas. The meat is tender and you can taste the hint of pineapple. You can ask for the cilantro and onions on the side. The green salsa is the BEST to go with these tacos, no need for the red! They also have tamales -- I had the chicken with green salsa insides, very GOOD. Drink wise -- they offer this seasonal Champorado drink. The staff said it's similar to a hot chocolate. The drink has some texture -- foamy and a little thick, a hint of cinnamon? Reminds of a malt drink but on the lighter side. Super tasty and different. They might be out. Craving al pastor? Sorry sold out today. Its almost impossible to come here and they have what you want. Which is crazy because they are never all that busy, and they almost always seem surprised that you are there to order food. This area doesn't have any really great Mexican food, papa's can be the go to spot for good Mexican if they can figure out their supply issues. I've been here like 7 times at this point and 5 of those times I've been told they didn't have at least one of the items i tried to order.
